Semi OTish - World Wrestling Entertainment's (N)ext (I)n (L)ine program
I have been on this site non stop since 42-27 and went back at least 5 pages on the message board so....SIAP but I came across this nugget of information that I haven't seen mentioned here yet at MGO.
I know there are several hardcore wrestling fans on this board, like myself, so I thought I'd share this here with the rest of you. WWE has gotten itself into the NIL game! WWE has signed a number of collegiate athletes, including UM Wrestling's own Mason Parris, to NIL deals that will seemingly lead to an opportunity at a developmental deal with WWE upon graduation. A quote from Paul "Triple H" Levesque..
“The WWE NIL program has the potential to be transformational to our business,” he said. “By creating partnerships with elite athletes at all levels across a wide variety of college sports, we will dramatically expand our pool of talent and create a system that readies NCAA competitors for WWE once their collegiate careers come to a close.”
A full list of the 1st group of signees can be found at https://www.wrestlinginc.com/news/2021/12/wwe-reveals-inaugural-class-of-nil-athletes/

Those of us who are fans of the genre have heard for weeks now that WWE changed their recruitment strategies and this would appear to be one of the steps in that direction. I, along with many other fans, have been very critical of WWE in recent weeks/months/years for very valid reasons but I can't help but commend them for establishing talent pipelines in this fashion.

I'm not a WWE fan but I upvote NIL for the athletes. Not sure why you got negged. It seems relevant to understand the NIL opportunities being generated and how this is evolving.

Makes a ton of sense for a lot of these guys - I expect we'll see similar deals for gymnasts, swimmers, etc. who wind up going into those Cirque du Soleil shows once they're done competing. But particularly with professional wrestling it's an easy way to trade on name recognition, which is obviously huge for wrestlers, while also getting a consistent pipeline for development.

very cool, it will be interesting to see where these lead. One of my biggest take away after Hutchinson gave his B1G MVP speech was that dude has a voice that would be perfect for wrestling.

If only Ben Mason had come a long a few years later.

I know he’s not technically in the school, but I can’t think of a better heel character for Joe Spivak than “The Medill Grad.”
