We survived MSU’s best team for the foreseeable future…

Submitted by bballislife22 on

… and we didn’t just survive, we had the better season!!!

Now that they are out, let’s be honest with ourselves. MSU had a VERY talented team this year. Appling, Harris, Dawson, and Payne are all great players. Do they have flaws? Yes. But they were very good.

Yes, MSU did have injury problems this year. Lots of them. But so did we. Maybe not as many, but stuff happens, man. Injuries happen the same as players leaving early for the draft happens (Morris, Burke, Hardaway).

Instead of focusing on MSU’s misfortunes. Let’s look at what this says about our program. We just successfully took MSU’s best shot, and beat them. We won the regular season by 3 whole games. We beat them head to head 2 to 1. We made it just as far, if not further (#BeatKentucky), than them in the tournament. What a fantastic job by Beilein, the rest of the coaching staff, and of course all of the players to take this program where it is today. The tide in this rivalry has officially shifted. No longer are the days when we were terrified of playing at Breslin. No longer are the days where we hoped, PRAYED, for a season split in the series. No longer are the days when we watch Izzo lead his team deep in to March, while we either exited in the first round or didn’t make it at all. Those days are over.

Sparked by Stu’s three pointer on the right wing as the shot clock was winding down, sparked by Draymond missing a floater in the lane as time expired, sparked by Darius Morris shouting, “Get the F%$@ off my court”, sparked by Trey picking Appling’s pocket, and sparked by DEATH FROM ABOVE, a new era has begun.

Time to enjoy it.

EDIT: Mods feel free to delete and replace with a more generic one if you want.

The OP obsesses way too much about Michigan State.

The day of a Michigan Elite Eight game and you're worried about Sparty.  How Sparty of you.

I think state had some creepy dudes that were just straight up bad people on this team. Fortunately for them they will be leaving the team after this year. I think izzo will continue to do what he does, win, cry, bitch. I wouldn't have him any other way.

So if no one leaves early from MSU, they will have Trice, Harris, Valentine, Dawson, Costello that is a pretty smooth starting five, and looks even better if McGary, GR3, and Stauskas leave early.

Right?

However, Burke, Stauskas, Levert, GR3, McGary would be a fun team to watch next year.

Sparty relied heavily on two players who would never have spent a second in a Sparty uni if Tom Izzo was the least bit ethical.  They finally lose both and they should lose Harris to the NBA.  Most of all, now is the perfect time for Izzo to take the inevitable Tom Gores offer that comes after the NBA season is over.

is one of the most overrated players I can remember.  4 years into his career he still makes terrible decisions on offense and defense and gets his pocket picked by being lazy.

For next year, Sparty just won't have much of a bench.  If Harris returns they actually might be an ok team.

UM is still not quite on MSUs level overall. We've made swift progress but we have one out right title and a final four. Lots more winning to do for is to pass them. I hate St as much as you guys do but am objective enough to see their run of success put them in a different place. We are getting closer, and beating them head to head feels sweet. A few more years of this and hopefully a NC title will truly set us apart from sparty

Man, I can't believe how many people feel sorry for Payne and, especially, Appling. We go nuts (rightfully so) when our own player is involved in CSC allegations, but they're given a free pass? I'm not saying they're guilty, but why you'd feel bad for them of all people is beyond me. At least Payne has some mitigating factors with his lung condition and all he does for the girl with cancer, but Appling? Wow.

I can't understand why saying we had a better year than state (and having a brighter future) commands so many downvotes and upset Michigan "fans". Hell, I had a thread deleted after the Big Ten Title game by stating the a similar thing.
