I noticed some US Open threads on the board recently, so I thought I’d start a thread…

me:

time in tennis:  1 year (followed tennis for many many years). I was a baseball player and golfer my whole life.

Level: 3.0

#s of times per week on the court: 2-3  (matches/privates/drill)

racquet: Blade V7 16x19; Solinco confidential at 50lbs

I know I’m a newb but have really enjoyed the past year playing

Any other players out there?

Played 25 years.

In HS I was 4.5..

Most notable loss: Michael Redd - I was probably better, but he was (gross understatement) a far better athelete than I. He was ambidextrous,  and I swear with his height, vertical and wingspan there was nowhere to hit but right at him.

Best victory: Cant remember his name but a German international who was ranked. I had no business on the court with him but he foot faulted and I got in his head when he tried adjusting on the fly.

I had a college level serve, but never developed the rest of my game which is why I had no chance at D1.

I play ~1x a week, feeding balls to my kids hoping one day I'll be able to have a doubles game with them and my wife.

Racquet: Wilson Sledge Hammer 3.8 Stretch w/ power holes. I broke racquets routinely in HS and they ended up shipping me free replacements. Eventually got this one and fell in love. I'm up to 8, just bought another from eBay.

Strings: I wish I could play with Babolat RPM Blast 16 Racquet String, but it breaks too easily so I buy whatever kevlar my local stringer can get a good rate on.

I doubt I could play singles anymore... but can rely on serves and net game to suffice in doubles.

Tennis has allowed me to continue to compete in a sport, even as I get older. Give it a try!  I'm early 60's and blessed that all of my joints original equipment and in solid condition. I didn't play much until about 15 years ago when I moved back to MI from CA and needed a Winter sport to augment mountain biking and soccer.  I'm a 4.0 and play 2-3 times a week.
