UPDATE: Official Soccer Announcement. UM Athletics Press Conference at 11AM
Just saw this on twitter; UM will be having a press conference at 11AM. Entirely unsure what the topic will be. They did not announce they'd be having one until 10:35AM.
UPDATE: Yup, you all were right. Soccer game officially has been announced this summer.

Did they have a press conference last year about that? I thought they just sent out an announcement.

That sweet, sweet Abu Dhabi money (EPL TV money too) in addition to the chance to play under Guardiola will be enough to lure a lot of signees.

will probably be missing from these games. With Copa America and the European Cup taking place in June into early July this summer, I'm guessing most of the bigger name players are going to want a little RnR before league play starts up.

Wonder if those players choose Champions League soccer over possible higher wages if Chelsea, Man U or Liverpool come after them. Leicester is entertaining, so hopefully they get at least 1 more year with that squad.

I had thought there was some buzz about this a few days ago, but it probably was buried somewhere in the tournament threads - the last half of the week in any given week in March is a terrible time to make announcements around here. Well, if you're announcing something unpopular, then it is an awesome time to make the announcement.
Either way, there's someone here in this building with their Chelsea gear up in celebration, so that's how I was reminded anyway.

For fuck's sake it's a British term... stop saying stop saying soccer.

Every time some ninny in a Man U jersey tells me "It's not soccer. It's football" or complains about how we call American football "football" it makes me want to say it wrong all the more.

Green Street Hooligans is just one of my favorite movies and I'm often reminded of that scene. Highly recomend the movie.

Anyone who has paid attention to these ICC matches before: are the starting 11 generally close to that of a normal league match? I don't expect Ronaldo to go a full 90 or anything, but don't want to see a field full of reserves out there either.
March 24th, 2016 at 12:49 PM ^
Hard to tell. When the Big House hosted Man United vs. Real Madrid a few years ago, Christiano Ronaldo, Bale, Wayne Rooney, etc. all played. Usually, I would expect to see a lot of the 1st teamers, but I wouldn't expect them to go the full 90, but with Euro 2016 this summer, players may sit out more of the club friendlies.
March 24th, 2016 at 12:59 PM ^
Yeah, Euro2016 is a huge deal. Most European-based players won't be playing at all.
Euro finals are July 10th (Copa ends June 26th), so there's a chance some of the stars will play.
That being said, as this is one of the few competitive breaks in the year for most players, I wouldn't expect a full 90 from everyone. Mostly fringe players and those working back into starting rotation.

Any idea how much tickets will cost?
I wonder how Harbaugh will turn this into an event where he gets major publicity. (In that I'm looking forward to him doing so.)
BTW, for those who are USMNT fans as well, Matt Miazga is exactly the type of player that sees time in these games. He's one of the brightest young American talents in the world, so hopefully he's healthy and in the mix for this game (He plays for Chelsea).
Good call, I forgot he was on Chelsea. You would hope on this trip Chelsea wouuld make it a point to give him some time on his home soil.
Another 95-minute, 1-0 thriller!
Played with many backup players.
