SB Nation: Key quotes from Jim Harbaugh's pre-MSU Press Conference:  Full link

Noteworthy points to highlight I thought were:

  • Jimmy Rolder will redshirt this year but coaches plan to get him in 4 games still.
  • Mullings to be back "soon"
  • Team will be practicing on grass this week in preparation for MSU's grass field
  • Regarding the tunnel incident last year with MSU, Harbaugh said, “That seems like a long time ago. I like what J.J. said — it’s a goldfish mentality. It’s onward.”

I think that's smart and classy move from JJ and Harbaugh to try and move on from the tunnel incident.  Not to take the moral high ground, but I am not sure MSU would do the same were the shoe on the other foot.

Also how do they manage to practice on grass this week? Do any of the practice fields have grass? Lacrosse or soccer fields?

Funny point about how MSU scores the opening TD, even when huge dogs.

2016 opening drive 7-0 ended up being 32-23 UM win

2019 opening drive 7-0 ended up being 44-10 UM win

2022 early drive (not 1st drive) TD to Keon "FSU" Coleman 7-3 ended up 29-7 UM win

Even in 49-3 2002 beatdown that led to Bobby Williams "I don't know (if I've lost the team)" started with MSU FG 3-0 lead

I was a FR in MMB in 1981 at MSU and we fell behind 7-0 early only to win 38-20

I'm glad to hear about the grass emphasis.  Michigan does not traditionally play very well on grass and they will need to do it over the next few weeks at MSU and PSU.

A slight modification, if I may, from something Theodore Roosevelt once said.

"Speak softly and bring in a team with a tremendous S&C program, culture, and talent.   Oh, don't forget Paul Bunyan - and, that "big stick" may - in fact be Paul's ax."

Behind closed doors, I'd expect Jim is preparing the team mentally for the unique circumstances around this game. And our heavy senior leadership is already more than aware of what this means: it's the State Championship. Don't take anything lightly - go out there and play our game until the whistle blows. Don't play dirty, but always have each other's backs. Keep your head on a swivel, be prepared for late contact (pull & twist). But we will eventually grind them to a fine pulp - so just stay at it.

And no matter what - stick together on the field, do not enter their tunnel to the locker room unless you are in a group.

I think Sparty is more likely to take off the shoe and try to use it as a weapon. Let's hope we end the game this week without any new injuries from their dirty play.
