They want a "Beaver Man" coaching the Beavers.

It's all about the work in the trenches.

A hire involving a major coaching change from the B1G? I have no idea.
December 10th, 2014 at 5:23 PM ^
Ed Orgeron. And they'll rename the school Orgeron State.
December 10th, 2014 at 5:24 PM ^
Hoke wouldn't exactly be a shocking hire given that he was an assistant there for five years.
December 10th, 2014 at 5:24 PM ^
December 10th, 2014 at 5:25 PM ^
What. The. Fuck.
Oregon State just swiped Wisconsin's coach.
Pelini to Wisconsin?
December 10th, 2014 at 5:27 PM ^
What is it about Wisconsin that makes their coaches want to leave for middle of the pack programs in other leagues? First Bielema, now Andersen.
December 10th, 2014 at 5:29 PM ^
Alvarez
December 10th, 2014 at 5:39 PM ^
Because it makes sense. I can't see why two coaches would leave a solid program in a good town for lower-level schools in other conferences
December 10th, 2014 at 5:45 PM ^
I thought there were rumors that Alvarez and Beilema butted heads, but really it's the most logical arguement to make at this point.
December 10th, 2014 at 11:01 PM ^
That they just get sick of fat chicks that smell like cheap beer farts and brat breath?
December 11th, 2014 at 12:56 AM ^
Bret is not a chick.
December 11th, 2014 at 8:25 AM ^
because Alvarez wouldn't pay them. That could always be an issue when you promote a football coach to AD. He might have strong ideas about what coaches should be paid based on his own experience, rather than the current landscape.
December 10th, 2014 at 5:30 PM ^
Barry Alvarez?! Legitimate question. Maybe it sucks up (over) there under him.
December 10th, 2014 at 5:56 PM ^
Now they have to hate another guy!

Oregon State??
WTF??
Something is really rotten in Madison.
December 10th, 2014 at 5:25 PM ^
This is indeed shocking. Narduzzi or Herman to Wiscy? Maybe Bo?
December 10th, 2014 at 5:26 PM ^
December 10th, 2014 at 5:26 PM ^
This makes none of the sense.

Everyone on campus (OSU) is talking about it lol. Some AD guys leaked it before the 1:30pm announcement of the football facility renovations.

Urban Meyer to Wisconsin
He loves cheese curds and the Wisconsin Dells
no wait, that's me. I like those things.
December 10th, 2014 at 5:27 PM ^
He lived his entire life out there until going to Wisconsin.
December 10th, 2014 at 5:30 PM ^
Yeah, but Utah (where he's lived most of his life) and Oregon aren't that similar.
December 10th, 2014 at 5:41 PM ^
Utah St is to Oregon St as Georgia Tech is to Michigan. I lived most of my life in Michigan but I wouldn't move to Atlanta because I am home sick.
December 11th, 2014 at 3:24 AM ^
ehhhh
the western half the of the country is different then the east in this way. If you drew a line from California's southern border, you'd hit South Carolina while it's northern border would hit New Jersey. When your political units operate on that level of scale, your whole concept of "closeness" becomes shifted. Regional subcultures out there are far less defined... there's more of a general sense of "westerness", anywhere with dramatic mountain vistas be they in a desert or a rainforest can feel like home. Parts of Colorado are closer to Michigan than they are to the coast and yet the average Coloradan likely feels far more affinity with a Californian than a Michigander, meanwhile the Michigander is unlikely to have much in common a New Yorker in spite of being geographic near-neighbors.
One of the things that ties the west together, and which might go a ways in explaining Gary Andersen's decision, is LDS presence. Oregon has 7 times the number of Mormons Wisconsin does in spite of having a far smaller population. Hell, Corvallis (pop. 55,000) has the same number of LDS churches as Madison (pop. 250,000). Cultural fit, blahblahblah
December 10th, 2014 at 5:27 PM ^
That is legitimately shocking.

UM is a better job than Wisconsin. Whomever Wisconsin will probably someone UM already rejected or wasn't much interested in in the first place.
December 10th, 2014 at 6:02 PM ^
Thing is, Wisconsin knows that just as much as we do, and they might have timing on their side. If they've got a few candidates that a relatively even in their eyes, they might give an offer with a deadline attached that might be problematic give our (Harbaugh) timeline. Not that this would work, and I'm sure they wouldn't do this to a candidate high on our board. But if you were the OC at Ohio State and Wisconsin gave you an exploding offer while U of M said "wait til we hear from Harbaugh in January" you'd certainly have to think about it.
December 10th, 2014 at 8:25 PM ^
Not sure why you got negged. I think this is a legit point.

And given what's happened in Ann Arbor during the last 7-8 years, they could be right.
Also, Wisconsin has a well-established football identity (Big, NFL caliber, O-line, elite RB, etc.). Michigan doesn't really have one at this point.
December 10th, 2014 at 7:51 PM ^
December 10th, 2014 at 6:19 PM ^
Wisconsin isn't going to pay more than about $2M per year for a Head Coach. I don't really see us competing much with them this time around.
December 10th, 2014 at 5:35 PM ^
Now that's a shocker!!
December 10th, 2014 at 5:29 PM ^
Well, I will say that I would not have expected Gary Andersen to leave Wisconsin any time soon, and especially not for Oregon State. That is pretty shocking.
Someone mentioned Pelini above - I thought it had been reported that he took the Youngstown State job, which if true nullifies the prospect of Wisconsin making their game with Nebraska a rivalry via an epic troll move in hiring Pelini.

The (filthy rich) Big Ten's current 2nd best program just got their coach poached by the worst football school in the Pac 12. Zing
December 10th, 2014 at 5:42 PM ^
Twice in 3 years.
Big Ten!
