Rumors are that the schools couldn't promise to leave the arenas available for up to 3 games this weekend. Ohio State and Wisconsin host high school championships and stuff they were not willing to move, apparently. 

From a competitive standpoint, extra losses for your top teams is not ideal for NCAA tournament seeding - for example, if PSU lost two to ND this weekend it might knock them out of the tournament, but one loss isn't so difficult to handle. FWIW I think all other conferences are single elimination for the semis and finals (so most are happening next weekend).

I think the ideal setup would be to have quarterfinals as they are but have semis and finals in one weekend at the #1 seed's home ice. That way teams don't have so few games the weekends before the tournament.

That Joshua guy is from Michigan too. Actually quite a few Michiganders on their roster unfortunately. I played in net at an organized drop in at Farmington over Christmas and one of the OSU freshmen from nearby was on the other team...it wasn't pretty.
