Puck's Soliloquy
If we shadows have offended, think but this and all is mended.
[jump]
That you have but slumbered here, while these visions did appear:
And this weak and idle theme, no more yielding but a dream.
Gentles do not reprehend,
for if you pardon, we will mend.
And as I am an honest Puck,
If we have unearned luck,
Now to 'scape the serpent's tongue,
we will make amends 'ere long.
Else the puck a liar call?
So good night unto you all.
Give me your hands if we be friends.
And Robin shall restore amends.

Love that play.
December 15th, 2020 at 3:16 PM ^
We did the play in high school. The humor really holds up well in any time frame. Bill was a heck of a writer.
December 15th, 2020 at 5:07 PM ^
The most prescient line he ever wrote was "Navarre shall be the wonder of the world."
December 15th, 2020 at 3:17 PM ^
#TheMichiganDifference is when you know by "that play" he meant "a midsummer night's dream" and not "a late fall's ill-advised pass into double coverage"
December 15th, 2020 at 3:24 PM ^
*Wakes up in a fog*. "I had a dream that I was infatuated with Joe Milton and Josh Gattis. It can't possibly be real."

I was in this play in 9th grade (just some no-lines elf). I memorized Puck's soliloquy for tryouts and have used it since as part of my radio warmup.
Felt it was the only fitting end for this season.

Suitable alternatives would have also included King Lear and MacBeth. Hell, there's even possibilities with Romeo and Juliet.
December 15th, 2020 at 3:55 PM ^
No it had to be one if the comedies.

This was perfect. IMO up there with your Bo eulogy in terms of timing and execution.

It was well done.

10th. Studied and saw it at Stratford in 7th grade, was an extra (Oberon's fairies were pompadour-coifed "thugs" in our 1950's Grease-inspired rendition at Pioneer) in 10th. Still quite delightful.
December 15th, 2020 at 5:08 PM ^
I had the same dream. Weird.
December 15th, 2020 at 4:56 PM ^
Man you have low standards. It’s like you think they’re gods or something. The play completely falls apart because Puck screws up his assignment, Demetrius chases the wrong route (did he fall asleep??), and Bottom gets donkeyed out of the play. The players are an undisciplined mess.

I liked all of those plays! We need more plays like that!
December 15th, 2020 at 3:09 PM ^
I forgot what it felt like to force a turnover on defense.
Bravo!

$8M paid to a head coach for 2 wins sounds like a lot, but they included a road win over top 25 Minnesota* and a triple overtime win over Rutger**, so yeah.
*Please do not look at Minnesota's record, only the little number by their name in the highlight
**Please do not look at Rutger record at any time.

*Please do not look at Minnesota's record, only the little number by their name in the highlight
A year from now when Michigan is getting ready to kick their first game, the announcers will talk about Michigan coming off a bad year "but that included a win against a top 25 Minnesota team on the road, so this team can put it together". That is how these things work. It's the reason that so many teams claim a win over a top 25 Michigan squad, because Michigan got the early season hype and by the end of the year they were 7-5 and out of the top 25. Pre-season rankings are stupid, and rankings in general shouldn't come out until week 6. That won't change though because they need the numbers next to the names for the viewership numbers.

i'd rather eat my own eyeballs.
luckily, they rolled out of my stupid head when i read your comment, which used an obviously un-analytical post to bitch, once again, about jim harbaugh and how lousy the season was and woe is us and blah blah blah. bonus points for bringing up *by far* the least interesting part of any of this, that being his salary. it's all boring and whiny as hell.

Just now realizing that Corum's td against MSU where he got to the edge was designed as an inside run
I hate these coaches
December 15th, 2020 at 5:17 PM ^
Excellent comment. I love every single Michigan player, and I hate every single Michigan coach.
Figuratively of course -- don't get it twisted. But what a goddamn waste of talent, motivation, and heart. The coaches should apologize to every single player.
