Totally why I love this guy. Such a decent person and awesome coach. Earlier this week in a thread I got semi accused of being “racist” because I said he was articulate. Are you frickin kidding me? I love this guy! Not only a great basketball mind that will be huge for M basketball in the years to come but also a guy whom I’d love my grandkids to idolize. Go Blue, Go Blue B-ball and Go Juwan!

that showed such a depth of character, gratitude, and humility.  as much as i loved beilein and was sorry he went, folks, i'd say we are in every bit as good of hands now with juwan.

Beilein rebuilt the program from ashes and will be forever held in the highest esteem for his character and leadership.

Juwan has the potential to take Michigan Basketball to to the most elite level.  And he also brings with him the highest character and leadership.

Dang we got lucky.

It's been vocalized by the people he's contacted during recruiting also. Numerous recruits or parents have expressed similar. Just the other day we read Josh Christopher stating

“Juwan is just a great dude,” Christopher said. “I think he is a real selfless person. He doesn’t have to be like that. He’s just a great person..."

I feel same and think we are lucky he's returned. He's just class in every way.

Juwan's demeanor and attitude is what draws me in.  He is level headed, respectful and thoughtful in interviews.  He always brings a bright smile, even during timeouts talking to the team while in tense in-game moments.  And he is showing a strong hand and discipline, i.e. in his handling of Simpson.  Icing on the cake...he is recruiting like a champ.  Yeah, I like Juwan.

There is a sentiment here on the blog that the reason Juwan is in on all these 5 star guys is that he's doling out money, but interviews like this suggest to me that the players and their families buy into him as a person and as a coach. He is genuine and real, both as a person and a coach, and it's easy to buy into that.

He reminds me of a statement that has stuck with me ever since I heard it; if you want to increase the joy in your life, start by increasing your gratitude...

Juwan always seems so positive but also genuine and genuinely grateful for everything he's been blessed with. No doubt that's a big key to his recruiting success. Just a really great dude.

Juwan is just that dude who is cool as fuck without trying to be cool. I've always looked up to guys like that in HS, College, Work, etc.

He's genuine, and it works for him. You can see why he's been so popular with his Fab Five mates, NBA teammates, on down to recruits. He's just Juwan. Whether he's getting roasted in front of a crowd by LeBron and DWade for doing the cabbage patch, seeking out Jalen after winning a championship to share his celebration, crying while accepting his dream job, dancing for the team after winning in Atlantis, or wearing his heart on his sleeve at a run-of-the-mill press conference on a Friday afternoon. He's not afraid to show his emotions, poke fun at himself, or light a fire under somebody. He seems like a good dude, and I hope it's all real (I really think it is) -- college basketball is severally lacking when it comes to genuine coaches.

Its real, all of it.  You cannot fake everything he's done, how he's acted, his demeanor.  You can't fake all of that, all the time, in front of millions, without being called on it.  And there is not one reference to fakeness - not a single one throughout his entire life.  You can't fake that...

When JB decided to leave I never thought we could find another high-character coach like him, incredibly I think we upgraded.  I am confident that on-court success is imminent.  I am ready to enjoy the ride!

putin,

pretty sure you were just having fun, but a serious response to that idea of him leaving is this:  as near as a distant fan like me can tell, juwan has a much different heart about what might 'lure' him anywhere besides/beyond michigan, and in that way i think he is very much like our other JH, harbaugh.  of course troubles could come and all of that, but assuming he does well (and that is a fairly safe assumption), he isn't going anywhere any time soon.  he won't want to.  he won't need the money.  he'll be beloved and 'home'.   could he get lured to the NBA?  sure, maybe even by the guys he's been friends with over the years, but that will be a tough one to pull off for them.

Lots of coaches end up being journeymen, as do many people who have professional jobs, but with coaching there is an opportunity for legacy that most of us don’t get.  How could would it be if you were Bo Schembechler, Bear Bryant, or (before Sandusky) Joe Paterno?  To have shaped the lives of hundreds of players and to be deified by a fan base for making their “brand” stand for integrity and winning.  Not many people get statues.

Juwan is the realest coach in college basketball, which is something that is rare. And it's because of that, his honesty and his background that he should be able to connect with recruits on a deeper level, because he's lived what some of them going through.

And here's an example of some piece of shit Spartans showing the other side of the coin. (Contrapositive?)

Instead of "articulate = good", it's "non-articulate = bad". Which tends to imply "the way black people speak = idiot".

“Using articulate to describe black people is racist”.  What a misinformed, simple-minded, #outrage culture opinion.

I actually think articulate is a great way to describe Howard, the individual person (believe it or not, in addition to being part of the monolithic group you define as ‘black people’, he’s also a single person with distinct qualities).  You can tell that he’s a fluid and comfortable communicator, who is careful and deliberate about the way he chooses his words. He’s much more articulate than Beilein is, in fact.

this is the definition of an internet argument. dismiss the author by calling him "misinformed" and "simple-minded" because you disagree with him.

i'll never understand why people are so eager to attack the ideology of those who are trying to stick up for those who either a) don't have a voice or b) are tired of having to stick for themselves over and over again.

I love this guy. I don’t care how emotional he is, he has all the attributes of a great person and someone who genuinely feels grateful for their life and their position in it, and all I ever hear him talking about is how he can give back and enrich the lives of others through his success.

also, his hands are huge wrapped around that tiny bottle
