He is going back to the pros, regardless of extension or not... No way he continues if he goes 6-6 each year, and he will unless he goes back to a non-gimmick defense.
November 8th, 2020 at 2:52 PM ^
Is he wanted back in the pros?
November 8th, 2020 at 3:23 PM ^
Maybe his brother would hire him as an analyst?!, otherwise his worth is limited.
November 8th, 2020 at 3:31 PM ^
Yeah, a guy who took a team to the Super Bowl has limited worth.
Brilliant analysis.
November 8th, 2020 at 5:23 PM ^
What have you done for me lately?!. 8-8 his last year with 49'ers, and now this debacle. Nobody will hire him as a head football coach, too much baggage. Heck, probably wouldn't pass the psych eval.
November 8th, 2020 at 8:50 PM ^
I'm convinced that SalvatoreQuattro is actually Harbaugh's account.
November 8th, 2020 at 3:46 PM ^
I’m sure he would still get interest from NFL teams. They love recycling coaches.
November 8th, 2020 at 6:18 PM ^
A totally "feels" take. Dude we are all upset about the team but let's be realistic here.
Obligatory: srsly
November 8th, 2020 at 3:30 PM ^
His one term in the NFL he did extremely well.
November 8th, 2020 at 4:34 PM ^
Until he faded and got let go. Sound familiar?
November 8th, 2020 at 4:49 PM ^
And yet somehow, the team that he took to the Super Bowl, found him so abrasive and unable to work with that they opened the door for him to leave and head to Ann Arbor.
November 8th, 2020 at 8:39 PM ^
If only he was still somewhat abrasive and feisty. That Harbaugh got much better results than the rather sad, emotionally flat JH we see today...
November 8th, 2020 at 10:19 PM ^
This take is spot on. The abrasive and feisty version of Harbaugh is the one that belongs in college. Seems we now have the emotionally flat version that is a perfect fit in the NFL.
November 9th, 2020 at 7:46 AM ^
That split in SF had just as much to do with Baalke as it did Harbaugh. Maybe more.
November 8th, 2020 at 2:46 PM ^
It can't have been signed yet, because otherwise it would be subject to FOIA and other public records laws. So no.
November 8th, 2020 at 4:05 PM ^
The regents would have had to approved it at a public meeting too. Michigan’s open meetings act is very hard to get around.
November 8th, 2020 at 2:49 PM ^
I hope this is true. Cooler heads need to prevail in this case.
November 8th, 2020 at 2:55 PM ^
Avatar checks out.
November 8th, 2020 at 3:25 PM ^
Indeed.
Personally I think we should keep Hokebaugh. We won’t cheat and excuses and other excuses which seem to be valid for OSU but then again Hokebaugh gets his teeth kicked in by an MSU squad that lost to Iowa by 42 points.
He’s had some good wins. But then again so has Matt Campbell at Iowa State and even Muschamp beat UGA last year. Freaking Will Muschamp has a more impressive win than Hokebaugh. Gross.
November 8th, 2020 at 3:41 PM ^
OK. I feel bad that you are so angry. I think your anger is preventing you from completely remembering what transition and the Hoke era really looked like. In my opinion, I think there are the haves which are maybe six programs at most and the have nots which are all of the rest. For the have nots, there is a lot of variance on a week to week basis. That is seen all over the scoreboard especially this year. I believe that JJH is close to getting us to that upper tier. This years team, especially the version that took the field yesterday, is missing a metric ton of NFL talent. That is not easy to replace when you are not in the top tier.
Anyway, I respect your opinion, wish you some peace, and will have to agree to disagree.
November 8th, 2020 at 3:59 PM ^
How can you say he's close to getting us to that top tier? His best 2 years here were his first 2. His teams have gotten worse since then. Last year, with all of that NFL talent, he went 9-4 with 3 blowout losses. And this year we're quite possibly the worst team in the division and maybe only better than Minnesota in the entire league. So how is he doing getting us close to that upper tier?
November 8th, 2020 at 4:05 PM ^
With Hoke's players no less.
November 8th, 2020 at 4:29 PM ^
Again, just my opinion. You are welcome to yours.
The top tier is rarified air. The variance below that week to week is very high. That is why there are still many unexpected loses. Look at PSU this year. Our blowout win over ND last year. This odd COVID year has even made that worse. Look at how long it took Clemson to get into the top tier. In my opinion, we need to take a long term look at this situation. We already have a proven coach with a proven record of success. No reason to start over. Which is exactly what this would be.
November 8th, 2020 at 4:04 PM ^
JH can't even get us into tier two, how could you possibly believe he'll get us into the upper tier? What was the excuse last year when that metric ton of NFL talent lost 4 games?
November 8th, 2020 at 4:32 PM ^
Just two tiers - haves / have nots. We are in tier two.
November 8th, 2020 at 5:32 PM ^
If you ignore there's a difference between the have nots sure. There are 4 tiers: tier one, the perennial contenders, tier two, the occasional contenders, tier three, the best of the rest, and tier four, here's your check thanks for playing. We're in tier three, let's get into tier two before we worry about tier one.
