The first replay tells the story. Green’s weight is on his left foot, pushing off the court to get out in transition. He is picking up his right foot and feels Sabonis pulling on it. His right foot comes free and keeps moving upwards, and his weight is still fully on his left foot. From that instant, he decides not to jump off his left foot like a normal NBA player does hundreds of times a game. It was a split second decision but he could have avoided Sabonis and chose not to.
I agree on the Kirk perspective, and it was most clear on the Thursday night football broadcasts. He was not very familiar with the NFL but was still calling those games as if he was an expert
On rewatch, it looks like Barrett actually separates Williams from the ball on that swing pass in the 4th. Not at all angry that the refs missed it since the yardage didn't matter and it just ended up running clock, but an even better play as a result.
I agree that it was more fair than expected. I did notice one situation that didn’t end up mattering but was a bit annoying.
On the first OSU drive, the 3rd down conversion to Harrison on the back shoulder fade, it looks like their right tackle and guard jumped because they though we were offside. Maybe they still get the first down if they try again or go for it on 4th, but probably feel better about the 1st half if that gets called.
Does anyone else see the railings as strings in the picture of Ronnie Bell under Known Friends and Trusted Agents? Like he and the defender, mostly the defender, are being pulled around. I saw it that way the first time and can’t unsee it.
My wife’s family is from an hour north of Columbus. I was visiting them for Thanksgiving in 2014, go out to walk the dog in the afternoon after Thanksgiving dinner. I’m walking along the edge of the neighbor’s lawn because they don’t have sidewalks, and some guy comes out of the next house and starts yelling at me. I’m not wearing Michigan gear, and it’s not like my dog is leaving a mess in his yard or anything, but he clearly felt the need to leave his family’s Thanksgiving to get out some aggression. I listened for a few minutes and went on my way, noticing the OSU flag flying outside just door.
Not seriously, but I’d respond to the argument that Illinois should share the regular season title with an argument that Illinois is a better team without Ayo and that he shouldn’t be a POY candidate.
They did have a better record without him, whether Illinois fans understand winning percentage or not...
One of the plays from Braylonfest in the tribute video is the epitome of that: Mallett gets strip sacked for what would be a back breaking fumble, but Hart not only recovers it but breaks tackles on the way to a first down
My wife’s family lives an hour north of Columbus. We visited for Thanksgiving a few years back. I was walking the dog and cut through a yard in the neighborhood, just walked on their grass. Apparently that was enough of an offense for someone to leave their Thanksgiving to come out and yell at me .... Now I just leave dog poop there whenever I visit
Ryan Mundy comes to mind as one of those. I remember a “Yards after Mundy” stat From UFRs and then he went on to win a super bowl as the Steelers starting safety.
Is the title for this post based on the theme song for the kids show, The Octonauts? I’ve had that stuck in my head with the kids home so much so I may be imagining things
The statistic cited is not a statistical anomaly or near impossible to exist. The professor questioning it in the original retweeted thread comes to the conclusion that it is ~25% likely to occur.
He timed the plays but not the huddles, pre-snap motion, running down the play clock, etc...
There is much more time some players are in close proximity that is not captured by just looking at live action. It will be different for each player and position.
I’d be curious to see about a penalty related Rutger. It could be called a Fulmer when you commit more penalty yards than your offense gains, in (dis)honor of the Fulmer cup.
I assume it would be impossible to go back and find stats on offsetting or declined penalties, but MSU would probably have been close this year.
