Purdue fans predictions and comments for the Michigan game
To say that some Purdue fans are confident might be a massive understatement. They are riding high right now after upsetting Missouri, and expect no less against Michigan.
I was surfing around Big Ten blogs and message boards and I found a few comments that were a little mouthy from Purdue fans IMO, and I thought I'd post them here - just in case you weren't properly motivated.
Purdue could mess around and beat Michigan next week. Jeff Brohm is a difference maker.

Purdue upsets Michigan next week. You heard it here first
It feels strange to type this, but Purdue is the biggest test Michigan's defense has faced to this point.
Yes, Purdue is good enough to beat Michigan
Purdue has actually beaten Ohio State more times in the last 10 years than Michigan has.
Oh, and we needed fewer tries too.

Brohm is going to scheme against a very strong defense and Purdue is not going to get shut down completely. I am not expecting another 35-42 points, but We’re going to score some. Can we keep Michigan kicking field goals or worse?
I don’t think Michigan has the offensive talent to run away from us, let alone most teams in the Big Ten.
Purdue has more wins over Ohio State since 2004 than Michigan
I say that’s legit.

Michigan is way overrated
I wouldn't be surprised if UM ended up 6 - 6 or 7 - 5. I give UM at least 3 BIG victories because of their defense but unless our offense improves drastically from it's putrid play the previous two weeks against inferior opponents Purdue fans will be celebrating a decisive victory.
I agree with some fans here, if Purdue is able to get an early lead, UM simply doesn't have the offense to score enough points.
If Purdue can't beat UM then Brohm needs to be fired. The Big Ten is way down this year except Penn State which the only team getting a major bowl invite. Harbaugh has nothing to prove this year because if you true football fans have been paying any attention Harbaugh is heading to the Colts next year.
I watched them play a good but not great AFA team yesterday. Their QB did not throw accurately and made some poor decisions. Michigan defense is solid but certainly vulnerable, didn't have much of a pass rush on smaller AFA OL.
We can beat these guys.
Michigan is certainly beatable
Playing in front of a sellout homecoming crowd against atop ten team...I can't see a let down. Michigan could handle them but I dont think it would be because we're not ready to play.
We cannot lose to this clown
Two games in a row with mediocre performances till 4 the qtr. Should Purdue strike early and often by getting points, it might be too late for Michigan to catch up.
This year is different and feels different. We now know how to score with a balanced attack. Our defense plays stingy as well.
Purdue 35 MI 24.
Kids believing in themselves is the key,he is telling them right now lets win our first big ten game at home in front of a sellout crowd, shock the world again.
Purdue will blow the game open if Michigan plays as lethargic as they have in the past two games in the red zone thru 3 quarters. My hunch stays with a track race pace that Michigan cannot keep up with. Holding officially at Purdue 35 Michigan 24.
Michigan is ripe for the picking. I know we haven't beat a ranked team in yrs. It will happen on 9/23.
My guess is that Harbaugh tries to simply out tough and out muscle Purdue (which a team hasn't either tried or been able to) to run them down in the late 3rd and 4th quarter...my guess is that is what Missouri wanted to do but when Purdue got up 21-0 in the first quarter, that went to hell and a hand basket.
If you enjoyed watching us crush Missouri, you'll enjoy what Brohm has in store for Michigan. 42-12 Boilers
The great thing about playing Michigan right now is their quarterback SUCKS! Boiler the fuck up baby!
Brohm has us on a path to 9-3, just like Tiller in '97. We're going to whup that ass on Sept 23 and I'm going to say I told ya so
35-7 Boilermakers. Michigan is garbage.
They can't score in the red zone HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Fuck Michigan
Sellout crowd = huge Purdue win
Michigan is scared
Jeff Brohm > Don Brown
I have been waiting a long, long time for a huge Purdue upset, and I can feel it coming this Saturday against Michigan. For 4 yrs with Hazell we sucked, but now we have a legitimate coach in Brohm. Michigan is 100 percent overrated and 100 percent beatable. They have no idea what's in store for them. Harbaugh's "vaunted offense" has been a complete joke this year. Their defense will have no answer for Brohm's schemes. He's a brilliant play caller. Expect this to be just like the Missouri game. Michigan would get walloped by Missouri… we shut THEM DOWN. Can Michigan even move the ball? Can they even score points? We get through and sack Speight once and HE'S DONE. There is no reason why we can't win this game. Michigan dies officially on September 23, a day that will live in Purdue football history forever.
What a joy it would be to embarrass Michigan on national tv
Stat of the Day:
MICHIGAN SUCKS
Don Brown vs Jeff Brohm? One is a genius and the other coaches for Michigan. Brohm wins every day
Purdue wins and the meltdown from Michigan fans will be EPIC
This will be my daughter's first game and she is so excited to watch us beat Michigan.
Purdue 42, MI 6

I think I remember fans of Rutgers crowing ina fairly similar fashion, even after being lambasted by Ohio State...while I am nervous for the offense and will grant that if the offense has to win the game for UM there will be consternation...I think I've seen how this has played out before...

