Yeah hopefully the expansion…

Yeah hopefully the expansion solves it. In general, I believe college football needs to figure out how to reward teams that challenge themselves. Current model of incentivizing weak opponents to “goal seek” a record is not really fun to watch (in my opinion). I used to be a huge CF fan but have enjoyed NFL games more recently due to every game being competitive (don’t see 30+ point wins every week by half the teams for half the season) .

Why can’t we play a decent…

Why can’t we play a decent to good team? This isn’t fun to watch

Great write up!! Love the hockey content

Just a crappy play call…

Just a crappy play call blitzing a corner who is covering their best player, below the numbers, 20 yards away from the QB.... Even if the safety gets over top, why wouldn't the D end closest to the blitzing corner flare out to take away the flat since the linebacker is curl first and then flat and most QBs are taught to throw into the blitz?

You would think though that…

You would think though that Warde and him have a good enough relationship where they can sit down and Jim can say privately "I have won the big 10 two years in a row and need top tier Big10 market based compensation if you want me to stay", rather than play this out publicly and and harm the future of the program (potentially lose recruits/current players to transfer).

Thinking the same thing…

Thinking the same thing. Already 6'4 and 220. Add 20 or so more pounds and could be a nice complement as an athletic TE .

Challenge when looking at…

Challenge when looking at totals is you miss the details with specific opponents. Sure the totals are close but the stars "show up" in the talented opponent games. Set aside Georgia and look at our totals (and Hutch) in 2021 against OSU, PSU and MSU and then compare with our 2022 sack totals against Illinois, PSU and OSU...

If we play a elite pocket passing QB (Stetson Bennet) who can actually move off a first read, can we get home in time?

This is a great game for our offense for the long term. Think they are going to force us to win by passing the ball.

Feel like playing Maryland right before OSU could expose some passing deficiencies with not enough time to correct...

Really missing Roman Wilson……

Really missing Roman Wilson… no threats to anything deep…

Agree we need to involve him…

Agree we need to involve him more. I like Bell but Roman Wilson has scored on almost 50% of his touches. Even from the offensive UFR, you can see the DBs giving him Tyreek Hill space off the line of scrimmage. Future DBs should be tossing and turning all night knowing he is coming and they don't have the speed to keep up...

Heading to play a corn fed…

Heading to play a corn fed team that rolls out extra tight ends and full backs is not the best time for our linebackers to decide to be hesitant.....LOL

So we're going to pay 4 and…

So we're going to pay 4 and 3 star players double what Ohio State pays 5 and 4 star players? If a legal definition is open to broad interpretation with no possibility of recourse, why would we chose the stricter interpretation?

What? This take is kinda…

What? This take is kinda delusional…

Let’s frame this in (perhaps) a more simple way. What if a girl friend left someone to “test the market” and then calls to inform she is coming home.. Are we supposed to be “elated”? Especially when said girl friend didn’t put out in 6 out of 7 years of the relationship… LOL

Our positive momentum from…

Our positive momentum from beating OSU, winning B10 and achieving the CFP is now gone with Harbaugh testing the NFL market for weeks. This was the worst case scenario for us to ever turn the tide and recruit elite talent in the 2023+ classes... UGH!  Why cant we have nice things.

Can he shoot the 3 or defend…

So next year, do we play…

So next year, do we play McNamara and have a false sense of regular season accomplishment or do we ride with McCarthy and try to achieve something more? What's MgoBlog consensus???

Um, outside of Cass Tech and…

Um, outside of Cass Tech and King, Belleville is probably the most talent producing school in the state. My problem is why did we even offer the kid at that time? His only other offers were Eastern Illinois and Marshal… This seems like an offer that could of waited until the last minute… not the other way around.

Agree with your post and I…

I think the psych part of coaching and managing young athletes is fascinating. I think the start of the OSU game will be critical. If we get some stops on defense and go through the first quarter or two tied or with the lead, I think that significantly erases some of the doubt in the back of their minds. But if OSU scores at ease on the first drive.....

Agree that we could of used…

Agree that we could of used Chris Evans and DPJ better but Chris Evans has 4 catches and 18! total yards in his nfl career... Lol not like he turned into Alvin Kamara after going pro..

Yeah but our nickel is a…

Yeah but our nickel is a 5star and future first round draft pick vs a nobody so basically “let the stallion run” and live with the results. Agree the two high does not give run support but my argument is against good run defenses, MSU hasn’t proven they can actually run the ball so make them prove it and then spin a safety down if we can’t stop it, but don’t lead with that scheme. Our weakest link on defense are corners and their top 2 out of 3 players are outside wideouts so scheme around that.

Not sure I agree with your…

Not sure I agree with your gameplan. I don't think a cover 3 or any form of single high where one safety would sit and help Dax hill on the slot guy makes sense. Essentially let Dax play his man one on one and forget about Dax. Keep both the free and strong safety back high and play over top. Then sprinkle in the occasional cover 2 and let the corner jump an intermediate out route if they keep dinking and dunking it.

I'm not confident their offensive line will be able to run against our front. Michigan state averaged 2.4 yds per rush on 30 attempts against Nebraska. As we know, Nebraska's defense is solid and ours is even better. (Interestingly, Michigan's offense averaged nearly 5 yds a carry on 42 attempts)

I like the perspective…

I like the perspective njvictor but a key question I have is if we line up Cade against OSU/Bama/Georgia, and those teams stack the box against our run and dare a downfield throw, can Cade honestly deliver? Can he make the pull read and run the ball? Can he escape pressure, buy time and punish the back end? I honestly don't think so... So then are we just deferring the inevitable truth for some sense of false accomplishment?

I'd also argue that with our solid defense to bail us out it might have been worth having a volatile offense through these first 7 games against crummy teams and develop JJ into a quarterback that can beat those top 5 teams.

Appreciate the post and…

Appreciate the post and future work but not buying it.

Barely beating Rutgers with their FPI rating of ~40 (which is based off of wins against Temple, Syracuse and Delaware) is not where we want this program to be in Yr. 7....Justifying shitty play to substantiate future projections has been a consistent in Harbaughs tenure.. Just my own opinion though

Stroud is really inaccurate…

Stroud is really inaccurate. Stack the box to take away the run game, cede the screen / quick throw game and get after him on the deep throws and I think you are ok….

Just missed another extra…

Just missed another extra point… great leg but just couldn’t figure out the accuracy! Rockford kid too!

He has shown he has what it…

He has shown he has what it takes against Rutgers… against everyone else he was awful. The point of recruiting 5 star game changing players is to let them play… Kirby Smart might now recognize that…

Projection: The best is yet…

Projection: The best is yet to come. He’s going to redshirt, work out a lot, bring it, work out, grow a bit more, work out, keep working out, fill out some, post on the MGoBoard, develop a new kind of protein shake, work out more, and maybe down the road when Michigan is desperate for DTs again they’ll have a 290-pound team guy with violent hands and the 3-star mafia will whine that he’s not Walter Nolen while UFR quietly appreciates his positive contributions. Then he’ll graduate and put together a group of wealthy alumni to funnel money to Michigan recruits.

Haha!! Best conclusion yet. On the bright side, if he become a stud, I can add Cannoli to the food spread during Michigan football games..

Awesome article. Thanks for writing this. After watching the Stanley cup playoffs, I really came to appreciate the game and want to learn more. If anyone knows other good website to read and learn, I’d greatly appreciate it!
