Thank You Coach Rodriguez

Submitted by Mr. McBlue and… on
I figured with all of the recruiting talk, I would take the road less traveled and thank our coach for a few things. Kind of "homerish" but if McFarlin can get his say on Mike Hart, I can get my word in on RR: 1) Thank you for not taking recruiting lightly and showing some brass on some kids who, otherwise, may end up being stars at Fresno State or Wyoming. 2) Thank you for not leaving any stone unturned. 3) Thank you for recruiting players who fit your system, because, we all know what it is like to have pro-style athletes in an "RR Offense." 4) Thank you for continuing to recruit the same type of kids that made you successful at Glenville, Tulane, Clemson, West Virginia, and shortly U of M. 5) Thank you for using snake oil when it needs to be used. 6) Thank you for bringing up one of the best coaching staffs with you when you came from WVU -- continuity in coaching always helps recruits 7) Thank you for solidifying MI's presence in the south 8) Thank you for bringing in a top tiered recruiting class this past season 9) Thank you for building depth at every position so that we never have a situation again where the cupboard ends up bare before and during a season 9a) Thank you for building that depth with the understanding that not every kid on the team can be a five star and that a depth chart is just that -- a chart 10) Thank you for not changing who you are just because you are the coach at the best school in America

This brings a tear to my eye. Might I add, thank you for bringing in the legend that is known as Barwis. Thank you for feeding him raw red meat marinated in cayene and chili peppers. Thank you for seeing...ahhh sorry guys. I just miss the Barwis reports of being in the woods with the wolves and such. I wonder is AA domesticating him? hmmmm I guess that is post for another time.

7) Thank you for solidifying MI's presence in the south Maybe your talking about the new regime and continuing to feed off the past success of UM in the South and not letting it go anywhere? RR has always had a good presence down there so I expected him to do as well as he has done especially with a block M in the living room.

Other than Denard Robinson, I don't believe any of the other Florida kids from the '09 class were even recruited heavily (if at all) by Miami, FSU, or, Florida. It is quite premature to say that RR has been "much more successful" in recruiting the state of Florida than Lloyd. None of these kids have seen the field yet.

Seriously I'm a huge RR fan and I've been following recruiting for years and frankly I don't get this. I understand getting your players. Fine dandy. But eventually people in the community are going to start questioning your methods when you recruit heavily at a position when you have HUGE needs at other positions. It's crazy.

Call me cynical, but I won't co-sign for what amounts to "thank you for doing your job." Not only does he get paid more than 99.7% of the country to do that job, but every item in your list is something that every good coach will do. When we win, and it becomes clear that his methods work here, I will be grateful and happy that we hired him. Until then I support him, and look forward to this year and next, and that's as far as the relationship should go IMO. I'm not criticizing you, like the optimism, but think the gratitude is misplaced.

thank you coach rod and coach barwis for being raging psychotics that turn our girly recruits into disciplined killing machines of terror.
