MAAR, the iron man
Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman just set two school records tonight: most games played in a career (143) and most minutes played in a season (1,398). Those aren't the most glamorous stats, but they show what a reliable option he's been for Beilein to turn to, this year and throughout his career.
MAAR has logged by far the most minutes of anyone on the team this season. (Matthews is second at 1,201, and Wagner third at 1,045.) Hopefully he's got enough in his legs for one more big outing.
(You can find the record lists on the MGoBlue statistics archive.)
He is a beast and has the coolest name of any Michigan basketball player ever. We just need him to step up big one more time. Please give us the MAAR against Maryland!! GO BLUE!!
and we only have 1 more game with him in a Michigan uniform. He's been a joy to watch. Hope to see him in the pros.
He needs to get out of his funk for his last game at Michigan on Monday.
He is a team leader and steadying presence -- but we shouldn't sugar-coat it: he didn't play well tonight. He needs to play much better on Monday. In fact, except for Texas A&M, he hasn't played even OK (let alone well) offensively all tourney. He has played good defense (but so has basically everybody), and that counts, but we can't have a guy playing 34 minutes a game, taking 10-plus shots, shooting around 30%.
UM has played some good teams, but we've been lucky to not play a Top 15 team all tourney, and that's not the case on Monday. We need good/great games not just from Mo and Charles, but MAAR as well. It's not a coincidence when we beat MSU and Purdue (two legit top 10 teams) MAAR scored 15 points in both games while shooting above 50%.
He look scared at times on offense tonight. He completely airballed a runner, and twice got offensive rebounds (good!) and then refused to go up with the relatively easy shot (bad!). He'll need some coaching up and some team support.
He can do it. He's got the experience (obviously).
They were like 17th. They definitely were underseeded, at any rate.
Big MAAR fan, but he is not playing well and the team actually got better with him on the bench. He has not been clutch in the tournament, this year or last.
Outside of the TAM game, MAAR is shooting around 25% from the floor and he also disappeared against Oregon last year in the tournament (1-6 shooting).
Poole is fearless. If MAAR starts out ice cold again on Monday we need to go to the freshman.
Now if we can figure out why Simpson played so poorly...because we will need him to show up and then some to win Monday.
His defense and leadership have been invaluable to this team in the tourney! He'll show up and do that again Monday. But hitting some shots sure would be nice!
. He has not been clutch in the tournament, this year or last.
Let's be fair: last year he shot a combined 8-15 in the first two games (Oklahoma St. and Louisville) which both went down to the wire. Even with Oregon factored in, he shot 43% in the tourney, which is acceptable.
This year he's had a tougher time shooting, although he's still defended well and taken care of the ball (the last four games he has 14 assists and four turnovers). While he shot poorly last night, he had zero turnovers in 33 minutes.
I do wonder if his heavy minute toll on the season is affecting his shot lately, though: he's played essentially five more games (197 more minutes) of basketball than Matthews this season and nine more than anyone else.
MAAR bricking everything, Z playing uncharacteristically poor, nothing dropping from 3. If the offense can finally show up, that defense can get us a title. MAAR & Co. have gotta have one coming here soon. Let's gooooo
A large family gathering made it to a game in December. I was telling them, whenever Michigan needs a play to be made, more often than not, it's MAAR who is involved.
He might have struggled from the field the last few games, but still, his leadership and the ability to propel Michigan in the direction of victory are outstanding.
I feel MAAR and Duncan Robinson will represent well on Monday night.
Hail.
stud and leader.
I thought his D was spectacular at times.
He will knock down some big shots on Monday night and we will really need another good defensive effort from him as well. It's been a pleasure watching him these past 4 years.
I'm counting on MAAR to float like a butterfly and sting (and score) like a BEE on Monday.
Imagine if he finishes his career out at Michigan with a big-time clutch bucket on Monday night... LETS GO BLUE
