Disagree about a change…

Disagree about a change having to happen. Juwan has shown a lot of promise, especially for someone without head coaching experience. He utilized Beilein players nicely, developed a few,  and brought in some good players via the xfer portal. Those who know better say his scheming has been pretty good.

He certainly has shortcomings. However, winning in college basketball is very hard, especially in the Big. A replacement may not fare as well as Juwan.

Some of his shortcomings may get fixed over time with more experience. His rotations may improve and his teams may become less turnover prone, especially in crucially moments. With Jett in the NBA, Juwan can focus on better rotations and building teams that win.

However, I don't think Juwan will ever become a coach whose teams excel in close games. Beilein knew how to keep games close and in close games he had clever tricks to enhance his teams' chances of winning. In his early years, Beilein won a lot of games he had no business winning. Coaches like Izzo and Beilein  take their teams to a better level just when the pressure is greatest. A lot of that is instinct and cannot be learned IMO. Coaches like Juwan and Harbaugh do not have it.

I think the question is…

I think the question is really whether we want Juwan as our coach or not. I would say, certainly yes. Juwan, although far from perfect and quite inconsistent, has shown plenty of aptitude in bringing in players like Mike Smith and Chaundee, utilizing the talent he inherited, and in developing players.  Winning in college basketball is really hard and really, really hard in the Big Ten. A replacement is unlikely to fare as well. Besides with Jett leaving, he can refocus on building and coaching a team that wins in the Big and getting his rotations right.

Brady Hoke took over a program that was floundering. When Juwan took over, our NCAAM's program was one of the best in the nation. He inherited Zavier, Teske, Livers, Brooks, Austin Davis, and Franz. Those were well-coached national championship caliber players.

Do you have info about how Luke Yaklich is faring at UIC? Would he be a good hire as a defensive coordinator?

The NCAA's intention appears to be to lobby Congress and circumvent antitrust law.

I think a big reason Knowles defense failed was JJ. I remember a play early in 2Q where JJ was about to be hit but managed a completion that turned into a TD. He made a couple of more pretty decent plays. Without a QB who can make such momentum changing plays, I don't think big games can be won in college football today.

I know you mean well but better not bring up Juwan's name in this context.