November 8th, 2020 at 6:17 PM ^
Your model is old and no longer applicable. In playoff era college football, it is two-tiered. There are no occasional contenders. With every year that passes, the division is more clear. It is very difficult to break in to the top tier. It takes time.
November 8th, 2020 at 6:24 PM ^
Sorry man, UAB and Georgia are not in the same tier. If you're going to deny reality to this degree why don't you just convince yourself we're currently undefeated and have been for the last six years?
November 8th, 2020 at 8:44 PM ^
No convincing needed. I have agreed that we are not in the top tier. The top group is more isolated than it has ever been. This is fact. The rest are just wallowing in the maddening and “unexplained” variance.
November 8th, 2020 at 9:27 PM ^
I don't know what that has to do with anything I said. I'm not making any comment on the difficulty of getting into the top tier. I'm saying we have a lot of work to do before that is even on the table. Georgia and UAB are not in the same tier and we're closer to UAB than we are to Georgia and they're not in tier one either.
November 8th, 2020 at 2:50 PM ^
Why would they be stupid enough to do that when more than likely other programs are negatively recruiting that our coach is the only coach in football on a one year deal?
If they were to extend him I might literally vomit.
November 8th, 2020 at 2:51 PM ^
I really don't think Michigan plans on bringing harbaugh ack. Simple business, we can't keep paying him what he is making. He would have to take a serious pay cut because he is just not delivering given the amount of money he makes.
Jim cannot take any less money out of a pride thing. He is a very prideful person and there's just no way he would take a pay cut of half to even less than that of what he was currently making now.
November 8th, 2020 at 2:54 PM ^
I don't think this is true. The football team has made a ton of money with Harbaugh as its head coach.
November 8th, 2020 at 2:51 PM ^
I don't hate to say this you are absolutely top 3 worst posters on this site.
November 8th, 2020 at 2:53 PM ^
This may be unpopular, but I think they really need to sign the extension. Other teams are absolutely using this against us in recruiting and Harbaugh isn't going to get fired after the funky COVID year. It simply isn't happening. If the wheels fall off and we suck again next year the university can fire him. Our AD is one of the richest in America and we have a ton of donors who would be happy to pony up.
November 8th, 2020 at 2:57 PM ^
Agree. The idea that money is even remotely a factor here is completely ridiculous.
November 8th, 2020 at 2:59 PM ^
Well, we can state that if an extension is signed, 13 of the 14 B1G fanbases will be thrilled.
November 8th, 2020 at 3:03 PM ^
Nah, other than the weird COVID year Harbaugh has beaten the shit out of most of the B1G. He's not Brady Hoke.
November 8th, 2020 at 3:08 PM ^
Correct. Hoke never lost to Indiana and his teams were very competitive with OSU and beat them once
November 8th, 2020 at 3:10 PM ^
Brady Hoke's tenure wasn't very long ago. Have people already forgotten how bad it was?
November 8th, 2020 at 3:17 PM ^
The people that have forgotten Hokes tenure are people like you who forgot Hoke’s teams competed with OSU every year and didn’t lose to Indiana.
There is little to separate JH from Hoke at the moment.
November 8th, 2020 at 3:21 PM ^
Ah yes it's completely acceptable to turn a trash Rutgers QB into Joe Montana in a loss to Rutgers as long as you "compete with OSU every year." There's a lot to separate JH from Hoke at the moment. You're absolutely kidding yourself.
November 8th, 2020 at 3:27 PM ^
Yes, Hoke turned a trash Rutgers QB into Montana.
JH turned Rocky Lombardi into Tom Brady.
We can do this all day.
Hoke failed. So has Harbaugh.
November 8th, 2020 at 4:10 PM ^
Exactly. At least it was a trash MSU QB that Harbaugh turned into Joe Montana.
November 8th, 2020 at 6:05 PM ^
Harbaugh still has an opportunity this year to turn a Rutgers QB into Joe Montanya.
November 8th, 2020 at 3:26 PM ^
I can't believe I'm debating whether Brady Hoke was as good as Harbaugh. This is really stupid.
Yes, Brady did a great job of beating the worst Ohio State team in 32 years thanks to Braxton Miller missing wide open receivers streaking down the field in the 4th quarter. He also gets some credit for putting up a fight against Meyer in his first two years before getting pantsed in his third.
November 8th, 2020 at 5:15 PM ^
If Hoke doesn't get credit for beating OSU because, crappy, does that mean Michigan never lost to OSU during the RRod/Hoke years?
November 8th, 2020 at 3:33 PM ^
In case folks need a reminder, Hoke’s win totals were 11, 8, 7, and 5. The trend was obvious.
Harbaugh’s win totals are 10, 10, 8, 10, and 9. Prior to this season, Harbaugh’s worst season matched Brady’s 2nd best.
Is that enough for Jim to get a mulligan on this season? Only Warde knows for sure, but I bet there will be some changes made on the coaching staff and the recruiting department.
November 8th, 2020 at 3:35 PM ^
Yeah, I think we probably see some major shakeups on defense/recruiting after this. He's not going anywhere after this year unless he decides to leave.
