Texas Cornerback Jalen Green in the Portal

As said in the header. He seems like an instant take if Michigan can get him to come -- Harbaugh recruited him hard before he committed to Texas.

A bit more about him: https://texassports.com/sports/football/roster/jalen-green/9774

Top 50 composite recruit in the class of 2018, has played in almost every game since stepping on campus, but never became a started on the outside and is leaving with Sark in place. Would be great to get him.

Saying that, I'm sure he's somehow going to wind up on OSU.

Obviously bringing guys in who can improve your team is a good idea, but my understanding from listening to people like Brian and Seth is that Michigan did do a decent job of recruiting some talented CBs, but they were not a good fit for all the man coverage schemes that Brown was running. I.e. DGW, McBurrows, Turner, and Gray all are good players for a zone heavy defense. They also have Seldon, Perry and Dennis. So I don't know, are we really that screwed at CB? Especially since we also have a couple of veteran talented safeties. Seems like we could have a very good secondary next year if the coaching and scheme are done right.

I wish more of those CBs got a chance for live game experience to see what they could do. Since it wouldn’t have cost them eligibility what is the worst that could happen, they get burnt for a deep pass/TD? After it was obvious the season was gonna be a lost cause it would’ve been nice to see a lot of the young guys get in the games

Gemon Green is definitely at least a two. He’s young so he could develop into a 1. But he definitely is good enough to be a 2. Gray a 3 and Seldon a speedy guy who can cover slot dudes. The problem is Michigan needs a 1. If you got Jalen you could probably run it with both Greens and have Gray/Seldon split snaps depending on the situation as the number 3.

I disagree.

Gemon Green is serviceable...but when I look at elite teams, he's not even close unless CB is that team's weakness.

He's passable.

Channing Stribling was a legit #2.

When I say Lewis, Clark, Stribling, Hill, Long, Thomas...Gemon Green ain't touching those guys.

We need NFL level talent.

Gray is a skinny safety or zone CB only. We haven't even seen Seldon because he got COVID.

Going to disagree quite a bit here. Green is every bit where Clark was going into his 3rd season. Clark had 9 pass breakups and 3 ints his entire career. Green had 9 PBUs just this season. Stribling was also essentially right where Green is as well as a CB. Stribling had 22 pbus in his career. 17 of those coming his senior season. So again at this point Green is already at least where Stribling was. Stribling only started 4 games his junior year. Both Clark and Stribling took a while to come on. Clark bounced back and forth between safety and CB and Stribling had no interest in tackling for a while. I don’t think we’re going to agree on this. Both were fringe NFL guys who aren’t In the league anymore. I can easily see Green following that projection.
