Stay Classy, Ohio State (McMurphy shares e-mail)

Submitted by MaizeBlueA2 on October 5th, 2021 at 9:04 PM

On my phone so I can't embed the tweet, but someone else can do it if they wish.

Basically, Brett McMurphy of the Action Network (formerly of ESPN), shared an e-mail he received from an Ohio State fan after releasing his bowl projections. Clearly the fan did not agree.

Every fanbase has it's nut (pun intended), but I was going back and forth with someone the other day who was holding OSU fans in really high esteem, when in reality, this type of stuff is far more common with that fanbase than most other non-SEC fanbases around the country.

Nonetheless, it was a nice laugh on a Tuesday.

Tough times for tOSU being the second best college football team in the state of Ohio and everything.  They have to deal with that and now they're former Head of Integrity studies shows up in a bar grinding everything with blonde hair.  A lot to process.

Years back we took our RV and golf cart to a nice resort which is what Ohio refers to as a campground. My golf cart back then had a custom Michigan wrap, this thing was bad ass and looked like something Harbaugh would ride around campus on. Long story short is I had a couple of shirtless sunburnt, overweight buckeye fans harass me and the wife the entire time. Not just friendly banter, the more natty and Busch light they drank the more they wanted to fight. Mind you I also had a the 12 and 4 yr old on the back of the cart.

On sports radio here in Ohio today all they could talk about was how Urban Meyer didn't do anything wrong. According to them, all that happened was a girl danced close to him (never mind his hand placement).

OSU fans are the worst. They think that Hayes was wrongly fired and that Meyer and Tressel were wrongly pushed out. One of the radio guys said, while excusing Meyer's behavior, that he was no Meyer apologist because Meyer lost to Purdue and Iowa and only won a single national championship.

To be honest, I didn't follow your link. But there's nothing that fan could have said that would have surprised me.

edit: Okay, I couldn't help myself and I looked. Not surprised at all.

Damn. McMurphy showed his real name and address. I don’t think I’ve seen this before. Usually, it’s blacked out.

Savage. This dude will get fired.

The coup de grâce is undoubtedly that last line, speculating on his presumed excellence at fellatio. The author just leaps off the cliff there, out into the great chasm of Ohio shitheadery.

obviously the guy’s a piece of shit, but i’m not wild about mcmurphy doxxing him.  report him, get his account suspended, call his boss and get him fired.

Honestly, I think this is a fireable offense ..... on McMurphy's part.

Unfortunately, when you're in the public eye, the crazy people of the world will send you occasional hateful and inappropriate emails.  Even when the "insult" is projecting Ohio State to the Citrus Bowl.

McMurphy, however (unless there is an actual threat), just needs to ignore it.

Shoot, insignificant me received a few hate letters (from fellow PSUers who actually bothered to figure out my real-life identity) back in 2011-2012 based on message board posts I made about Paterno and Sandusky.  Not worth the effort or time.

He should just ignore it? That’s some logic there. Hope you’re not a parent. The guy basically threatened the reporter, and was stupid enough to do it in writing. Here’s a life hack for you: That’s not okay, and people who threaten journalists who are just doing their jobs should be held accountable. You’re defending the abuser and blaming the victim. That’s sick.

JACKSONVILLE, FL—Apologizing to Jaguars fans for his early failures in leading the team, Jacksonville coach Urban Meyer admitted to reporters Tuesday that he is still adjusting to the speed of NFL cover-ups. “At the college level, these scandals take a lot longer to develop, and I’ll admit I just haven’t done the work to adjust my press strategy from Ohio State,” said Meyer, who explained that he was often able to shut down a damaging story or sweep a player’s transgressions under the rug with a single phone call while running a college program. “The NFL media ecosystem is just more complex than college, so I can’t run with the same simple denials I used in the past. I’m dealing with grown adults now, and lots of people have their own ideas that I can’t just override by throwing them off the team or threatening to take away a scholarship. Jaguars fans deserve a better level of cover-up than I’ve been providing, and I’m committed to learning and getting better.”

So I don't know if you've ever read some of the game threads or hell any thread around here when things are going poorly?

I guarantee there are some folks on mgo who would send an email just like that.

People can be turds, doesn't matter who you root for.

Psa: don't root for osu

But even if the season ended today, we'd have something like this for the NY6 games:

  • Alabama/Georgia/Cincinnati/one of the undefeated B1G teams in the CFP, split between the Orange & Cotton Bowls.
  • Sugar is guaranteed SEC vs. Big XII.  Call it Kentucky vs Oklahoma.
  • Rose is guaranteed Big Ten vs. Pac-12.  Another undefeated B1G team vs. Oregon.
  • The ACC is guaranteed a spot.  Hello Wake Forest.
  • 3 spots left.  There are still two other undefeated B1G teams out there, plus undefeated OK State and BYU.

No real room at the inn for Ohio State.  Hello Citrus Bowl.
