M Lacrosse @ Marquette 1PM (w/ Stream)

Men's lacrosse wraps up a 4 game road swing when they take on the Marquette Golden Eagles at 1PM today. Stream is here - https://gomarquette.com/watch/?Live=57&type=Live (hope it works - I never seem to find the correct links).

Michigan is coming off a loss to a powerful Yale team and at 3-2 they find themselves approaching must-win territory. An early season OT loss to Drexel is really making things difficult, especially with Notre Dame coming to town on Tuesday and the Big Ten portion of the schedule looking very tough.

Marquette, usually a dangerous team that can play with anybody, is in a similar boat. They stand at 3-3 and need to win games to keep their head above water if they want to make the postseason tournaments.  They beat Robert Morris earlier this week but also posted not-so-great Ls to Detroit Mercy and Cleveland State this season.

If Michigan can start hot like they usually do and take care of the ball they can win this game. Let's take care of business - GO BLUE!!!

From MGoBlue.com:

U-M is a program-best 9-0 and in the midst of a nation-best 11-game win streak that goes back to its final two games of the 2018 season. In the Wolverines' final game last year, they defeated then-No. 16 Penn State, 12-11; it was Michigan's first win against a ranked opponent in program history. Since that game, the Wolverines have faced -- and defeated -- four ranked opponents.

I'm also excited because it should be over by the time the basketball game comes on. It will be a back-to-back Michigan sports viewing experience.

Need to erase all those losses Michigan teams suffered last weekend. Hoping Michigan goes undefeated this weekend!

This video feed is pretty awful - can't see anything from this angle. But, this announcer is great - surprised he's working streamed regular season lacrosse games.

I just got back and turned it on - what's up with the faceoffs ? Why are Goonan and DiCaprio taking faceoffs now? That doesn't seem good.

Seems like Marquette has been controlling the game. Michigan better make a run soon or they're in trouble.

Michigan loses 16-13, but it really wasn't that close. Marq controlled the game from the start and had a comfortable 5 goal lead for most of it, at one point stretching it to 7. Michigan couldn't get close enough to actually threaten. Looked like Michigan was missing Noseworthy , their best scorer, as well as their faceoff guys to injury. That certainly didn't help. The offense couldn't generate enough goals or good possessions to take the burden off the defense.

Even with Heidt who has been outstanding  this year, Michigan is still ceding a ton of goals. These are mostly in transition - off faceoffs or clears or on fast breaks and secondary breaks off their own turnovers. And those are shots that Heidt can't do anything about (I think the Oosterbahn-like nature of that venue today probably cost him a goal or two). They'll have to clean that up quick - Michigan plays Notre Dame on Tuesday on State Street (go watch it! although I thinks at like 3 or 4 in the afternoon).

I have to hand it to Marquette though - they played hard and had a good crowd. They should be able to beat some teams this year.

I had to turn it off before the half.  It was like we didn't have a single FOGO dressed for the game and weren't even trying to win faceoffs.  I mean it's not like we would have lost more if we tried to win a draw.  Maybe we literally had nobody.

What the women are doing is truly incredible.   Hats off to them.  They might make the tournament.
