Basketball Season is 'On' - Ohio and Sparty are playing

Mates,
We had an earlier thread about college hoops goes 'live' today.  Well right now Ohio is in a dog fight with the power house program in Akron.  Meanwhile, Sparty is hosting Kansas in a meteor game.

Michigan's first real game is tomorrow @ 6:30 v. Buffalo, and they are raising the banners (raise the Fab 5 Banners, too!).

Grateful for the in-depth analysis on the front page about our team.  Hopeful for a very solid year.  Guessing we start out a little hit-n-miss, but gel and get hot down the stretch.

Q#1:  Who wins tonight?

Q#2:  Where does Michigan finish this year in the B10, and in the NCAA tournament?

Not sure who wins tonight but Staee looks decent and some decent length.

I think UM will land somewhere between 1-3 at the top of conference and we’ll see them no lower than a 2 seed as long as they stay healthy. I like to think the B1G prepares their teams better than other conferences but the NCAA tournament is always a different animal.

MSU looks pretty good. Hoggard seems to have improved a lot, Christie looks good, it'll be interesting to see how him and Houstan compare. OSU looks like it's all Liddell and nothing else, so what a lot of people thought.

I almost texted my Sparty brothers that this loss is more productive/better for this year's team than last year's win at Duke. That win over a hobbled Duke really set up last year's fall to be bigger than it actually was. Anyway, think M is definitely better but Sparty has lost these types of games many times in the past and then come back to give us 2-3 difficult games. You can see the talent, but the turnovers and shooting will continue to haunt them if they can't clean it up.

Agree, XM, on Michigan's season. Juwan really pushes the envelope early in the season-on getting everyone playing time as opposed to ensuring wins. I think that by the time the home stretch of the schedule rolls around Michigan will have the kinks ironed out and will be a formidable force. I give the good guys a 50/50 chance of winning both the conference and the B1G tournament-but more likely the tournament than the regular season. It is very likely that they make the elite 8 and make a serious run at the NC.

XM also a resident of Kansas (Overland Park) two daughters at KU.

Bill Self remains untouchable and they have zero concern of NCAA sanctions.

Of course locals are high on this year‘s team and rightfully so.  But the locals are all stunned that Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs are a 500 team.

Jayhawks will be there usual selves and the only thing That brings K state and Missouri fan together is schadenfreude for KU.

so, like water off a duck's tail, this is what kansasans (is that a word?) think of:

KU is charged with five Level I violations (the most serious) stemming from the FBI basketball scandal that emerged in September 2017. The NCAA called the violations "egregious" and "severe." The NCAA says Self is responsible for violation of the coach responsibility bylaw.

I have no affinity for anything "Kansas". Most of the born-and-breds, in our area at least, are as harsh as the weather-and pathologically provincial.

It's all the natives have-Kansas basketball...well, they claim the Chiefs too. Otherwise, I don't pay any attention to the "general populace"...interestingly, my circle of friends are all non-natives.

I don't really know anything about any of these Michigan state players but somehow already hate all of them! They all have punchable faces and are annoying!

Clearly I view these non-conference games differently than most. I prefer even our hated rivals to win, especially, these early-season games. This is the prime time to build the conference's resume-which benefits Michigan when it comes to seeding time.

I’m not gonna draw too many conclusions from tonight. OSU struggled but they have a lot of new pieces to incorporate. Liddell is a dude. Im just not sure they have enough top end talent to compete for a Big Ten title. Same for Sparty in that regard.

While Michigan has a lot of new pieces to figure out as well, we’ve got talent all over the court this year. Defensively, we should be really really good. Offensively, I’m interested to see who steps up as the 2nd and 3rd scoring options alongside solid production from Hunter.

just realized the michigan women's hoops team is playing tonight at home.  up one in OT, 59-58 to IUPUI.  not a great start, but get through it and get better hopefully.

shooting 37% from the field and only 3 of 20 from 3pt.  woof.

Why is MSU playing in this game? UNC has won 3 national championships and made 1 more in the last 20 years. Shoot, UCONN has won 3 championships since 2000
