Stay Classy, Ohio State (McMurphy shares e-mail)
On my phone so I can't embed the tweet, but someone else can do it if they wish.
Basically, Brett McMurphy of the Action Network (formerly of ESPN), shared an e-mail he received from an Ohio State fan after releasing his bowl projections. Clearly the fan did not agree.
Every fanbase has it's nut (pun intended), but I was going back and forth with someone the other day who was holding OSU fans in really high esteem, when in reality, this type of stuff is far more common with that fanbase than most other non-SEC fanbases around the country.
Nonetheless, it was a nice laugh on a Tuesday.

Gotta be a fake fan then. A true member of buckeye nation has removed the letter M on all devices with a keyboard.
October 5th, 2021 at 9:55 PM ^
I recall a few years ago an image surfacrsd during Urbans reign, of something posted in their locker room... Some sort of program ethos . And they left out every single M in the wording. Except they erred and had left one in the word TEAM.
I repeat, we are beating them this year.

It's Xichigan FFS. This is all clearly a hoax by McMurphy.

Did he type this while sitting on a cooler?

Obligatory.....

Tough times for tOSU being the second best college football team in the state of Ohio and everything. They have to deal with that and now they're former Head of Integrity studies shows up in a bar grinding everything with blonde hair. A lot to process.

Cmon Man. The t does not go in front of OSU.

Once again...
Fucc Ohio State
October 5th, 2021 at 9:27 PM ^
Sounds like every OSU fan I’ve encountered at the Big House.

Years back we took our RV and golf cart to a nice resort which is what Ohio refers to as a campground. My golf cart back then had a custom Michigan wrap, this thing was bad ass and looked like something Harbaugh would ride around campus on. Long story short is I had a couple of shirtless sunburnt, overweight buckeye fans harass me and the wife the entire time. Not just friendly banter, the more natty and Busch light they drank the more they wanted to fight. Mind you I also had a the 12 and 4 yr old on the back of the cart.

On sports radio here in Ohio today all they could talk about was how Urban Meyer didn't do anything wrong. According to them, all that happened was a girl danced close to him (never mind his hand placement).
OSU fans are the worst. They think that Hayes was wrongly fired and that Meyer and Tressel were wrongly pushed out. One of the radio guys said, while excusing Meyer's behavior, that he was no Meyer apologist because Meyer lost to Purdue and Iowa and only won a single national championship.
To be honest, I didn't follow your link. But there's nothing that fan could have said that would have surprised me.
edit: Okay, I couldn't help myself and I looked. Not surprised at all.

Worse than Valenti?

Damn. McMurphy showed his real name and address. I don’t think I’ve seen this before. Usually, it’s blacked out.
Savage. This dude will get fired.

Savage. This dude will get fired.
From what? His job as a tree guy? I'm sure wherever this guy works he has a boss who, if he cares at all, is proud of the guy for saying it.

Looks like he works for American Family Insurance
October 5th, 2021 at 10:27 PM ^
It may have happened already. If you search "Jeff Veith" in their "Contact An Agent" page, you cannot contact Jeff Veith. Jeffs come up in Ohio, but no one by the last name of Veith.

If you think about it, insurance jobs have the superficial appearance of being white collar but you can get into them without any education. It's like a blue collar job where you manipulate people instead of objects. Just like car salesmen.
October 6th, 2021 at 8:44 AM ^
He’s an insurance agent, and he used his work email to top it off. He’s totally fired. Maybe he gets away with it if he uses a personal email, but the work email being used to send a threatening email… he gone.

Don't forget the homophobic part!
October 5th, 2021 at 9:42 PM ^
Doubtful if he is among those who agree with him . They will likely hold him in higher regard for what he wrote .
October 5th, 2021 at 9:31 PM ^
This is not an anomaly, and correct "Nut" fits in more ways than one.
October 5th, 2021 at 9:32 PM ^
Don’t Buckeye fans start talking like that in pre-school? Is it even shocking anymore?
October 5th, 2021 at 9:33 PM ^
If this gets me tarred and feathered out of here, then I will own that, but if I can take up for my adopted hometown for one second…
We do in fact have some very fine people here:

The r/CFB community is great on Reddit. Definitely by far the best in terms of comments you'll find.

