1 on 1 Videos from The Opening
As linked by TomVH's twitter, there are lots of good 1 on 1 drill videos that you can check out featuring many Michigan commits and prospects.
There's a run blocking 1 on 1, pass rush 1 on 1, RB vs LB, and WR vs DB.
The Michigan interest is mainly in the linemen drills, as we had no commits in the WR or RB video, and no targets with the exception of Dwayne Stanford.
In the linemen drills, however, Mario is small but impressive. He blows by Zach Banner at one point, who is about double his size. Aziz Shittu, Danny O'Brien, and Sheldon Day are other DL that were impressive in the drills. Joshua Garnett, Banner, and Erik Magnuson are the main targets on OL.
Just some fun videos to check out of some of the best high school players in the country

Mario looks good...So does O'Brien. Banner almost looks too tall out there and seems to have some trouble staying in front of the smaller guys
Some analysts have noticed that this week as well. They mention that he plays to tall and needs to work on his knee bend and lowering his pad level. They also said that he should start concentrating on football and stop worrying about basketball. He has lots of potential, but it seems like he ranking might slip.
I thought Banner and Garnett looked bad. Both looked tall and stood up really quickly. I didn't think Shittu looks very good either. But then again, I may not know what I am looking at as much as some others.
I agree on Banner especially, and that's a challenge that comes from his height.
That's what this camp is for, though, so hopefully they all make the best of the great coaching they have and get even better
aziz doesn't seem to fit the 5star bill that has been given to them
O'Brien seems to be the most consistently good D-lineman in these drills camp after camp. He wins almost every single matchup.
great. Fast, strong, and much better reaction time than the bigger, "higher" ranked players
At this point after watching this video,
Assuming Kalis has a good weekend, i want Diamond, Obrien (seriously my favorite DT recruit easy) and Pipkins(definetly 1a to Obrien).
Mario looks like a real wolverine...small, but quick, powerful and ferocious.
Banner is a very large human being. Garnett looked like the best OL. O'Brian looks bigger than i thought. Are there recruiters at this event ?
James Ross, Terry Richardson, Mario Ojemudia and Eric Magnuson
Anthony Standifer
I thought that the two best OL in the videos that i have seen are Simmons and Garnett but I do not really know how to break down film.
I thought Garnett got smoked a couple times in the two lineman videos?
Can we expect to see a reshuffling of position rankings following The Opening? I know it's just one camp, but how often do recruiting sites get to see how these guys stack up against one another?
Mario looks like a player who could make an impact early. Magnuson looked a little small out there. Maybe my eyes are bad, but I thought he was bigger than that.
These are kids that haven't even started their Senior season of football. They are all raw specimens that are waiting to be molded into fierce Wolverine Warriors. Lets critique them when they are JRs in college after having learned the Michigan system under Hoke.
They guy I was most impressed with of the Lineman was Jordan Simmons. It was very limited tho so it is hard to judge much at all of this little tape. The guy I was most impressed with for his current rankings was WR Cory Batey. he made a few really nice catches so in my opinion Vanderbilt got a good guy under the radar with him. The DB vs WR matchups really showed me the most where as the RB vs LB drill I found to be impossible to find out anything about the Linebackers especially.
I think the video put a lot of emphasis on the drills that challenged the LBs to cover a guy in space. I would guess they want to make a special point to cover this, because a lot of HS linebackers seem to have this as a deficiency. I could also be completely of the mark. The other drill where they just go at eachother one on one seemed to be not very useful. It didn't show me much about the backs ability since it was only touch and it didn't tell me much about the linebackers ability to take a good angle, because they were just running at eachother basically.
U know what stood out to me the most? They are not wearing pads.
Seemed to me that at the HS level, the D-linemen have a pretty solid advantage over the OL. Getting passed someone seems to require less technique than stopping them, so before fulltime college coaching, the OL just struggle. Could also just be the nature of these drills, the defensive players have no gap responsiblities, and the OL have no one to their sides to help out or limit the space the defensive player has to work with.
That's very true. It's pretty universally accepted and acknowledged by both offensive and defensive line coaches that the defensive linemen have an advantage in drills like those.
Not to mention the fact that the dummy or bag can't step up or side step or anything. I see a lot of reps where the d lineman runs all the way around the o lineman, which is much more difficult to do in a game situation.
