Hockey Hello: Jake Gingell
Jake Gingell, a local kid from Chelsea has committed to Michigan. He had previously been committed to Michigan Tech......Hmmmmmm Seems Mel has liked the kid for some time.
Jake is a defensemen and, having met him, is a really nice kid.
Pretty sure his cousin was the kicking variety Gingell from the football team several years ago.
Will leave the more detailed information for those on the board who have better contacts.

Jason "Jake" Gingell, the 30-year-old freshman

Jake is 20. 6'1" and 195. While not a huge guy I suspect it would be less than fun having him squish you against the boards.

I meant Jason is 30. Plus I am unsquishable

I now see what you did there BB. Although, if you resemble your Avatar in the least....I dare say there is some squish factor there.

He's nice? Damnit. We need snarling bruisers for defensemen.

Leaning on the googles as my friend I learned that Jake is considered a "hard nosed" defensemen....There is also some evidence of his partaking in a fight or two, so you may just get your wish tjohn!! Kid may just have a mean streak.

it is possible to be both!

I don't know what Henrik Zetterberg has to do with congratulating Jake /s

Mel's bringing in the talent.
Just noticed on my calendar that UM hockey has its first game under Mel Pearson in 9 days. An exhibition match in A2, September 30, at 7:00 pm. The official season starts the following Friday at St. Lawrence. GO BLUE!!!

Everytime I see a "Hello" thread I always race in to see who the new boss of a football player that coach has assembled... I rarely even take notice if its a hockey, womens basketball etc label.

If he had his own variety of berries, they'd be called Gingell Berries...

Well I thought it was funny. I don't get all the down voting nonsense here

There are many, many wonderful people on this board. Then there are 25 of the world's biggest dipshit assholes. I am not sure which group I fall in, but that's who does all the downvoting...

But who cares? It's a college football message board. I know there are some very cool, very successful folks roaming these pages each day. I also know there's a bunch of folks I wouldn't let wash my car for free, so.... :-D

are going to be in for a surprise, I think. This year and going forward; seems to me that Mel is ahead of schedule.

I agree with you. Lots of people have grimmer outlooks for the season. I like Lockwood and Cecconi and hope that the other guys take the step from last year to this. Add on improvement from the L's in net and Hughes/Norris and it should certainly be an above .500 team, perhaps top-3 in the conference.
I'm partial to this team as well because I dig the new glove/pant combo:

Is this the commit that Brian hinted at during the last podcast?

As long as he doesn't get any kicks blocked vs. App State, great.