Let them have their fun. They had to spend 4 years at Purdue and then had to deal with the last two coaching regimes.
Michigan by at least 11 (*wink*).

"If Purdue can't beat UM then Brohm needs to be fired. "
HAHAHAHA. If the best coach they've had since Joe TIller can't win a game for which he's a double digit underdog, he should be fired four games into his tenure! Hilarious.

Well, the guy who said that Purdue is the biggest test our defense has faced so far is probably right.
September 21st, 2017 at 12:24 PM ^
Yeah I read through about the first half of these and I actually agree with most of them. Purdue does indeed seem improved, so much so that (on paper at least) they have a shot to beat Michigan in their first road test.
September 21st, 2017 at 12:55 PM ^
Playing in Dallas was probably a good thing, many Michigan fans in attendance notwithstanding, as neutral site games are not the same as playing in Michigan Stadium.
September 21st, 2017 at 3:23 PM ^
Given that AT&T stadium was indoors, it certainly was a louder environment with the 35,000+ Gator fans in attendance than the 45,000 Purdue fans will be outside.
September 21st, 2017 at 1:09 PM ^
I have a bad feeling about this game.
One of two things happens, in my opinion -
Our offense figures things out a bit and looks competent
OR
We lose.
Purdue will put up a point total in the 20's, I believe. If the offense cannot produce at least 2-3 touchdowns, I think we lose.
September 21st, 2017 at 1:37 PM ^
I have a similar feeling. The main thing that keeps me sane is the fact that they have 1 sack and like 4 TFLs through 3 games. Our weakness is even moreso their weakness.
September 21st, 2017 at 4:47 PM ^
September 21st, 2017 at 2:12 PM ^
Our Defense has scored some TD's this year, and considering Purdue's weaknesses, there's no reason to think they won't on Saturday. It's feasible we could get a score or two on defense, another DPJ housing a punt return, and the Offense finally putting some red zone issues together.
Absolutely no reason to panic. Trust the 'stache.

so the recruiting classes, the coaching staff, the preparation ,the fact that michigan has been in big games forever. throw all that out the window. because, by god purdue is improved and excited this year and there is just no beating them. so there is no reason for purdue to fear michigan because they have had such great success over so many years. get real. expect a good game but why the bad feeling?

September 21st, 2017 at 1:11 PM ^
Keep reading.
The are not just predicting a win but a blow out. They also say Missouri would smoke Michigan and criticize Brown and say the Def can't get pass rush.
They have a shot at a win if the offense plays like they have and does not start clicking. But, they are not winning 42-6 or 35-12 like they are predicting.
My prediction is Harbaugh opens up the playbook more and weget alot of TE up the seems to gash them. If they can score their frst or second time in the redzone watch out because Purdue is not going to be able to do their long developing plays that have killed other defenses.
September 21st, 2017 at 8:45 PM ^
I actually think this may be the blowout we've been waiting for. PU gets poor defensive pressure. With some time to get set Speight should do much better. I think he'll find his receivers, and I suspect Harbaugh & Co. will bring out some additional packages they've been holding back.
I don't see how PU's OL can possibly hold up against M's pressure. Not that Brohm won't have some good ideas. I'm sure we'll see some tunnel screens but PU's QB isn't good enough to consistently make plays against this D.
Their fans laugh at AF but that team is probably better than PU overall.
M 37-13

