So...
He is pass game coordinator for offense and position coach on defense? Am I reading this correctly?
Seems an odd combination.
His second title at Kentucky was passing game defense coordinator. You can safely assume he will assume the same responsibilities at Michigan.
I see - I wasn't aware there was a "pass game coordinator" position on a defensive coaching staff, per se.
I would guess that his in-practice duties will be to coach the Cornerbacks and from a strategy standpoint he comes up with the coverages for the entire secondary in the defensive gameplan.
Word on the street is that he also specializes in two minute offense strategy.
I hadn't heard of the title either (and think it makes even less sense to separate coordinator responsibilities on defense), but I suppose it makes sense from a staffing, promotion, and recruitment perspective.
Linguist had a similar role. He was the Co-Defensive coordinator and CB coach, but was responsible for the entire secondary ("passing game" defense). So, Clinkscale will be responsible for the back half of the defense, while McDonald will be responsible for the front half. The only difference is that Clinkscale won't be helping with the coordinating duties, like Linguist was.....at least not until the second year.

My same exact thoughts. And I immediately also thought how cool it would be if he created a defensive scheme to neutralize his offensive passing game strategies during a practice session. His genius defensive mind could then openly mock the offensive side of his brain, or vice versa.
Chance to be promoted to HC in year three.
Two chances: a slim chance and a fat chance!?
Three-year deal with opportunity to be promoted to co-DC in year two, for those that don't want to click through.
Good hire. This program needs guys with real recruiting chops.
Also what redwings said just above me
Thanks for the assist. I was in a rush to post this on my phone lol

Very good to see. I liked that video of him posted a few days ago, working with young men at Kentucky. Great hire!
Our defense is actually better now. Steve has a better track record than Maurice.
Maurice who??
The guy who speaks on the pompatus of love. Duh.
Google that one, youngin's

Probably a better hire then Mo so an upgrade. Now where are all the people that were jumping off a cliff when Mo left?
Sky not quite as far down as we may have thought.
The sky is... rising???
The ceiling is the roof
The ceiling is the roof
Raise the roof!!!
The ceiling is the ROOF Roof roof
Nevermore.
Wow!!! I thought he turned us down twice already.
Yeah, I thought the same. In the Sam Webb article he just posted about the hire he stated that Clinkscale was actually never offered the job just spoke with JH two different times
It's a great hire. Am also glad this replacement process do not not take that long. A little good news will go a long way for this football program.
This is good news. Very good news. And it's encouraging that a coach as highly regarded as Clinkscale would join our staff right now.
Good for Harbaugh.
What do you mean by "right now"?
Along the lines of "it's great that you're willing to ride shotgun in my truck... right now."
That's a big hire, especially considering the calendar.
Kudos to Harbaugh for being able to finally lure Clinkscale out of Kentucky.
wow, this is terrific news considering the time of year. People bag on JH, but he has managed to bring in excellent candidates throughout his tenure. Really hoping the new focus on young coaches that are solid recruiters pays off.
The trick is getting them to gel. Talented leaders don't necessarily make for a talented and cohesive leadership team, which is equally if not more important.
But I do really like the staff makeover.
How dare they try to fight my BPONE!
Dammit, now I have hope.
I'm ready to be hurt again
Lemons = Lemonade. Good job by Harbaugh.
posbang?
I'm shocked we landed him and he didn't use this as a chance to squeeze a raise out of Kentucky. Good hire for the program.
Yet.

From what I've read, mostly on MGoBlog, this looks like a solid hire. Maybe a great one.
hah - this is quite the echo chamber...I almost posted how happy this makes me, but realized that if not for this blog, I literally would not know this man existed.
