Timeline re: MSU alleged assault info and NSD

Submitted by ypsituckyboy on

Per the Freep's FOIA requests, the timeline was as follows:

Jan 16 - alleged assault occurs

Jan 16 or 17 - alleged assault is reported to police (not clear since they say assault occurred at 2 a.m. and was reported "the next day")

Feb 1 - National Signing Day

Feb 2 - contract is signed to conduct internal Title IX investigation (though investigation may have started prior to that day)

Feb 9 - MSU statement says report of assault was made to police in "late January" (giving impression that action was taken quickly) and Blackwell is suspended

Feb 10 - MSU hires Jones Day to complete investigation of football program compliance with university policy on sexual assault

Feb 16 - MSU sends internal findings of criminal investigation to Ingham County prosecutor

Dunno how I feel. Looks a bit shady, but a few weeks is still pretty quick for an internal investigation.

But how long did it take Dave B. to figure out whether or not Morris had a concussion, or even saw a doctor?

Three weeks does not earn MSU an Olympic Gold medal for speed, but it's not horrible either.

It may just be me, but it didn't seem like much to glean from this. Even a few of the dates weren't concrete or confirmed. To me it seemed like freep just wanted to get something, anything out there before anyone else. The only halfway useful/insightful snippet was the NSD-Blackwell part and even that was connecting dots that may or may not be nefarious.

I agree that there's not a whole lot to this. However, it is a good thing that they are filing FOIA requests and keeping it in the news occasionally. To be honest with you, I had already kind of forgot about it.

It's good to keep pressure on them (both MSU and the prosecutors office) to make sure that nothing is swept under the rug and dealt with properly.

If it goes past their spring game, I'm going to wonder if they would go to that length to investigate non football players. As of now, it seems ok albeit a little shady.

on it until after National Signing Day really helped hold together that stellar recruiting class D'ontarellio put together.

Are you saying they sat on this info for more than 3-9 days so they could make it through signing day?  Preposterous.

Those Sparty away games that are on the same year as Ohio State away games are looking easier and easier by the day.

Thank goodness it's not somebody tough like Maryland.

Honestly, it does seem like they tried to respond as soon as possible. This doesn't seem like a cover up as much as a school, an athletic department, a police force, and all of the affected parties being on their own schedules with their own responsibilities. This is a terrible situation, and at this point people trying to make this about a rivalry should knock it off.

for MSU is the suspension of the accused happened Feb 9. It seems rather far fetched to believe Blackwell/ Dantonio/AD were unaware of the charges for 3.5 weeks since police were notified 1/16. After reading the Baylor accounts of police notifying Briles to enable a "clean up" before anything hit the wire, I am highly skeptical of the delay after Jan 16 and the continued silence by the DA. I doubt the prosecutor has the political fortitude to punish high profile football players in Ingham Co. With the Nassar debacle, MSU certainly wants this issue to disappear.

It will be a cold day in hell before the hammer falls on MSU. If this was Michigan this would be on the front page of the Freep and on ESPN every single day until something happened.
