Jim Mora Fired: Please Come Back Jedd

Who do we fire?
Frey? Drevno? Pep?
November 19th, 2017 at 2:14 PM ^
In that scenario it has to be Pep Hamilton.

Whenever I have seen Pep Hamilton interviewed I have come away with a bad impression of him. Not sure what it is exactly but he doesn't seem to have a personality that would work well with college kids.

"Cleveland actually wanted him to stay." Talk about the kiss of death. This tells you everything you need to know about Pep Hamilton right there.

Drevno will need to be fired, because I heard he is eager to go back to the west coast. I would be fine with getting rid of Pep. Also JayBaugh. There are plenty of underachieving coaches that should probably not be on staff too much longer.
Also we're getting a 10th coach soon, so no one has to leave.

If there was anyone out there who would fire his own kid because it made football sense, it's Jim Harbaugh.

I used to agree with you. I don't think I do anymore.

Frey, Pep and Drevno have been worse this year.
Don’t get me wrong the RBs aren’t that great at pass pro either so that deff looks bad for Jay.
I’d guess Drevno goes, Frey takes over the OL and Fisch returns as full time OC demoting Pep to WRs only.
November 19th, 2017 at 2:37 PM ^
Run game has greatly improved, some maulers up front. I'd give Drevno one more year to get shit in order (pass protection schemes) especially given the youth on the O-line, QB carousel due to injury, and not having many WR options due to youth.
In all fairness, dude built Stanford O-line pipeline, I doubt he forgot how to coach, and there have been signs in the run game that these guys are starting to gel.
With a returning QB (Speight or Peters) + DPJ, Black, Collins, and TE productivity, I don't thinkg it's a stretch to see this offense being one of the most improved in the country next year.
People need to back away from the "fire everybody" ledge, and let the process of a really, really young team develop take place.
Again - last year's Iowa loss was a failure by the coaching staff and cost us the playoff. This year's team, given the youth and everything replaced plus injuries at the QB position (most important position on the field) makes complaining a bit absurd.
FWIW - Thes are not excuses, I also am exhausted by the last 15 years of UM football and not being elite - but complaints last year were fair (albeit it was 3 losses by a total of 5 points).
Complaints about this year's team are a bit unsubstantiated and based a lot to do with built up frustrations from the last 2 decades of underachievement.

What are you talking about??
2006 was still the BCS era (i.e. only two teams had a shot at NC instead of 4) and OSU was undefeated. Not even saying we would have made the playoffs, but "the same scenario played out in 2006" --- umm, no

Trust me. Running for 300 yards against non-bowl teams like Rutgers, Minnesota, and Maryland means we are improving. /s
Damn, if you were even cautiously optimistic after those games you got ripped to shreds around here.

of the season. I think they are getting better and am more optistic about next year.
However, Fire Drevno. Fire Pep. Fire Jaybaugh. Hire Mike Hart and Jedd.
November 19th, 2017 at 8:41 PM ^
this season on both run and pass blocking.
Give us a hypothetical 3 more games on the same trajectory and I think we would be good enough to win 2 more games.
My thought is this is going to carry forth into next year very nicely. Would be nice to see Chuck Fil-A get some playing time too.
So I think the OL has done B+ work. I think Drevno and Frey will have this unit operating even better for next fall.
I think JayBaugh would leave for another opportunity lonng before he'd be openly fired...that doesn't fit with the way Jim handles his organization.
Fisch had some nice play designs but I also recall the nearly worthless Pepcat. I really liked the formation we had v Wisconsin on 3 & 1 when we need a yard and the entire D is stacked on the line knowing we're going to run. We got those yards without the old Hammer-Panda play. So that's a plus.

Even if Jay Harbaugh went elsewhere you could still probably google "Jay Harbaugh wife" and find pictures of her if that is your thing.

Agreed. I think Jay is doing a fairly good job. RB crew has improved over the year.

be fine with if he went back to that. I have a tendency to just freak out and say "fire everyone", but JayBaugh should not be coaching RBs, the pass pro has been horrible from them. But whoever is calling plays needs to be cut off.
November 19th, 2017 at 4:14 PM ^
I don't think he has done a bad job this year...in fact, the RBs have improved running the ball as the year went on...if you are pissed about their pass-pro, then you should look at the inability of the OL to pick up the appropriate guys. Too often, the wrong guy gets blocked allowing rushers to go free. This affects the RB pick-up, which is in part dictated by the called protection. Secondly, you should never rely on your RBs to be top pass protectors. They rarely perform as well as say a Deveon Smith did.
November 19th, 2017 at 4:46 PM ^
in every offense are an integral part of pass protection.Slide rules and protections are designed to account for a running back to pick up a guy. RB Pass Pro is a very reasonable thing to be upset about.
November 19th, 2017 at 4:54 PM ^
I never said it was unreasonable thing to be upset about, however, the Oline has shown time and time again they can't get the slides and protections right...If the protection slides the rb to protect the outside, if the interior Oline misses the stunt or blocks the wrong guy, the inability of the RB to pick the defender up isn't on him.

November 19th, 2017 at 3:18 PM ^
Based on what? Granted I don't watch the RBs as close as I could, but how do you come close to knowing how well position coaches do? You can measure performance on a team or individual level, but I don't see how Jay has impacted the RBs in any way. I don't think anyone on this blog, unless there are coaches or football literate folks who have been to practices, can say anything about how any of the coaches should be doing things differently outside of what is seen during games.
November 19th, 2017 at 10:52 PM ^
How many idiots in this thread are going to say Jay Harbaugh needs to be replaced. Honestly it shows how bad this board has gotten that I have to keep reading this garbage.
I openly citicized Jim when he hired his kid to coach TE's and I have had to eat major crow on that one, his position groups have performed well.
November 19th, 2017 at 3:48 PM ^
IMO there are some coaching positions where playing experience is necessary. I wouldn't want a defensive guy coaching quarterbacks. Similarly, I wouldn't want a guy with no college experience whatsoever coaching RBs. Just my opinion.
November 19th, 2017 at 4:18 PM ^
Yeah...we suck at running the football...if only he played the position.
Maybe you should focus on the actual results ( 35th in rushing yards per game and a good 4.6 YPG) despite a revolving door at RT this year and un-spectacular QB which has led to defenses to aim to take away the run.
November 19th, 2017 at 4:25 PM ^
If you weren't aware, runningbacks are also supposed to block occasionally.
November 19th, 2017 at 4:57 PM ^
If you weren't aware, the right tackle is suppose to block the opposite defender on every play. They clearly don't.
And furthermore, Jay clearly had the TEs last year blocking well...he didn't play that position but they performed very well, including Butt who was never a good blocker.
