Tressel says OH recruits to leave OH "not significant"
Tressel says UM is "a ways away" from OH's level. I do think JH will need time to go undefeated in the B1G and compete for NCs, but Tressel also said the OH recruiting door has been closed and remains closed, and that those who have left have not been significant.
Composite top-10 OH recruits: 2012 Bolden, Kalis, Wormley, Wilson...2013 Thomas, Charlton, McCray, Butt. Throw in Henry, Gedeon, Smith and all the others and it's time to be significant on November 28.

This block quote is from the paper that shall go linkless for the sanity of this thread.
"The door got closed on the real high majority of any of the Ohio kids leaving Ohio to go there or anywhere else," Tressel said "If you think about some of the tough times we had ... you look at the stars of (Michigan) teams, and those players were from here. That door has closed. If you look back and see what has snuck out of the door, it isn't significant. That door is still closed. If it remains closed, we'll have a real chance to enjoy some of the good successes we've had in that rivalry."
EDIT: 1) this implies Hoke's OH recruits are not significant and 2) implies that the only way for UM to get to OH's level is to beat OH recruiting in OH. I think its time for UMs OH guys to be significant and I don't agree that the only path to an NC is through OH (although, OH is one of the key states with FL, TX, CA...and MI (UM must keep the best).

Darn it Moe. I was hoping we could have a civil conversation with this guy. It seemed like he had a lot of value to contribute and some really progressive ideas.
His idea of all of us having a tea party, wearing princess dresses, and having sex with each other after football games was the best idea this blog has ever seen.
top 5 at least. Sorry about your Mom by the way if she really did die. The comment about him doing things i don't want to repeat to her was disturbing. I know saying sorry when someone dies is dumb. Someone should come up with a better standard line.
Don't know if you're talking about me, but my mother really did pass a few years ago. I was curious to see what his witty rejoinder was going to be, but it's now lost in internet infamy. Talk about a meteoric flameout...
Impermissible benefits, or the opportunity to obtain them, can certainly help in recruiting.
Jim Tressel.
never have. never will.
BTW, thanks for those insignificant heisman's... may we have another?

is that you know all the buckeye faithful and the sparty faithful are responding to the oooh Jim Harbaugh is at Michigan now things are gonna change. Bucky and sparty want to pooh pooh all that and convince themselves nothing's different and mIchigan will continue to struggle. Tressell knows it's not talent but coaching that separates the men from the boys and they can say what they want but you know they are going to watch Harbaugh's every move.

The NCAA took care of that dirt stain on his vest, but not good enough for my liking.
He's arguing that: (a) Michigan's fortunes rise and fall with its ability to recruit Ohio; (b) we haven't gotten as many top recruits from Ohio in the past 10 years as in, say, the preceding 10 years; and (c) that this is because OSU has "locked down the state."
I'm not sure if (a) is quite true, but I'm 100% certain that (b) is. On (c), well, its partially OSU's efforts and partially the fact that we had one coaching staff that didn't make Ohio the priority most others have (while alienating a few important HS coaches) and another that recruited well there but was seeminly unable to develop offensive recruits. Seems like a Michigan coach who does hit the state hard but can develop recruits on both sides of the ball will do just fine there.
But even if Tressel's argument is a bit off, he's hardly heaping scorn on Michigan. Just stating that Harbaugh has a lot of work to do in order to get us to the level OSU is at. And, well, DUH.
