They fired a personnel guy this week who was close with Chip. A lot of people viewed that as first sign of a power struggle between Kelly and the GM. Can't imagine why the organization would side with the GM in that situation but apparently that's how NFL franchises operate these days.
Next coach needs to know who he will be working for. By all accounts Hacket is an AD that top coaches would be happy to work with. And he seems intelligent enough to have learned from Brandon's mistakes.
I guarantee if you pick up a different kicker every week based off the match-ups (if you evaluate them intelligently or use a website that does), you will end up in the upper echelon in your league in terms of kicker points. Even if you knew what the kicker rankings would look like at the end of the year before you draft-which you don't-streaming would still be the preferred option. It's not about a top kicker compared to other kickers. It's about a top kicker compared to a sound week by week strategy plus being able to draft a player at a position with more performance variation who could win you your league.
The problem isn't that hoke chooses not to wear a headset. It's that, if he did, he probably wouldn't have much to contribute. The one area where you would think this may be untrue is special teams, but Hoke has proven inept in that area as well based on our general anti-intellectual approach to that phase of the game.
In the espn article on Harbaugh, I was struck by him saying that you really can't afford to have any bad coaches on your entire staff, and that's why he has such a history of turnover with his position coaches. This philosophy contrasts sharply to Hoke's loyalty to his staff, and seems like a better way to operate. Bacon is really the only voice out there that gives me any hope there's a chance we get one of these guys. Most other signs point to them staying in the NFL, but he's quite credible so it's hard to know what to think.
in theory-a world in which the head coach has no offensive background, and one in which there is a position group with historically poor performance, could be such a world.
I live in Austin. It takes me about 7 minutes to get to work. If you base where you live even a little bit on where you work, you can avoid most traffic issues. Even if you do have to deal with a little traffic, your commute will likely be not as long as if you lived in another major city and walked to the subway etc. You could consider renting for a year to get your bearings before buying a house that you know would give you an easier driving situation.
Everything else is pretty ideal. I am not a big music lover but everyone likes great food. I really can't imagine living in Austin and not enjoying it.

Funchess has plenty of speed and is a potentially devastating vertical threat, we just (inexplicably) rarely use him in that capacity.

My experience is 2-4, and 0-2 against two middling teams in a terrible conference.

Not that it really matters, but they are not nearly as good as they were several years ago. They went 4-8 last year.
