The Sopranos’ Prequel Movie Trailer “The Many Saints of Newark”
I did, but back in the day, I assumed Tony got whacked. Probably after wondering what the hell happened to the cable.
You don’t need 14 minutes of black screen to symbolize that.
I agree. I think the ending was brilliant and absolutely perfect.
I always thought that if Tony got whacked in the end that they would make it one of the most spectacular and elaborately filmed scenes of the series. Instead, they made it the way it actually must be for most people who get whacked – they never see it coming, the lights just simply go out suddenly and unexpectedly
That was a great trailer. The kid looks so much like his dad which adds so much to the movie. Throw in the Sopranos music and now I can't wait to watch.
I loved that opening theme.
Paul Wood's cover of "The Blues is My Business" got me to buy his CDs.
Celebrities seem so far removed from the real world that we live in and we only get to know them on screen, but James Gandolfini’s death really bummed me out.
Me too. So many great roles. I enjoyed him in The Mexican.
OT from this OT thread, but the new Halloween flick also released its first full trailer. I feel like I just watched about 60% of the movie.
(BTW, I may be in the minority, but I really disliked the 2018 Halloween flick. I hope this one doesn't take itself as seriously. I also hope every character from the 2018 movie dies, as I hated them all (except the kid with the babysitter)).
I watch 1/10th of the trailers now and make my decision form there. They give you the opening, the plot twists, the biggest cliff hanger and sometimes the ending. Quit telling the effing story thats why we go. Good call.
Not a comment about Sopranos specifically, but it has been a massive mental hurdle for me to get into prequels of any kind. I think knowing what the future holds in that specific world makes it really tough to power through.
Simple example- Texas Chainsaw remakes. The first one was actually not bad- didn't know what to expect. Then they did the prequel, and we obviously knew that the family was going to live.
The prequel half of Godfather II would, of course, be an exception.
Typically agree with this take. One major exception is the prequel to Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, which is terrific IMO.
Oh for sure- there are definitely exceptions to that rule. But it's just been really tough for me in general.
It's treason, then
If you are invested in the characters prequels are great. If not, you won’t like them.
Excited to see this. My wife and I just started the series again on HBO Max. We had both watched it many moons ago, and it’s just as good as I remembered.
Guess we’re gonna find out if Michael Gandolfini has the makings of a varsity athlete.
Either way, I’m psyched for this movie. Been waiting for it since the day it was announced. GABAGOOL FOR EVERYONE!!!
If this takes place during the Newark riots of '67 then Tony should only be around 7 or 8 years old. They should have set it in the late 70's.
Also I hope they don't gloss over where Tony didn't have the makings of a varsity athlete.
Yep. That appears to be a major blunder.
Fuhgettaboutit!!
Looks dumb
Big mistake! Just watched before getting on a Zoom call. Hopefully my "Toobin" goes away. This looks awesome.
