We choose to think that the site banner was inviolable and not that Vancouver couldn't free up an NHL slot for him. Hughes's return is obviously a big deal; getting a top-ten pick who played in the World Championships and was the best player on the ice in just about every game down the stretch is a massive W. Hughes's rate of improvement and number of near misses late last year should mean a Hobey-level campaign is in the offing.
This news was only made better by the fact that I was in town, sitting at the Brown Jug, when I got it.
That's Hughes for Michigan! Pumped for hockey, and all 4 major sports next year! Go BLUE
SWEET!!!!!
I thought he'd be gone, then Vancouver decided they didn't have room for him. Huh... GOOD!!!
Excellent news to start the weekend!
Great news. Hopefully there isn't some undeserving Ivy League guy next year to steal his Hobey.
Smells like a Mighty Quinn POSBANG to me!
Go Blue!

...MY SON RETURNS
GREAT News. Go Blue.
Great news. Looking forward to the season. Go Blue!
Buccigross on Twitter seems to think this means Michigan will be preseason top 5 next season. That seems a tad optimistic, no?
Obviously fantastic news. He was and will be our best player by some distance. If he had left, this season would be a slog; it's still going to take work to replace the considerably production we've lost, since his brother wasn't able to accelerate his schooling.
But he is going to be tons of fun. And yes, given the attention he already has, I think a Hobey run is a real possibility, especially if the team can equal last year's performance.
I just renewed my season tickets, so it’s the least he could do . . .
Nice - looking forward to continuing kicking ass in hockey. Last season was a pleasant surprise.
The headline thrilled me...the details of the post were a fantastic letdown: "We choose to think that the site banner was inviolable"
PLEASE CHANGE THE ROBOTS. It's like a fork to the eyes every site visit.
