Hope all of my fellow MGobloggers are having a great weekend. Cracked open a bottle of Old Forester 1920 and listening to Myles Davis. What are you all doing this evening?

Drinking alcoholic kombucha because my gut can’t handle beer anymore and I’m not feeling whiskey tonight.

Mixed emotions right now. Worlds got me down, especially what’s going on in our country and how corrosive our preferred channels of communication have become  to our greater humanity. At same time, feeling grateful for the friends i have. The family. My health.

Took the easy road.  Hamburg MI to D36 turnaround and back on a bike.  Zukey Lake for a drink. 18-20mi.total.

Stopped at Witches Hat for curbside (Massive COVID positive).  Great 6 beers (drank 2) with brisket tacos.

zukey lake tavern?  early '80's with two U of M buddies.  we waterskiied all one summer day  and the #1 song of that summer....'she's got betty davis eyes' played on the radio.  one of those long-time friends passed 3 years ago.

Just got back home to Chicago after spending a week in northern Michigan. But made sure to bring back some goodies from Iron Fish Distillery, and just tapped open a bourbon aged in tawny port casks. Excellent stuff. Looks like they distribute all across MI with online sales available in Illinois. Highly recommend.

Made a vodka tonic a little while ago with muddled cucumber and fresh lime juice. Normally, I would have included some fresh mint or basil as well, but forgot to pick it at the store today.

Cheering on the peaceful protestors and hoping the looting ends. Love the positive energy from the vast majority of the young men and women interviewed on CNN. Hope the opportunistic bastards setting fire to these cities don’t ruin the message of angry resistance that the masses came to spread.

Just finished eating a leftover slice of cold Zain's pizza and enjoying a cold Founders Red's Rye P. A.

Not enjoying most of what's on TV tonight.

I went for a 5 mile run after work, it allowed me to have a steak dinner, a nice cab. Later I had to drink some shiner bock since I have a lot of it in the garage fridge, along with some popcorn.

Hanging out with friends and drinking beers. If people can riot together I can have a few drinks.

Wino here in CA. Enjoyed a bottle of 2014 Palazzo Proprietary Red Right Bank Reserve Napa Valley. Merlot-based Bordeaux style red. Bought on a a whim. Surprisingly good.

Listened to the Tedeschi Trucks band while consuming. Susan Tedeschi has a terrific voice. Really bummed though, because I bought tix for the fam to see them in Denver in late July but it’s been postponed for a year.

The talk about drones above reminds of the incident my buddy, his son and his father-in-law experienced.  Xmas a few years ago, my buddy bought his son a drone, which they promptly lost in a field next door in possibly 30 seconds.  That spring, they got another drone, which, you guessed it, disappeared in a similar amount of time.  The good news was when they looked for the second drone, the found the first one which had clearly been run over by a tractor.  lol

Morning Espresso (double shot) from my new machine. Finally bit the bullet and bought a fairly premium machine (Rocket Appartamento) after using a small Breville for a couple of years.

Not gonna lie - the beans I use are usually Caribou Coffee. Way better than Starbucks and are like crack addicting. I usually use them or Black Cat.

Get to do the significant other’s morning coffee too - except she prefers it 99% chocolate/caramel sauce/creamer and 1% coffee.

If you're going to spend that much on a machine like the Rocket, I strongly encourage you to find a local roaster. Depending on where you live, you'll find at least one. You'll be rewarded with an espresso shot worthy of the machine you bought.

You guys sound like folk who would be quite knowledgeable on espresso.  Any place you’d suggest where I can find reliable and thoughtful reviews on espresso machines, particularly Nespresso?

I know, I know ... I’m talking to guys who are dropping $1k+ on the real deal ... but my wife really likes the idea of the Nespresso capsules, and in reality there is no way we have the daily time or budget to invest in the kind of setup you guys are talking about.

My challenge has been that my first two Nespresso machines have each crapped out within a couple months of owning them.  Trying to find someone who knows the right one to get.  TIA...

Seattlecoffeegear.com is my favorite site. Wholelattelove.com is next.

I didn't spend $1,000 on my machine. I've got a Breville Barista Express and it works well. Before this, I had a Saeco Via Venezia with a very good separate grinder.

There are a lot of factors that will dictate the quality of your espresso. Nespresso is obviously the "no-muss, no-fuss" approach, and the coffee is pretty good, but it's not as good at espresso. The time invested is definitely greater in a real, semi-automatic espresso machine; but I would challenge you on the budget difference. For what you have spent on Nespresso machines plus the pods, you could have had a very good espresso machine and grinder, plus locally roasted, whole coffee beans. It's not worth the investment of time, patience, and capital for some people; but the end result is as good as you get at a boutique coffee shop, and way better than a big chain.
