Sports Monday interview with Denard
The Daily got an interview with Denard about the revival of the EA Sports NCAA football game. It gets into some interesting issues about players receiving compensation for the use of their likenesses, and needing to have a union or something similar to represent their interests. I also loved Denard's stunned reaction when the writer admits to never having played the game.

Is there a correct answer to this player compensation issue? Will NIL help alleviate some of these issues or will it open Pandora's Box?

No, maybe and yes.

With NIL, instead of receiving McDonald's bags full of cash, players will sign "endorsements" with bogus companies founded by boosters. But it will bring this stuff above board.

Specifically addressed in the Student-Athlete Equity Act of 2020.
The problem is the feckless NCAA won't do a thing about it.

Man I love Denard. He was a ray of light in The Great Darkness.

No doubt, still one of my favorite DR videos....

How have I never seen this. There's even a Lloyd Brady cameo.

Does he still post here? I forget this guys username.

Denard <3. There is this purity that radiates from him.

"I also loved Denard's stunned reaction when the writer admits to never having played the game."
This is the only football board game I ever played.
February 8th, 2021 at 1:18 PM ^
Over/under on how many minutes we played this game before everybody got bored watching plastic football men spin around in aimless circles? About 10.
February 8th, 2021 at 2:39 PM ^
Yeah. And a lot of safeties in the end zone. "No, no, you're going the wrong way!"
February 8th, 2021 at 2:46 PM ^
I'll take the under, for sure.
February 8th, 2021 at 1:35 PM ^
And when the motor died, you could just tap on the field to make the players go.
February 8th, 2021 at 1:36 PM ^
I bought mine at a garage sale and that's the only way I ever played it. tap-tap-tap...

I recently watched a portion of a YouTube video explaining how one is actually supposed to play this game.
It was even worse than what I had imagined.
February 8th, 2021 at 2:04 PM ^
I used to play it by myself for hours on end. I never used the motor, just my hand. It was sort of the original "fantasy" game. A good investment, I'd say.

"just my hand"
User name just about checks out.

I used to play by myself for hours on end [...], just my hand.
That's how I play by myself too.

I’m 41 and played a lot of video games in my younger day, but I just don’t have the time anymore. I don’t see where people find the time.
February 8th, 2021 at 1:21 PM ^
Well most people who play video games are younger. I would assume when people get married and have kids it doesn't leave much time for it.

i play a lot of mario cart 8 and animal crossing with my children. They don't have the zeal i had when i got my first nintendo NES, but it is fun to play with them none the less.
February 8th, 2021 at 2:34 PM ^
Literally exact same boat. Animal Crossing is a pretty great game for younger children.
February 8th, 2021 at 1:34 PM ^
Me neither. If I had regular free time I squeezed in an extra part time job. I did play a bunch of mario and duck hunt when I was a kid, goldeneye and mario cart with the friends in high school when we hung out, but little as an adult. Ncaa football though was one of those few games I owned that you could pop in on an off day if you were bored for a few hours.

Plus, Michigan would have 10 national championships in a row back when i played. If reality is bad, make your own!

Ha, bought my kid a switch and really thought I'd play Mario Kart a lot.....nope...Bought my kid an Xbox and really thought I'd play the sports games with him a lot......nope. I wasn't a gamer by any means when I was younger but I played. I just can't get in to it now. I don't mind playing a bit, but I don't have any interest whatsoever in learning the 75 different button combinations to do a simple running play.
Get off my lawn

34 with 5 kids. I enjoy playing with the kids. I also choose to play a game over watching tv some nights. It is just another release valve after work.
I will admit the way I game is different. I used to play a lot of RPGs and just spend hours upon hours on them. Now I might squeeze in an hour or two a couple of nights a week.

Sadly, I figured out there was an end to Dynasty mode in 2002. I got laid off on a job and played NCAA 02 all day. Three months in and 60 seasons later, I was forced into retirement.

Are you fucking kidding me?!?!? I have been working on this on my off time for 2.5 years and you are telling me I can't be the HC at U of M in the year 2100? I'm deleting all my saved content.

This.
I've never played a game of Madden in my life. Too busy.
