A link would be nice, or a mention of his type of exit—I’m guessing NFL?

He has as much of a chance of being a UDFA as he does being drafted.
December 29th, 2020 at 4:07 PM ^
Khalel Mullings and Nikhai Hill-Green, come on down, unless something changes. Maybe they move Velazquez, Solomon, or Apache inside depending on DC?
Good luck Cam, stay healthy.
December 29th, 2020 at 4:57 PM ^
I hope Apache’s career works out, for his name alone
December 29th, 2020 at 5:15 PM ^
Nothing to worry about here. We have a stable of stud LB to take his place.
December 29th, 2020 at 5:52 PM ^
Sarcasm? We have zero proven LBs for next year. Mostly just guys who couldn't get on the field over Shibley.
December 29th, 2020 at 6:15 PM ^
Complete and utter sarcasm. We had to play a walk on because our talent is so thin.
December 29th, 2020 at 7:46 PM ^
Not sure why you were down voted here, you spoke truth... Reasons don't really matter - they could not get on the field before a 5th year walk-on, so they are unproven. Whoever negged is living in some kind of fantasy land...
December 30th, 2020 at 1:13 AM ^
I really think a lot of people are now irrationally optimistic about the program simply because Harbaugh didn't lose to OSU this year and now Michigan hasn't lost a game in a month or so. This board was so much more pessimistic at this time last year, despite having a much better season.
December 29th, 2020 at 4:08 PM ^
Well that is concerning for our defense but good luck to Cam. He was electric in 2019.
December 29th, 2020 at 4:52 PM ^
The defense was horrible with him so it can't get any worse. Next man will have to step up. I'm happy for the kid. Good luck on draft preparations.
December 29th, 2020 at 5:16 PM ^
It can always get worse.
December 29th, 2020 at 5:44 PM ^
Besides getting rid of football altogether, the defense can't get worse than this year. I keep telling myself, that this season happened because they didn't bring the team together during practice and they just showed up for the game. They practiced but not as 1 unit.
December 29th, 2020 at 4:08 PM ^
60 seconds. You had me by 60 seconds.

Lesson learned. Taking time for proper formatting, complete sentences, and working links gets you burned. Your OP is the winner in my book.
December 29th, 2020 at 4:08 PM ^
Good luck to him. A little surprising given his performance this year, but there's potential there and I can see him wanting to take that next step.
December 29th, 2020 at 4:14 PM ^
Yeah, I'm also a surprised. I imagine he'll be looking at a mid 4th to mid 6th round grade with a chance to go undrafted. Personally, I think its a poor decision from both a football and money standpoint but it's his decision to make. Wish nothing but the best for him.
December 29th, 2020 at 4:45 PM ^
Part of what Chris Balas described as a culture thing at UM (Huge Show interview). Certain guys aren't all in for Michigan, they're mainly interested in getting to the NFL. May not apply to McGrone; however, after exploding onto the scene last year, he was hardly to be found this past season for the short time he played. Best of luck.
December 29th, 2020 at 5:22 PM ^
Therein lies the problem here. It's a paradox, Jim has brought in a ton of NFL talent, but they tend to leave early. What's missing are the program Ohio guys to cover for it, which we don't have.
December 29th, 2020 at 8:12 PM ^
Program Ohio guys? What do you mean?
December 29th, 2020 at 9:29 PM ^
McGrone is a huge Michigan guy. Grew up a Michigan fan and loves Michigan. His younger brother wants to attend. This has nothing to do with him trying to get away from Harbaugh or the team.
December 29th, 2020 at 4:58 PM ^
Yeah, he'll really have to impress with interviews/combine/pro day/etc. because he doesn't necessarily have a ton of tape. And unlike Mayfield, which you can see how he'd likely translate to the pros and teams are willing to sort of take a chance on, I'm not sure the same will be applied to McGrone. But with what happened to the defensive staff this offseason I don't blame him for looking to the next step.
December 29th, 2020 at 5:37 PM ^
McGrone has traits that are translatable to the NFL. He has A+ athleticism with good hitting power.
December 29th, 2020 at 4:17 PM ^
Wow. This is surprising. Another guy who will probably be a mid/late draft pick that would rather leave instead of coming back to improve his draft stock.
We get good news with Hutchinson coming back and then this news. So Michigan football.

