U-M Hockey vs MN - Wednesday Open Thread
Bordeleau, Beniers, Brisson, Beecher & York: miss you guys.
We sure could use some puck luck tonight. Had some early pressure last night, but hit the post. Scoring first would be nice.

Slashing on them.
Good on Copp, paid for a bunch of Wolverines in the NHL cutouts for the stands.

Figured tonight was going to be like this and this series would be a sweep with four forwards out. Minnesota is the best team in the conference by a decent margin and basically already won the conference barring a collapse. Pearson quitting on the game last night by not pulling the goalie was the most unexpected thing of the series. I don't remember seeing a coach do that before.
Bad start to the season, but hopefully we can get better as the year goes on and sneak into the tournament.

Game mercifully over, 4-0 them.

At least Portillo didn't allow any goals? Although I don't recall any really challenging shots.

1-5 in their last 6 games, Mel needs to figure out a way to start strong in a season. Granted this series they were down 5 of their top 6 or 7 players (and of course they were playing Minny this weekend)
Minny was CLEARLY the better team, but if i read the stats right, the PP"s were 9-1 in favor of minny or something like that. Not sure if that was due to Michigan being down their top forwards, Minny just being better, or just an unfavorable whistle this series.

Haven't been able to keep up with sports the last few weeks.
Why were so many Wolverines out for this series?
UM looked good against a good Badgers team a couple weeks ago, but I see the Ls piling up - any insights into what is going on?

USA World Juniors camp is being held. Previously it was going to be after the first half of BTH season, but then it got moved up. MN had 3 dmen called up, but it didn't affect them as much.
As far as losses: freshmen, even very talented ones, are still freshmen, have to learn to adapt to this level, playing against older men, who could be bigger & stronger as well as more experienced. When ND scores first, they are very disciplined on D and suck the life out of the game. Our team needs to stop taking stupid penalties, because we haven't been too good on the PK.
It's unfortunate that there weren't more nonconf games before getting into the tough BT season.
