Joel Klatt believes football will happen WITH fans

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on May 6th, 2020 at 7:31 PM

The more conversations I have the more I believe that we will have a CFB season...decision makers are planning and adapting to the new reality...Most, if not all, plans involve fans in some capacity...fact remains, athletes can be cared for much better on campus than at home

We will see.  The CFB Athletic Directors may want fans, but ultimately the decision will be made by the various state Governors.

It would be bizarre if it was a patchwork: Iowa (for instance) allows 30K fans, Nebraska allows 10K, Wisconsin allows 5K, Rutgers allows none ............... oh wait.

Cool, what about the students?

Will they be cared for as much as the athletes will at these universities. NO.

The tone deafness in some of these national talking heads 'hot takes' is painful.

How about we just wait it out and see where we are in 3 months?

completely agree.

this idea that a public university might say that students are not safe on campus, but football players are (or, worse, that their safety doesn't matter)?  because rah rah, cheer for old state u?  no way.  it's not happening.

If my “implication detector” is correct, I sense that you feel that the opinions expressed by those with “vested interests” in the subject matter at hand should best be taken with a large grain of salt, and dare I say, suspicion?  Does this attitude apply only to sportscasters, or would you include others in that circumspect light?  What about Politicians, CEO’s, or defense attorneys?  Of course they’re words are met with suspicion, right?

What about, say, oh I don’t know ... public health officials and billionaire “philanthropists” with long established ties to what I’ll term, “Big Pharma” and the “Medical Establishment” for brevity sake?

Do their “vested interests” inspire outrage, or even a serious comment in relation to this whole fiasco?  No, no, of course not because that’s just crazy “conspiracy theory”, right?  They just really want to save everyone’s life and protect them because they just care so much, and want nothing in return — not money, not power.  No, they’re pure of heart.  They care so very much, and despite the heart ache they felt, they just had to ruin the economy to save all of you feeble cunts.  Now, now, quit your whining ... don’t you dare say you need a job, or a functional school system, or a fucking haircut, because having those, in the “New Normal”, will make PEOLE DIE ... at least until everyone (is forced?) buys their vaccine.

Thank Jeebus that they’re here to help protect us — by mandating we buy their patented, hastily concocted, poorly tested, product (the liability for which has been legislated away) — from that evil bastard Klatt!  Fuck that guy!  He just wants CFB so he can enrich himself with complete and utter disregard for how many people he kills with his dangerous rhetoric and predictions.  Football in the fall?!  How dare you, Joel, you evil murdering fuck!

Fans or no, I'll be happy just as long as we have football.

I'm actually quite excited for the PGA tour to start back up in a month with no fans. Should be interesting to see how the players fare without the fans finding their balls for them.

I have my doubts that the NCAA will have a season. Several campuses will remain closed this fall.

But big money could mean some kind of season with partial or empty stadiums?

i'm SO not going to wade into whether fan-attended football should or should not take place, and when.  i have no idea.

what i WILL say is that joel klatt is a freaking idiot.  what he "believes" is as important as what a hot dog vendor "believes."  hell, it's less important - unlike joel klatt, whose "service" is to flap his stupid lips, the hot dog vendor actually provides an invaluable service by providing me with manna from heaven.

Just remember, we live in an era where EVERY idiot has a forum (present company decidedly not excluded.)  We are still probably two months removed from decisions being made as to whether the campuses will even be open for business. While it’s likely that Joel Klatt has sources to support his assertions, the information upon which the actual decision makers are going to make those decisions is subject to dramatic change between now and whenever a decision actually does get made.  His opinion is about a valuable as those which I can extract from my two Portuguese Water Dogs.

Wouldn’t be all bad if we had to play in empty stadiums.

Might make having to go get a beating in Columbus that much easier if no one is on hand to watch it happen.

I don't know if there will be a season but I can't imagine it happening with fans in the stands, unless it's postponed to the spring of 2021.  Events with big crowds are going to be the last thing to return.

This tells me a trend of more optimism. I wonder what Herbstreit will say as he was one of first doom sayers saying no CFB.

COVID-19 is a virus and won't be going away for a few years or more. Remember the Swine Flu of 2009-10. More doctors are speaking out about the overreaction and restrictions made from this particular virus. (WJR radio, Deleted You Tube video, Fox News, other web sites, etc)

The curve was flattened and for the reason of not overwhelming the hospital system. It did. Reopening will assure a second wave but how can it be more lethal than the initial wave? More medical pundit are saying no.

Klatt is right: Let the games begin!
