Thank you coach Harbaugh!

Thank you coach Harbaugh!

The Rich Rod and Hoke years had me at state where I actually dreaded game days. I’m too much of a fan to ever miss watching a game, but I certainly wasn’t enjoying watching my team play so poorly week in and week out. Immediately upon taking over, you turned the team around. It took a while to get it to the top, but I never watched a game against an inferior opponent expecting the team to find a way to lose. Saturdays were fun again.

Winning the national championship this year was the perfect way to end your run. Good luck in the NFL.

I became a Michigan fan as a kid in the late 70s when I would occasionally watch games with my grandmother. Growing up on a farm in northern Michigan, Saturdays were mostly working days, but we would occasionally catch the games toward the end of the season when the weather had turned and there was less work to be done. It was when I became a student at Michigan in the early 90s that my fandom really took off. I’ve been a diehard since.

In 2003, I ended up relocating to Columbus for a job. What a miserable time to be a Michigan fan living in central Ohio. I liken it to living in the 3rd ring of hell. Watching the team decline in the later Carr years only to see it disintegrate under Rich Rod and flounder under Hoke while living here during one of the best runs our hated rival has ever seen was a living nightmare. My fandom was sorely tested. There were times when I almost stopped watching…  almost. I stuck with it though. Always clinging to whatever shred of hope I could. Finally, Harbaugh was hired, and I thought I saw a flicker of light at the end of the long dark tunnel.

Harbaugh quickly got the team back to a measure of respectability. The team stopped losing to opponents they had no business losing to. But he didn’t seem capable of taking that next step. OSU was simply too strong and had us under their thumb. Then 2020 happened and I began to wonder if the flicker of light was an oncoming train rather than salvation. I wasn’t quite at the point of wanting Harbaugh gone after that season, but it was more out of a thinking of “who would we get that would be better” rather than belief that he could finish the job. I am so glad no rash moves were made.

This last three years has been awesome, and it has only been made sweeter living where I do and hearing the lamentation of the OSU fans. I honestly didn’t think I would ever see a Michigan team better than the 1997 team, but these guys, this year… team 144… are nothing short of amazing. It is absolutely true that nobody has it better than us.

GO BLUE!!!!!  HAIL TO THE VICTORS!!!!

I've been a Michigan fan for as long as I can remember. At 51, I vaguely remember the teams of the late 70s, so that is my frame of reference. To me, the 97 championship team was the best Michigan team I've witnessed, until this season. This team was truly special.
