Way OT: Lou Holtz compares college football players to the troops at Normandy.
First, a little trigger warning: This Twitter user (Justin Baragona) is a Daily Beast founder.
In this video, Lou Holtz makes a comparison between college football players and the troops at Normandy (just shy of the 1:00 mark):

What are the Thought Police saying? Are we taking any organized action to ensure he conforms? /s

It does seem like his political philosophy has shifted to be more conservative over the past 20 years. Probably why some on here don't like him now. Though comparing the college students playing football to the D day invasion is way off the deep end.

"It does seem like his political philosophy has shifted to be more conservative over the past 20 years."
Not really—Holtz has been a contributor to Republican politicians going all the way back to the early '80s when he recorded endorsements of Jesse Helms while Helms was leading the opposition to the establishment of MLK Day as a national holiday.

I don't see any Thought Police here. I see lots of justified shots at Holtz's dumb comparison.
Nice try, though. You keep on being brave.

The fact that your profile picture is a screenshot of a photo you saved to your camera roll provides just the right amount of context for this comment.

The Witch-king of Angmar

Well, one could argue it's progress.
Holtz made a WW II reference, but he didn't mention Hitler and his leadership style this time (like he did in 2008).

Lou remembers D Day as if it were yesterday.

I disagree very strongly on one very important distinction that makes this comparison ludicrously inapt: the soldiers who stormed Normandy were paid professionals.

very poorly paid, in fact

True. Although $50 a month went a lot further then than now.

I was in from '88 thru '91 and as I recall pay like 1,200/month. Being in maintenance, we typically worked a lot of hours. I believe we calculated something around $4/hour (granted meals, gym membership and housing were also paid for, as well as 30 days vacation a year, but there no 8 hour days either)

We've been sitting and listening to these anachronistic assh*les for decades and still haven't figured out how reactionary and ill-spoken most of them are?
