What recruiting rankings do you use?

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Am curious to see if the board has a consensus on what recruiting rankings they use.

I've always used Rivals even though I signed up with Scout today so I could read Sam's stuff.

ESPN is really lazy to me with theirs. Their team sites went under a couple years ago, which speaks volumes of what others think of their rankings/insider info. I do like Tom, though.

247 seems to be my current go to site for ranking.  I do check rivals from time to time.

I know there are Magnus haters here, but I like to see what Magnus thinks and hears from his grapevine.  I'm open to opinions and his has value to me.

247. Its still a crap shoot though. Ive seen way too many high rated busts and low rated stars to put much stock in them.

but the other sites do not suffer from their share of busts or bad calls?

im guessing all the sites ranked will campbell, shane morris, etc fairly high while dudes like jj watt and marcus martiota were ranked much lower (i just randomly picked those guys).  its just the name of the game.

the compositive rankings are most logical

I wasnt distinguishing between the relative rating accuracy of the various sites. I was stating which site I use with the additional comment that I dont put much stock in the actual rating for the reasons stated. I mainly use them to see who has offers from where, the players' measurables and stats, and their highlight videos.

BUT, recently 247 added automatically playing hudl videos, and it drives me crazy. Auto-play is an almost unforgivable internet sin, and must be met with swift derision.

Especially at work.  Every click is a potential landmine.  I keep my speaker off, but sometimes I forget after listening to something.

Some of the more complicated sites like CNN, you can't even tell where the noise is coming from.  You scroll all over the place in a panic and finally find it in some lower left corner at the bottom of the site that you did not even know waas there.

I host nfl combine style satelite camps in talent rich sections of the south where I draw the best talents and personally evaulate them in head to head competition. None of that candy ass recruiting websites for me.

1. Add up the total number of letters in the recruit's name and divide by Avogadro's Number 2. Imagine what Ace Williams would say and turn it upside down 3. Goat entrails

I tend to go with Rivals, unless they are a far outlier compared to the others.  That said I give far more weight to the coaches. I enjoy watching opponents twist in the wind when we "win" a recruiting battle for a highly sought after 4 or 5 star, but I know that it's far more important that the ciaches get the guys they  want for their system.

The least among the D-1 head coaches have forgotten more about recruiting than 99% of fans. We are lucky here to have input from various coaches, but the rest of us really don't have a clue about the ins and outs of recruiting.

At least for me, because of the trending charts that I built for tracking average rankings, I tend to use Rivals simply because it is easy to compile such averages. Well, at least for the method that I developed it is. What I would be interested to explore is how the services trend with each other, and I started to get that data from 247 to fill out another diary.

I put the most weight in the 247 composite rankings. I am ashamed to admit it but I always secretly check ESPN after Michigan gets a commit because they are the worldwide leader in sports (sadly) and I want their validation (low self esteem). That being said, ESPN is absolutely terrible at tracking recruiting, but I love me some TVH.

Scout. Rivals is to SEC biased for me. They only talk about that conference etc: hate them for that, and they always give Michigan shit w whoever commits to them.

At this point I just don't care anymore. I was lucky enough to go to 7 games during the 1997 season including the Rose Bowl. I just want to see Michigan kick ass again.

I prefer Rivals. I am a big fan of Sam so that's what Scout has going for it. Composite is a good tool too. ESPN is really bad for football but I think it's best for bball recruiting

I never much care, but I guess I like Rivals' search capability.  But again, I really don't care unless I need to find a reference to some player from the RR era.