Some of those comments were reasonable, some were on the level of "DA BEARS!"
September 21st, 2017 at 12:01 PM ^
One thing I've noticed from years of watching football is that when a team has a good offense but a not-so-great defense, fans tend to be MORE confident than they should be (i.e., they overvalue the importance of offense and undervalue the role of defense). But when the reverse is true (great defense but not-so-great offense), fans tend to be LESS confident than they should be. I think this accurately describes Purdue and Michigan fans' attitudes right now.
September 21st, 2017 at 12:09 PM ^
That seems like a good description if you ask me. One thing that has been downplayed so far for Michigan is that our defense has been kicking ass despite not playing with a huge lead. It's not like we go up 20 points right away and the other team is already in not-in-the-face mode. After offensive gacks or FGs it's been mostly lol nope you're still going to die, it'll just take an extra quarter.
September 21st, 2017 at 2:06 PM ^
That's a good description. I haven't been stressed about losing during any of our games, just mildly annoyed at how long it's taking to put them away. But with this defense it just feels inevitable.
September 21st, 2017 at 5:36 PM ^
Made our defense look less like a category 5 hurricane it is and more like the big bad wolf in the commercial for COPD.
I bet a majority of those over confident fans didn't look at much more than end score.
September 21st, 2017 at 12:12 PM ^
Kinda like how I felt in weeks 1-4 of Richrod's last two years when the offense finally appeared to be clicking. I thought maybe we'd finally be a top 10 team again. Then it turned out the offense wasn't great and the D couldn't stop anyone
September 21st, 2017 at 1:01 PM ^
September 21st, 2017 at 1:20 PM ^
Years two and three of RichRod? Both years, there were a few warning signs from the defense during weeks 1-4. But then when we reached the Indiana game, got shredded by their offense and had to barely escape with shootout wins...that was confirmation for me that we were screwed the rest of the season.
God, now I'm depressed. What were we talking about again?

The problem here is that Purdue doesn't really have a great squad in either offense or defense. They are #71 in overall S&P+, #66 in offense, and #75 in defense. Against an average team (ranked #50) Michigan's defense should give up 12.8 points. Purdue should struggle to score points this weekend and likely will. Missouri's defense is pretty terrible, #100 in S&P+. If Missouri is a benchmark for how an offense will perform against the second best defense in the country, then I would say Purdue fan is getting their hopes up for nothing.
Michigan's offense is #49 in S&P+ which is pretty average. Against an average defense they should score 32.0 points. Purdue's defense is well below average. Secure the football and play field position with Purdue and they will struggle. Harbaugh's philosophy is that if you win two of the three phases in football (offense, defense, and special teams) you typically win the game. Two of those phases are clearly advantage Michigan. If the offense pulls it together, we will see a blowout Saturday. I'm not incredibly nervous about this game. I give their fans credit for getting pumped up. Wierd shit happens in college football, but I don't think it will to Michigan on Saturday.
September 21st, 2017 at 12:39 PM ^
Does S&P+ have Air Force and Cincy as above average defenses? I would assume Florida is. Just trying to figure out the logic in their math if they think Michigan should be scoring 32ppg vs. an average defense, but they been right around 22ppg on offense in their first three. That's kind of a big gap between expectation and reality.
September 21st, 2017 at 1:01 PM ^
S&P has Cinci 41st and AF 112th in defense, respectively
September 21st, 2017 at 1:17 PM ^
How is AFA that low?
September 21st, 2017 at 2:01 PM ^
I think a lot of it is because of pre-season projections. They have lowly ranked recruiting classes and lost basically every starter they have. The things that make up pre-season projections are not things that I think tend to apply to Air Force because they have odd schemes and are basically assured to have all upper classmen because they don't have scholarship restrictions.
September 21st, 2017 at 1:06 PM ^
Redzone inefficiency is most of that gap.
September 21st, 2017 at 1:46 PM ^
I would assume so, but feels like that should factor in to things. If it was just 1 or 2 games, then maybe its not statistically significant, but its all three games, and they are 2nd to last in the country at converting redzone trips into TDs. Feels like that should count for something significant.
And isn't S&P+ still influenced by last season at this point? Wonder how much that is boosting Michigan's profile at the moment. Or conversly, lowering a team like Purdue or Air Force.
September 21st, 2017 at 3:49 PM ^
Don't forget about the fourth phase: The refs. We won all three other phases last year against OSU but that still wasn't enough.
September 21st, 2017 at 8:52 PM ^
Fans are also apt for wild optimism at the beginning of a season. For crying out loud, Purdue blew out a terrible Mizzou team. And Louisville's D isn't as good as M's. They're 2-1 and suddenly they think they can play with M and OSU. Incredible.

You need to cut Purdue fans a little slack. They have been in a dark dungeon for many years and now are starting to see a little light and it's blinding their sanity.
Reality will soon get in the way of their dreams.