Every fanbase has at least a few that will say abhorrent things.
October 5th, 2021 at 9:51 PM ^
"Staying" classy implies that they were once classy in the past. Fail. So cannot "stay" classy, can they ?
October 7th, 2021 at 7:38 PM ^
That's exactly the point. Welcome to irony.
Remember the old school days when a heavyset guy might be nicknamed Tiny or Slim?
Saying "You stay classy" to a fanbase which rarely demonstrates class is similar.
October 5th, 2021 at 9:56 PM ^
The coup de grâce is undoubtedly that last line, speculating on his presumed excellence at fellatio. The author just leaps off the cliff there, out into the great chasm of Ohio shitheadery.
October 6th, 2021 at 10:52 AM ^
OR perhaps he’s using the rhetorical strategy of leading with a negative message but softening the blow—so to speak—with something positive.
October 5th, 2021 at 10:02 PM ^
obviously the guy’s a piece of shit, but i’m not wild about mcmurphy doxxing him. report him, get his account suspended, call his boss and get him fired.
October 5th, 2021 at 10:06 PM ^
Honestly, I think this is a fireable offense ..... on McMurphy's part.
Unfortunately, when you're in the public eye, the crazy people of the world will send you occasional hateful and inappropriate emails. Even when the "insult" is projecting Ohio State to the Citrus Bowl.
McMurphy, however (unless there is an actual threat), just needs to ignore it.
Shoot, insignificant me received a few hate letters (from fellow PSUers who actually bothered to figure out my real-life identity) back in 2011-2012 based on message board posts I made about Paterno and Sandusky. Not worth the effort or time.
October 5th, 2021 at 11:08 PM ^
He should just ignore it? That’s some logic there. Hope you’re not a parent. The guy basically threatened the reporter, and was stupid enough to do it in writing. Here’s a life hack for you: That’s not okay, and people who threaten journalists who are just doing their jobs should be held accountable. You’re defending the abuser and blaming the victim. That’s sick.
October 5th, 2021 at 10:09 PM ^
I do not agree with the doxxing. Your are correct there are other reporting mechanisms.
Clearly the guy is a homer idiot. Sad.
October 6th, 2021 at 8:48 AM ^
Idk. The guy is dumb enough to send a threatening email to a reporter from his work email. He deserves to be doxxed. The solution is simple, don’t say anything online that you wouldn’t be okay with going public and dealing with the consequences.
October 5th, 2021 at 10:11 PM ^
May have found our clown - independent insurance agent in Plain City, Ohio - a suburb of you guessed it - Columbus.
October 5th, 2021 at 11:07 PM ^
What? The guy didn’t post that diatribe as a comment on a message board under the presumption of anonymity. He sent an email from an account with his name tied to it. Once the email hits Brett’s inbox, Brett can do what he wants with it. This is not the same as exposing someone’s identity on, say, mgoblog.
October 6th, 2021 at 9:14 AM ^
Why would anyone be upset about him being doxed (I do not think this qualifies as doxing anyways)? You reap what you sow.
October 6th, 2021 at 5:50 PM ^
That guy doxxed himself. McMurphy did nothing wrong.

JACKSONVILLE, FL—Apologizing to Jaguars fans for his early failures in leading the team, Jacksonville coach Urban Meyer admitted to reporters Tuesday that he is still adjusting to the speed of NFL cover-ups. “At the college level, these scandals take a lot longer to develop, and I’ll admit I just haven’t done the work to adjust my press strategy from Ohio State,” said Meyer, who explained that he was often able to shut down a damaging story or sweep a player’s transgressions under the rug with a single phone call while running a college program. “The NFL media ecosystem is just more complex than college, so I can’t run with the same simple denials I used in the past. I’m dealing with grown adults now, and lots of people have their own ideas that I can’t just override by throwing them off the team or threatening to take away a scholarship. Jaguars fans deserve a better level of cover-up than I’ve been providing, and I’m committed to learning and getting better.”

October 5th, 2021 at 10:12 PM ^
So I don't know if you've ever read some of the game threads or hell any thread around here when things are going poorly?
I guarantee there are some folks on mgo who would send an email just like that.

Osu in the citrus bowl??? Definite troll job by McMurphy to rile up rednecks
October 5th, 2021 at 10:38 PM ^
U-M played them so everyone here knows, but Alabama was in the CY 2020 Citrus Bowl. Alabama!
A 9-3 or 10-2 OSU to the Citrus Bowl isn't completely unrealistic.
October 6th, 2021 at 8:21 AM ^
They haven't played in anything except a new year's 6 bowl since 2006, outside of one of the florida bowls when Fickel coached that one season. It actually is almost unrealistic to project them to a lower tier game this early in the season. Maybe if/when they get their 2nd loss
October 6th, 2021 at 8:51 AM ^
It’s a projection. You can project future losses for a team. By your logic, Michigan should be projected to the CFP because we haven’t lost yet. Or, you can predict Michigan will lose 2-3 games by the end of the year and have that reflected in your bowl projections.
October 6th, 2021 at 1:37 PM ^
But even if the season ended today, we'd have something like this for the NY6 games:
- Alabama/Georgia/Cincinnati/one of the undefeated B1G teams in the CFP, split between the Orange & Cotton Bowls.
- Sugar is guaranteed SEC vs. Big XII. Call it Kentucky vs Oklahoma.
- Rose is guaranteed Big Ten vs. Pac-12. Another undefeated B1G team vs. Oregon.
- The ACC is guaranteed a spot. Hello Wake Forest.
- 3 spots left. There are still two other undefeated B1G teams out there, plus undefeated OK State and BYU.
No real room at the inn for Ohio State. Hello Citrus Bowl.

Jeff V. will be fired within 24 hours, and rightly so.
