So I was courtside after the game, and President Ono high fived the players going into the tunnel. He then waited for Juwan to finish his post game interview with Shon Morris, and gave him a big bear hug and had a few words with him. Seemed like a de facto “you’re my coach”.
Band will be in Sec. 8 row 80 on up, so probably not right in front of them. The families of the team and OSU AD tix -Sec. 7 80 on up. These are the OK red shirted fans with a zero on their caps. The nasty ones are scattered throughout the stadium so it’s a crap shoot.
Can they break OSU’s full court press after a made basket? (This still haunts me from last year’s team. Every game had me thinking “We can beat this team” until the second quarter at home against the Bucks).
Maybe not a run-through but at about 10:30 they did a mic check in front of about 2000 fans in the drizzle. For about a minute and a half - dead air, “check”, “ mic check”, more dead air, “check, check”. Brought me back to sixth grade assembly in the Cafetorium.
Event Team member here since 2013. 5 years scanning drunk students at Gate 10 and then 5 ushering in a portal. Scanning tickets is fun for the first 1:45 hrs. The last fifteen minutes before kickoff are not so fun. I’ve been threatened at the gate, spat on, almost thrown up on etc. I’ve even sustained a bloody nose trying to separate two drunk women abut to throw punches. That being said we/ I should act professionally and courteously regardless of the situation. Stop for 10 seconds and find the ETM’s name from their lanyard and google Michigan Stadium Complaints and complain to the AD or to the Facilities & Event management.
Hey Seth, been away from the Blog for a few days … Words and empathy are not my forte but hoping for the best. Food … my wife makes the best chocolate, cherry, oatmeal cookies. Franz Wagner said it was one of the best cookies ever. I’m up by north campus everyday and go by the hospital on the way home or could stop by your cousin’s house (she hugs me at basketball now).

Source: we were told this at the Event Team summer training. They had no info on beer sales ( still on the Guv’s desk, unsigned). Thoughts among us ushers was no beer this year at football, maybe secure license and do a test run at a cupcake basketball/ hockey game.
I work 80-90 UM athletic events a year so have innumerable encounters with coaches, athletes, alumni, staff. We usually have to “be cool” …no photos, autographs, etc but now and then your job has you right there with a future pro athlete.
So one fairly innocuous story - BBQ at the Big House conncluded with current players and recruits up in the Jack Roth suites eating catered BBQ. At the end there was lots of food for the taking (which is not normal). So there us staffers were elbow to elbow with football players a few days before fall camp opened, with to-go containers trying to scrounge a wonderful dinner. Chris Evans had two styrofoam containers full of every last corn bread muffin. I said “ C’mon man, not a single one for me”. He begrudgingly gave me one saying, “ They’re real good”.
I know y’all be joshing but this banner means Bev is here as long as she wants, regardless of how many burgers she eats, and Crisler has two tunnels to separate those rowdy 5’2” athletes.
yes culture is great but - UM men’s team is totally lacking in sprinters. Distance - loaded, field events we’re ok , the hurdler is aiming for NCAA Champion. Didn’t have one runner in 60 m final. Maybe injuries?
Last year I was in the tunnel with both Izzo and Tucker after we beat MSU at Crisler. (remember 2 tunnels since the renovation). Tucker had courtside seats right by the broadcast table. ( how he got these I don’t know). Michigan wins in a way that even ‘lil Tom didn’t go ballistic during the game. Tucker rushed into the tunnel and shook each players hand when they would rather have punched a hole in a wall … they were quite pissed and swearing profusely. Most of their expressions seemed to say “ Who is this douche?”.
Unfamiliar with the mighty Mastodons? Co-favorites to win the Horizon League. Could be playing in the round of 64 in March, so maybe not a total tomato can? Gooo Prehistoric Beasts!
Late to see this so OP might not see it …but, at Saturday’s game the Asst. Usher Supervisor told us portal leaders that PSU game time was noon. He had just come from the meeting run by the stadium operations manager. I would expect a public announcement soon.
Since the demise of WD's apparel threads I guess I'll post this here. Found these at Kiwanis in A2. I usually can't fathom paying full price for basically novelty shoes but $10, fit perfectly, barely worn.