December 29th, 2020 at 4:10 PM ^
Best of luck Cam
December 29th, 2020 at 4:14 PM ^
First off, I do wish him well.
Secondly, what a god awful decision.
He is not draftable based on his play this year and the end of 19.
It's truly bothersome because he could have come back and become a much better player - and I'm saying this for the betterment of the kid.
December 29th, 2020 at 4:26 PM ^
Be careful. There's a woke mob around here that is ready to pounce on you and tell you how awful of a person you are for being realistic and not bowing down to kiss the feet of the players. I would expect something along the lines of, "this is such a selfish position to have. How dare you say its not a smart move. What about their dreams! NCAA bad. You're just mad they are leaving Michigan and you don't really support them, word vomit word vomit word vomit."
Its tough for some people to be objective and look at this strictly as a business decision. And strictly as a business decision, its bad.
December 29th, 2020 at 4:36 PM ^
Here’s a recent case study: who’s happier with their decision - DPJ or Nico?
December 29th, 2020 at 4:58 PM ^
Well, I guess I would say that neither should be happy with their decision. DPJ left early and became a 6th round draft pick and signed for a whopping $186k in guaranteed money and has really taken off to the tune of 293 yards on 11 catches (72 of which were on one catch). Nico originally made the better decision to return and boost his draft stock but a once in 100 year pandemic threw a wrench into the plan. Unfortunately, he then followed with making a dumb decision to sit out the rest of the year.
Unless I'm totally misreading the insinuation behind your question, what part of DPJ's decision do you think has worked out in his favor thus far? As far as I can tell, he's getting fed NFL scraps in the form of both money and playing time. Even if he absolutely takes off next season and becomes a top WR in the NFL he's still under a crappy contract for 3 more years. If he doesn't take off it's a 50-50 shot he even gets a second contract and even if he does, with his current production level, it'll be another minimal contract. Looking at it as a business decision, I see no where that DPJ came out ahead.
December 29th, 2020 at 6:30 PM ^
You think DPJ would've had a good time at Michigan the pas few months?! You think his talents would've been showcased by the train wreck of the past few months?
December 29th, 2020 at 6:59 PM ^
I asked who was happier with his decision. What I got from you is a bunch of if's and but's and a non sequitur about DPJ's NFL experience.
Looking at it today, objectively and as a business decision, I think it's clear that DPJ is quite happy with his decision. For you to deny that DPJ did not come out ahead is absurd. He's getting paid to play football and is one year closer to his second contract. An often cited reason by players when they leave early, right or wrong, is that it gets them a closer to their second contract.
DPJ had three years of evidence regarding his development at Michigan and apparently felt a fourth would not make a big enough difference. He decided to take his healthy body to the combine and draft.
Here's what we have a priori: a healthy body, a lack of certainty in further development, and a non-zero injury risk in an extra year. Additionally, here's what we know after the fact: a pandemic college season with a completely crappy offense.
And you "see no where that DPJ came out ahead"?
What did Nico get?
December 29th, 2020 at 7:24 PM ^
DPJ is how old? And made how much money this year? And played football to get that money? I think he’s grinning ear to ear.
maybe it’s not much money by “NFL standards” but it’s a LOT of money by any other standard. First year out of college standard, 22 years old standard, kid from Detroit with a bachelors degree standard, etc.
remember when he wanted to go to medical school? If he doesn’t get that second contract I think he has a rock solid plan to make that happen, if something better doesn’t happen first.
December 30th, 2020 at 1:47 AM ^
OK, so suppose we did have a normal season, then what? How many yards was DPJ gonna rack up with this terrible offense? COVID shortened the season but it wasn't responsible for the program turning into a tire fire. Bell got 400 yards in 6 games as the leading receiver. So he probably wouldn't have broken 1,000. And DPJ almost surely wouldn't have gotten 1,000 playing next to Bell and the others.
December 29th, 2020 at 4:14 PM ^
Who’s telling these kids that this is a good idea? This kid won’t be drafted. Neither will Mayfield.
December 29th, 2020 at 4:58 PM ^
December 29th, 2020 at 5:48 PM ^
Mayfield is a day 2 selection at the worst with the possibility of being a day 1 pick.
December 29th, 2020 at 7:03 PM ^
Several Mocks have Mayfield as a first round pick.
December 29th, 2020 at 4:15 PM ^
Best of luck Cam!
I find this to be odd. We could have used him back.
December 29th, 2020 at 4:15 PM ^
I think he will be pretty good in the NFL. I think his biggest issue was being out of position but i think that has more to do with the quality of the D Tackles infront of him.
December 29th, 2020 at 4:16 PM ^
Good luck young man... you'll probably need it if you try for the draft just now.
All the best.

The Reverse Hutchinson
December 29th, 2020 at 4:21 PM ^
I don't really blame him, this year was a disaster. Who knows if next year will be better while trying to learn a new scheme.
December 29th, 2020 at 4:22 PM ^
All those transfers come back to haunt us in these scenarios
December 29th, 2020 at 4:30 PM ^
Good luck to him & I really hope that there is some sort of combine to help him by showing his athleticism.
I know 2020 was a complete mess overall but he seemed very lost this year & looked like he was thinking more than reacting; too slow on some plays while overshooting gaps & ball carriers on others.
A good combine could help teams overlook some of that bad tape
December 29th, 2020 at 4:32 PM ^
Almost certainly an undrafted free agent. It's hard to say whether he would even make a roster.
He must have really loved Don Brown.
