No Way Alabama
Should come as no surprise. One bag-man elects to give up his identity

I don't expect anything to happen to the program, just happy to see to truth come out.
GO BLUE!

They will probably get shut down again.

since 1980. Perhaps, after this shakes out, we will even have one more. Ten years from now, we may have two or three more.
If the future ain't so bright that you need shades, then you're either not a true homer or forgetting to take your meds!

They were paid $200 to $400 for autographs total.
Meh, expected more honestly.

You ever hear the clip from Cowherd where he said Rich Rod lost his job because he didn’t get TP, and Sweater Vest lost his job because he did get TP?
Sumlin is kind of living out if Rich Rod did get TP - bought him a few years of positivity - but he gone.

Honestly, this doesn't seem like a big deal. If kids aren't being paid for their autographs at all the other large schools I'd be shocked
November 6th, 2017 at 5:18 PM ^
The fact that players can't make extra cash by signing autographs or selling their game used memorabilia is pretty ridiculous to me.
November 7th, 2017 at 8:39 AM ^
Yeah, because those things could never be abused to result in players being paid to play for a given school, amiright?
November 6th, 2017 at 5:19 PM ^
Nobody cares. The SEC doesnt care (they all cheat and they all know they all cheat), ESPN doesnt care (they make more money if the mighty, might SEC rules the college universe) and the NCAA sure as hell doesnt care.
I have given up worrying about recruiting cheating from the southern schools. I do believe Michigan, in both football and especially basketball, dont cheat and that's good. It also means that bout 50% of top tier high school football players would never even consider us and probabably 80-90% of all top tier basketball players.
November 6th, 2017 at 5:24 PM ^
This is (in a weird tangential way) why I hope Charles Matthews absolutely kills it for us this year. He was the kind of 5 star guy we would never usually be in the hunt for. I'm vaguely hoping some of the top tier guys see him fail at Kentucky, come here, get some actual coaching, and blow up into a top end NBA talent. I know that this is all wishful thinking and that anyone paying attention to coaching (or, honestly, draft output) would see Beliein and Michigan as a destination, but I think his story can be really compelling to a 5 star kid, if he blows up this year. Compelling enough to pull them away from the dollars? Who knows. But every little bit helps.

Yes, but to get a degree at Michigan, you have to play school. Not everyone wants to play school, some just need to be part of a school to play ball.
November 7th, 2017 at 10:42 AM ^
So, because "nobody" cares, it is okay for us not to?
November 6th, 2017 at 5:21 PM ^
So now this bubbles up. No sh!t sherlock.
November 6th, 2017 at 5:22 PM ^
for the NCAA, they won't do anything to them. Now if Texas St. gave a recruit a free meal they would probably cut their nuts off, but to their money makers....... nothing.
November 7th, 2017 at 8:42 AM ^
These are the kinds of comments that make me wonder if people have forgotten what the NCAA is. Michigan is as much the NCAA as any school. How does Alabama's success represent a cash cow for Michigan?
November 6th, 2017 at 5:26 PM ^
The USC 24/7 thread with the pictures of all the players and their cars was really the telling one. While this is a violation, to be sure, the car "program" there is much bigger. Probably only the tip of the iceberg, though.
November 6th, 2017 at 6:25 PM ^
If there is a program that shouldn't need to cheat to recruit, it's USC.
Yet they do it anyway.
It's just part of their DNA.
November 6th, 2017 at 5:27 PM ^
These aren't recruiting violations, so frankly, I don't care. In fact, I tip my cap to these guys for thumbing their noses at the NCAA and making some money in the process. The NCAA is the bad guy here, not 'Bama or these players.
November 7th, 2017 at 8:47 AM ^
Exactly. College sports (aka the National Collegiate Athletic Association, aka the collective 1123 colleges and universities that are the NCAA) is corrupting, and must be eliminated. Amirite? Coleges and universities that play inter-collegiate sports ARE the bad guys, as you note, and should be punished.
November 7th, 2017 at 2:58 PM ^
Equating a governing body and its rules with each and every one of the 350+ colleges and universities that are members of that governing body, as well as the entire enterprise that the governing body regulates, is a totally sensible response to criticism of that governing body. So sensible, in fact, that the response should be wrapped in snark and sarcasm that obscures how asanine a response it really is. Great job!
November 6th, 2017 at 5:27 PM ^
the NCAA owns your autograph too. Nothing obscenely wrong with that.
November 6th, 2017 at 5:36 PM ^
Seriously. The fact that this is being spun as some kind of controversy is more an indictment of the NCAA's hypocrisy and twisted priorities than anything else.
November 7th, 2017 at 8:50 AM ^
Seriously. Intercollegiate sports are hypocritical and have twisted priorities. As an aside, do you condemn intramural sports as well? they aren't governed by the NCAA, but the same corrupt, hypocritical, and twisted colleges and universities sponsor them.

My advice is to start hanging around FL, TN, and LSU. All in the South, and they all need players.