Maybe related… every Event Team Member (usher, ticket scanner, response team, tower staffers, etc) received an extra $50 for last years OSU game. Now you may say “ehh, 50 bucks so what!” but multiply by 600 (700?) workers and we’re talking real money. Thanks Jim? Warde? some anonymous donor?
My real job is busy, hired one new worker and a part timer so pretty much fully staffed. But I’d like to talk about my side hustle. Started this about 9 years ago. Work a few nights during the week and a few weekend spots. Pay was low but it was fun and your coworkers are varied and cool. Basically it shut down during the first 11 months of Covid except for a skeleton crew with seniority. Then this last fall it started up again with plenty of seasoned veterans choosing to sit out for awhile or just give it up. Short staffed ...not enough new hires ... this is a big operation missing hundreds. So holiday season rolls around and our fine bosses gave each of us about 166% bonus of our weekly wage!! This is for more than 600 employees!! Thanks Warde and Jim!!
Sure this is good advice …. but Liberty is all tore up for nigh on three months. (live one house off of Liberty). You can turn on Soule and get near Eberwhite Elem ( my kids school).

Special Teams Bits - at the open Practice on Saturday they ran plays from inside their own 5 yard line which resulted in bringing in the punt team. Robbins (I think) punted the ball from the endzone over the head of the returner on the opposite 45 yd line. it rolled down to about the 10. 80 plus yards net. The kicker also impressed. On two field goal makes of about 30 and 35 yds., both went over the net and into the stands. This was in 90 degree heat without a breeze. One last thing, Harbaugh was in all blue! No khakis! My guess would be stylish Lululemon slacks. And yes, he looked fit. One more last last thing thing, our onside kick drills were darn good. Two out of four dribbled about 8 yds then took a huge bounce up in the air landing about 12 yds downfield.
Just to throw a new package in your toolbox - at the VIP open practice on Saturday they had Donovan Edwards split wide (WIDE{widest}) with an empty backfield. Down and out for 7 yds. This was their favorite route all afternoon 7 yds out or crossing. One long completion all day JJ to Henning.
PSA: the roads will not be back to normal. They just reduced Main st. to one lane in each direction from Stadium to Downtown. Last Saturday at 11am : backup from Pauline to almost Madison. It hampers traffic by pioneer also because it turns into right turn only at AAGO. Liberty is also shut down! Aaargh. Safer streets initiative.
Kefir, frozen blueberries, limeade, and vodka smoothie. Yum! I get some Michigan Football at noon tomorrow in the sweltering Stadium. VIP open practice. I’ll try to jot down OL and DL starters and maybe Lb’s and Db’s. If I take pics I’ll probably lose my ushering job (semi serious).

My intent was to educate and help out with this new form of ticketing. Soon all tickets will be digital - there’s no turning back. As far as internal discussions…there are approximately 800 Event Team Members and we are encouraged to not be negative or worse on social media. So if they send out an email to all of us saying we need to fill positions at the high school football games, fall welcome day, or a possible open practice, they must know people will talk. I probably should have said that the practice is probably tentative. Some things on the schedule don’t come to fruition. I sent most of this info to Seth and he’s so busy he told me to post and anonymity will be maintained.

Edit: Why was I up close and personal? The first 50 students got to sit on the field on benches and I was among them. Guy next to me had a fresh HTTV so we knew the updated lineup. Not all things under Brandon/Hoke were anti student/fan.
UM Event Team Member here with my two cents re Michigan Stadium. We had our football meeting last weekend and there was no mention of masks, vax status, negative tests regarding fans. My thought was anything they tell us might change in a day or two. What I can tell you is as part time U of M employees we have to show proof of vaccination before 8/30 in order to be scheduled for any games.
Art Briles was the keynote speaker at the 2016 "The Greatest Coaching Clinic Of All-Time" in Crisler Arena. One of the most boring presentations ever. He had a powerpoint presentation with all his coaching stops and his winning records that went on for 30 minutes with nary a sentence on how to coach. Obviously Coach Harbaugh thought he was the bees knees.
True story - I sang with the MMB, Alumni Band, and members of the NY Phil homecoming 2015(?)! So yes I suppose I posed and sang. ( not the Victors but Beethoven’s 9th - Freude!)
