Let us now praise Derrick Walton
January 25th, 2014 at 10:09 PM ^
For a 69% free thrower he was absolutely clutch down the stretch.
January 25th, 2014 at 10:15 PM ^
69%!?
What he did tonight was Rumeal Robinson to the third power. Or so. That was a clutch performance. CLUTCH!
Clutch!Clutch!Clutch!
So yeah, high praise to you, Derrick Walton!
January 26th, 2014 at 12:06 AM ^
Well, that should rise. He was 90 percent tonight!
January 26th, 2014 at 8:55 AM ^
That 69% meant/means very little. Loooowww sample size.

A freshman coming through with clutch free throws like that, especially in such a tense rivalry game, is incredibly promising! I think this game is a real turning point in his career here, can't give him enough props for coming though when it counted!
January 25th, 2014 at 10:21 PM ^
in his veins, hitting like that from the FT line with the game ticcking down. WOW!
Played a good game overall everywhere on the floor. Very VERY impressive stepping up like he did in the national spotlight!

He's the next one up in a long line of good Michigan point guards starting with Manny.
January 25th, 2014 at 10:16 PM ^
This just makes me think:
SO MUCH praise is due to the assistant coaching staff that has helped to develop so many PGs over the recent years.
We don't hit on so many winners by accident, the coaches deserve a lot of props for the progression they've helped to nurture.
January 25th, 2014 at 10:24 PM ^
This is one of those good problems to have, but:
Gotta assume mid majors or lower major conference teams are going to start trying to poach those guys.
January 26th, 2014 at 3:16 AM ^
Manny wasn't a point guard.
January 25th, 2014 at 10:10 PM ^
Walton is cool. That is the most coherent thought I can muster at the moment.
January 25th, 2014 at 10:10 PM ^
Yeah, was happy to see him get the ball at the end. Clutch play.

FTs had been one of his biggest struggles and he sunk them like a seasoned vet. Even his one miss worked out great, because it bounced high in the air an a bumbling MSU big man wasted at least two seconds trying to figure out what to do with it.
January 25th, 2014 at 10:12 PM ^
Great game for him, and excellent to see him stepping it up after some struggles earlier in the year. We need him to keep it up to make a run this year.

I said that he just needs time to develope and he will only get that by playing.
The only thing that I have been on him about is his late game free throw shooting. But, he was money tonight. Great way to step up.
January 25th, 2014 at 10:14 PM ^
He was incredible tonight. Its amazing to see his progression from the beginning of the season. He is so much more confidently aggressive and poised out there.
January 25th, 2014 at 10:14 PM ^
Super clutch FT at the end, great floor leadership all game, some key field goals as well - all in a very tough environemtn that usually swallows freshman.
Can I get a shout out for Coach Jordan too? His development of guards at UM has been nothing short of amazing.

Kudos to Walton and Beilein. Walton showed such a toughness tonight and kudos to Beilein for finding kids with the passion to be great. From the Burke, Walton, Stauskas, workout videos you can tell the caliber and toughness of player that Beilein recruits. Great job Walton and Go Blue, Go 2014

Someone different everynight for this team. Stauskas is the alpha-dog. Then it is a revolving door of next man up. I love this team.
January 25th, 2014 at 10:20 PM ^
Walton was huge today....but I still love my Spike
January 25th, 2014 at 10:20 PM ^
tournaments. He was cluctch. As always I feel you have to commend the whole team and Beilein because they pull it together when times get tough. The signs of a great team.

is the way that players develop on their watch. They improve game to game, and season to season.

I don't think so.

Walton's play wasn't lost on Beilein. Walton got the honor of leading the team post-game in the Victors.

It's great seeing these kids mature and develop through the course of the season. Walton played great and deserves a lot of praise!
January 25th, 2014 at 10:26 PM ^
By himself, Walton had a 71.43% effective FG percentage amd was clutch with 9 out of 10 from the old charity stripe. An excellent performance indeed, as Walton, Morgan and LeVert accounted for over half of all rebounds as well (Walton contributed 5 of them, all defensive). The story begins there, but overall his performance is definitely praiseworthy.

its fun watching walton grow game to game. i didnt think this game was great by him... until the ft's. damn impressive.
and credit to beilein. he's grooming this kid perfectly. spike is a really good backup. but this team's highest ceiling is with the stud recruit.
next one up is irvin. i thought he was close after the minny game. we need him to find a groove.

Irvin is coming along nicely. He'll be ready by tournament time.
January 25th, 2014 at 10:36 PM ^
I was so excited for Derrick to become a Wolverine, and very anxious to see how he would hold up under the pressure of following Trey Burke. I have been so impressed with how he has improved during the course of the season, and tonight was huge for him!!!
January 25th, 2014 at 10:37 PM ^
Walton is growing by leaps and bounds seemingly every game. Its great to see everyone on this team sharing the load from game to game.
