One Frame At A Time: Florida
No, it wasn't a fun day to be a Florida quarterback. Many more hits in the backfield plus some big runs, crushing blocks, long bombs, field goals(!), and more in GIF form after the jump.
[JUMP]
I'm switching over entirely to Gfycats this year because they load so much faster than normal GIFs and make these posts way, way easier to format. They've added the ability to kill autoplay, so these hopefully won't overload mobile devices anymore. Just hit play and enjoy; if you want to futz around with the speed or go frame-by-frame, click through for all the various gfycat toys. You'll want to bookmark this page as the MGoBlog Gfycat library grows, too. Finally, don't forget to vote for your favorite at the end of the post.
HONORABLE MENTION
Instead of listing every single thing I GIF'd for these, I'm going to start linking the ones that barely missed the cut, and I'll direct you to the full Gfycat album if you want to see the rest. Linking to a full set of 42 GIFs felt like overkill. The most honorable mentions:
Sad Florida Fan. Sad Florida Fans. Florida Fan F-Bomb.
Hudson Forces Buttfumble.
Ambry Thomas strip/recovery.
Three linebackers combine for TFL.
Rashan Gary, Arm Collector.
Ty Isaac Breaks Loose.
10. The Second Quarter, In Summary
You're looking live at every Michigan fan after the second pick-six.
9. Hello, Fourth-String Tight End
There's always a moment in the first game of the year when you pull up the roster and go "who was that guy?" This was that moment. That guy was Florida native Nick Eubanks.
8. Two Guys, A Spy, And A QB About To Die
On a late third-and-long, Michigan decides to rush two linemen with Chase Winovich acting as a QB spy. Let's see how that went:
Brutal. Let's see it again:
Delightfully brutal.
7. Invisibility Cloak, Now In Larger Sizes
Should they have called the "don't guard the 6'4" wideout" play, Wilton?
Agreed.
6. Dreaded Missile
There was too much good from Devin Bush to limit this to one GIF. Sack number one:
Sack number two:
Picking his way through traffic for a third-down TFL:
Can anyone block him?
I didn't think so.
5. Wild Thing
You make my heart sing:
You make everything... groovy:
Wild Thing.
4. Hammered
The corner on this play wanted absolutely no part of getting hit up high by Khalid Hill:
The defensive end on this play wasn't given a choice:
3. Rudely Discarded
The pursuit by Lawrence Marshall is excellent, but the real highlight is Josh Metellus shedding a block with such force he literally tosses the receiver two yards away from the play. Marshall then wrecks the same guy and dives on the ball for good measure.
2. Bears On The Loose
Man, I can't imagine seeing anything more impressive than a strongside defensive end making a tackle on a wide receiver screen.
[puts hand to ear] I'm getting word that... oh dear god:
Abandon all hope, ye who enter here.
FRAMES OF THE GAME: SEALED WITH A HIT
I have no idea what the left tackle was doing but Chase Winovich sure knew how to take advantage:
A replay? Sure, that sounds delightful.

I keep hearing about this RR guy and some other poor schlub named Hoke on here. Did I miss something?
September 6th, 2017 at 5:36 PM ^
This 3-3-5 would have given RR a boner.

that the LT kept moving farther out (to the LT's left) as the game went on. So, on the sack / TD play Winovich decided to quick-fake out & cut inside the LT. Great perception, plan, & move.

The defense simply shredded whatever existed of the UF team morale

he didn't scold Malik and say hell I yelled lookout what were you doing back there...

Number 80's reaction is great too after Furbush denies him a shot at the recovery.

Couldn't help but notice you forgot arguably the biggest play of the week

a very professional podcast.

The 1F@at entries including the two WR screens reminded me of your comment about how we're blowing them up "like with Jabrill Peppers but with defensive linemen".
I do wonder how long opposing offenses -- especially the wideouts -- will consider those screens a good idea. Peppers' hits were violent enough but within the realm of reason; this is an almost criminal way to wipe out that play.

On Sealed With a Hit, the LT starts arguing with the LG before Winovich even hits the QB. That is the fasted thing a Florida player did the entire game, with the possible exception of the CB hitting the ground before the Hammering Panda cleaned his clock.

Waiting a few months for content like OFAAT and UFR. Thanks guys.

He makes the sack after the DL had him by the facemask and swung his helmet around.
September 6th, 2017 at 2:56 PM ^
which is part of the reason I voted for that gif.
It didn't seem to slow Bush down much.

I could watch FL #4 all day on the Metellus/Marshall fumble.
September 6th, 2017 at 2:09 PM ^
I remember during the game thinking that Metellus came out of nowhere. Now I can see that he and the soon-to-be discarded were being masked by the score-box for most of the play.
September 6th, 2017 at 2:26 PM ^
did not have a stellar day for UF. He is also featured in the Gary screen-killer gif with a half-assed block and I remember several other poor effort blocks.
September 6th, 2017 at 3:04 PM ^
I remember live thinking "why is #4 so pissed? He didn't fumble the ball." It was only on rewatch that I realized how comprehensively he was destroyed not once, but twice.
September 6th, 2017 at 3:51 PM ^
is #4 getting the Metelllus treatment, the Marshall treatment, and then tantrum.
September 6th, 2017 at 6:28 PM ^
The hustle and pursuit by Marshall is awesome. It almost looks like he thinks about slowing down, then decides to finish the play. I love seeing him on the field and producing!

I disagree with one of the tags....
Devin Bush should most definitely NOT be kept away from kim jong un.....he should be UNLEASHED...would solve the whole NK unrest in about 3 ferocious seconds!!!!

closing speed and his nose for the ball. Can't wait to see the UFR...

September 6th, 2017 at 3:57 PM ^
... that Michigan defense does not have sideline-to-sideline speed.
Way to exploit that, Gators!
September 6th, 2017 at 3:02 PM ^
Hill kinda pauses to gloat over the other guy and gets wiped out from his blindside himself.
September 6th, 2017 at 2:04 PM ^
The amazing thing about both of the wr screens that our D LINE made tackles on is that they were play action plays that would have also failed if they handed the ball off. Our entire D was in great position for both the run that was faked and then also for the pass that was completed. Either way Flordia fails on those plays!!!!
September 6th, 2017 at 2:39 PM ^
...if only our D-Line could move side-to-side!

It was perfect as my 11 year old is playing DE this year and I keep stessing to him the importance of using "violent hands" to get past a Tackle. To me it looks like Chase grabs the LT's right wrist and gives his arm a quick yank as he does a simple swim move to the inside.
+3 for Chase on that play......
Man, this D Line is just going to roll up on the sack total this year....
Calling WD, what is the season record for sacks in 1 season?

That will work once against an average pass blocker. The next time, I'm gonna anticipate and pull my hand away from your grip, step forward, seal and jab under your pads while you try to disengage. Then, I'm going to step on your hand while you're on the ground.
If you try it again, I'll roll at your feet. Actually, I might do that the first time.
