Kansas State wide receiver Hunter Rison has been suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules, the school announced Saturday. The redshirt sophomore was arrested and charged with domestic battery Friday afternoon, according to the Manhattan Mercury

"Our program will be one that is built on hard work and integrity and doing things the right way," coach Chris Klieman said. "We have extremely high expectations for our players on and off the field."

According to the report, Rison was arrested on one count of domestic battery/knowing or reckless bodily to family/person in dating relationship and released on $1,000 bond.

“His girlfriend, Right-Eye Martinez, promised to get revenge in spectacular fashion. Sadly, she died in a biking accident in Paraguay before she could...”

I really am not a fan of this post. If each of us had our sins out there on public display, it would be a very painful sight. To be sure, there is zero excuse for domestic violence and assault. My issue is less the calling out of assault, and more the assumption that because he went to MSU, by extension, MSU is bad. Michigan itself has numerous criminal elements in it's past . . . Dr. H. H. Holmes was one of the nation's first known serial killers, diabolically killing 27 in macabre house designed just to do this, during the 1893 World's Fair. Richard Loeb was a brilliant young man, graduating from Michigan at the age of 17. He also thought of himself as a Nietzchen "ubermensch," and killed his cousin Bobby Franks just for the thrill of it. Leopold and Loeb were castigated as lovers, as Jews, as atheists, and Loeb, as a Michigan grad. The fact that they were Jewish, atheist, and homosexual is just as irrelevant as the fact that Loeb went to UM. And yet, there were always be people who smear others just because they are part of some subgroup they dislike. Ted Kacynski, aka the unabomber, received a masters and doctorate from Michigan. And these three are just some of the most notorious. If you want to go to athletic ranks, there are plenty of Michigan grads who made bad, bad choices, criminal choices in some cases. Again, there is no excuse for Rison's actions. But don't try to use this to smear all of MSU, or suggest that this is somehow emblematic of MSU. It isn't.

the difference is you cite a random handful of people that had something to do with U of M in, literally, centuries past.   there is no systemic link or weakness that ties them to michigan.  they were 3 out of hundreds of thousands, maybe millions (?), that had a connection to the school in the last 125 years.

the MSU issue has to do with a concentrated number of years (the last 25) and a huge number of incidents - hundreds of sexual assaults and many other crimes, by dozens of bad actors, and all centered around one idol they are serving, to wit: trying to compete with big brother in athletics.  they are tied to exactly 3 programs, and a number of folks in power that let it all go, or worse, suppressed mention of it.  i guess i see that as the idol that sparty is serving and the idol which is the common thread for all of their covered up sins.  it may not be as bad as too much stretching, but its bad. (attempted humor).

You left out Ann Coulter and Madonna as shitty alum too.

Additionally, don't forget why Clarence Cook Little  had his name removed from a building.

The point -- there isn't one.  Every organization has its issues.  Part of the Michigan difference is though we police our own.

because he went to MSU, by extension, MSU is bad.

Well, that's the way it is.  Sometimes stereotypes are stereotypes for damn good reasons.

Michigan has learned from its lessons

Staee instead doubles down on a culture of enabling those who assault and treat women like garbage.

It's pretty obvious that he learned it was ok to abuse women while at state as an athlete. That's a whole lot different than your cited examples.

Also, how is Madonna a bad person? I don't buy coulter's logic but believe it or not there are a lot of much more Republican leaning Michigan grads on wall street (or managing partners who used to be in NYC).

If you don't believe our experiences help define us and that there are decent people and reasons to hold views on the opposite side of the isle, you are part if the problem.

I lean right.  My politics has nothing to do with it.

I just don't think Coulter is a good representative of... well... anything (let alone Michigan).  Look into her antics while she was in law school.  She did shit just to piss people off in mock trial (no other reason)... and then took that boorish behavior in front of the cameras and in books.

+1 for the Leopold and Loeb, information... hadn't heard of it, looked it up.

Yes, I get you basic premise and agree!

But in this case, with so much **** that goes on and is covered up at MSU, forgive those that have a knee jerk reaction towards cynicism regarding anything remotely related to MSU now a days.

This is what happens when your culture enables abuse. Players feel entitled, that the rules don't apply to them, and that coach will cover it up. That's on the players, the coaches, the local police department and prosecutors, as well as the AD, university staff and leadership.

Really sad when they have this sick culture as a winning means everything, but they are still little brother who can't win.
