There’s no rule against hiring a parent or coach of a recruit to an on-field coaching position. Which is why we were able to hire Bellamy from West Bloomfield and still bring in Edwards and continue recruiting Tatum in the 2022 class.

The rule only applies to non-coaching roles. So you can’t hire a relative or coach to an analyst position for example.

I read an article about a year ago that stated that the recruiting powerhouses like Bama, Georgia, OSU, and Clemson usually have 2 to 3 decommitments every year.  Opposing coaches point out to look how stacked their lineups are and that the kid could ride the bench for awhile. They just go out and get another blue chipper.  In this case the kid wants to play for his father and with his brothers - understandable

So you’re saying that a top 50 recruit would rather go to IU than Michigan?  I thought you were trying to get us all to stay “optimistic”.  OSU losing a high level recruit because their roster is so stacked to a team who is also in the big ten east is not ideal.

edit: Playing with your brothers and getting coached by your dad probably his motivation.  Still not sure why we should be happy.

I’m still not sure why we should be happy as the poster suggests.  This recruit leaving OSU really doesn’t hurt them and it probably helps Indiana, who is in our division and who we happened to lose to last year.  I guess I’m just not seeing the silver lining in this one.

The silver lining simply being that a top 50 recruit, as you said, didn't leave OSU to go to IU instead of Michigan.  There was a very particular reason he decommitted and it was solely because of his dad.  The way you posed it made it seem like IU had jumped us and was pulling recruits away from OSU and that made them somehow better than Michigan.  And no, it won't hurt OSU but that isn't something we should be hinging our hopes on as the means to beat OSU on the field

I mean, the chance to play on a team where his dad is on staff and possibly the chance to play on the team with both of his brothers as well? Seems compelling enough to me. In any case, I am sure Ohio State is able to take such setbacks in stride at this juncture.

McCullough's younger brother Daeh, a defensive back who will be a junior at Bloomington South high school this fall, committed to the Hoosiers two weeks ago. And then on Saturday, oldest brother, Deland II, announced he was transferring from Miami of Ohio to Indiana.

Unfortunately this probably won't last long. Next week OSU will flip both of his brothers and hire his father as an assistant coach.

I guess this is good news. Losing one guy who wants to play with his brothers and dad, doesn’t really mean much though. Now they only have two committed LB’s ranked in the top 100.
From what I just read, he was sort of the recruiting leader for the OSU class. Maybe it will have create some waves with other commits. Doubtful though. One guy doesn’t really hurt their class and doesn’t really help IU that much either, but if he can convince a few other recruits to come along, then it could be something significant.

Losing a guy with a .9784 rating isn't some sort of shrug emoji type thing, even for OSU.

This kid would have been THE top or top 3 recruit that we've signed.  To put it in context.....top 100 Linebacker (Junior Colson), from our last class, had a .9598 rating.

Losing this kid is a big deal, for them....regardless of what the reason was.

Any kind of "set back" to them signing a ridiculous class is good for Michigan.  Does it move the needle a whole lot?  Not really, but it's still good news....no matter what the reason was.

I just see this as fools gold.  OSU will just get another 4 / 5 star recruit.  It's a given that we have an uphill battle against them no matter who they bring in. They'll have a top 3 or 4 recruiting class at the very least when all is said and done

The real problem - this just makes Indiana stronger - we don't need this.  It's a given that OSU and PSU are tough assignments - now Indiana getting stronger. We don't need this

Indiana's success, last year, had more to do with the circumstances than anything else.  They were a very experienced team, with most of the other teams not being experienced....especially Michigan.  Experienced teams logically have an advantage over inexperienced teams when Spring Practice is canceled and fall practice is limited.

Will he make them suddenly impossible to beat?  No.

Will he help make them a tougher out for Michigan?  Sure, but also for Penn State....and the rest of the East.  The conference division coming down to just the head to heads in the OSU and Penn state games isn't exactly ideal, either.  Those other teams slipping up against Indiana can help us, as well....as long as we take care of business, ourselves.
