Sam Webb: Tyus Battle is visiting Syracuse (EDIT: and has re-opened his recruitment)
Sam said this on WTKA this morning. He said he does not think Battle is waivering and that he would only be doing his due diligence (assuming he does visit Syracuse), so to speak. Sam also suggested that the visit would be is motivated by people around Battle having encouraged him to make sure that Michigan is the right choice.
I know this might be a futile thought, but I highly recommend not panicking about this. FWIW, Sam didn't seem too worried. He mentioned that Syracuse's big pitch to Battle has been that he could be a PG, which doesn't seem realistic...EDIT/my own thought: Syracuse is also facing NCAA sanctions (loss of scholarships/probation).
If this raccoon can stand on this aligator (picture posted on the board earlier this week), you can not panic about this. Be like the raccoon, my friends.
EDIT: See posts below in which Evan Daniels says Battle has re-opened his recruitment. So things are worse than they seemed earlier this morning, though I still encourge you to remember our aligator riding friend.
Will Michigan re-open its pursuit of Josh Langford? He could swing down to AA after visting MSU.
But what if the raccoon visits Syracuse???
What if an alligator eats Tyus Battle?
that gator should defitiely be worried about losing that raccoon. Ain't no sanctions coming to Syracuse's BAB program (Bachelor of Adorable Bandits).
Wonder is Josh Langford gets a call from Coach B just in case before he does anything crazy like commit to MSU.
If the glove doesn't fit, do not throw a fit.
I don't really understand what due dilligence is supposed to mean in the context of "he's not waivering"
Maybe he is sure but his family thinks he may not be sure?
Shit, not I'm not sure.
I think they tried.
Earlier articles indicated Michigan was not the school his family wanted, and that he was forging his own path (or something like that)... be careful what you wish for!
I can imagine feeling very confident about, say, buying a car but still thinking, "Meh, I might as well go look at another car on the off chance I love it."
You were just looking for a reason to post that pick, right?
I wanted this news to be posted in the proper, non-fear-inspiring context.
And I wanted to re-post the picture. That raccoon is the Jim Harbaugh of raccoons.
Why? Why! Why.
Come to Syracuse! You can play in an arena where there's nothing a wrecking ball couldn't fix, where you can play for a coach who makes Tom Crean feel good about how few players he runs off, and where you can go to school (or not, it's really up to you)!
Not worried. From all of his comments, Battle seems to love Michigan and its culture, love Beilein and the coaches, love the system, etc. It would have to take a pretty good pitch for him to waiver, and I don't think Syracuse has that in their pocket. I mean Beilein vs. Boeheim is no contest, right?
And in recent years has sent MCW, Tyler Ennis, Johnny Flynn to the lottery, and Wes Johnson to the lottery.
I prefer Beilein myself, but "no contest" is going a bit far.
He also mentioned that Michigan will probably be in it for EJ Price, and they've been involved for a little while.
Also also, David Reese is still committed, loves Michigan, his parents are both educators so the M degree means everything. The rumors of wavering are probably due to the fact that he hasn't been ensured he'll be a LB by M's coaches, they've said they'll give him a shot. Schools like Louisville and Kentucky are selling him on the fact that he's a LB guaranteed, so if he really wants that in college - a guarantee he'll play LB - he wants a fallback option.

raccoons on top of alligators!!!
Hope Battle stays committed.
Why would he go up north and freeze his ass off?
Oh, wait . . .
I'm worried because Boeheim is as dirty as they come. The way Syracuse has been recruiting basketball under him would make the bag men of the SEC blush so that is aways a little bit of a worry.
Hopefully Battle sticks though.
And Syracuse BBall is currently a hole in the ground.
Yeah, if I'm a recruit I'm not sure Syracuse looks like a solution for me given what I assume will be some semi-harsh sanctions.
Tyus Battle is taking an official visit to Syracuse this weekend & opening up his recruitment, per sources. Committed to Michigan in May.

Balls.
This is why I never had a problem with the Hoke policy. If you are visiting other schools you are not commited. It is fine to want to play out the process but the school will recruit as if the spot is not filled, just makes things easier.
That stinks. I guess we can hear all the naysayers pile on Beilein for his inability to recruit 5 * players again.
Hope he sticks, but if he doesn't, then what are you gonna do?
I hate CBB recruiting.

Would be more surprised if Tyus Battle doesn't commit to Syracuse by weekend's end than if he does commit.

At Michigan, despite the travails of the past seven seasons, football is still the top sport in the hearts and minds of most Michigan fans. As great as John Beilein has been for Michigan, basketball still takes a back seat to football at Michigan. At Syracuse, basketball reigns supreme. if Tyus Battle (or someone in his fmaily who's influencing him) wants to go to a school where basketball is the top sport, then Syracuse isn't a bad choice.
Though this news is disappointing, especially considering the excitement generated by his previous commitment to Michigan, maybe it'll be better for Michigan to lose Tyus Battle now to Syracuse, but find men who are warriors and who want to be at Michigan and win at Michigan. Maybe the football team's #FAB25 can help to bring in another #Fab5 for the basketball program.
I can't denigrate Syracuse, because I've got a close relative who's an alum. The way lots of kids may dream of wearing the winged helmet and running throught the tunnel to touch the banner, there are lots of kids who may dream of playing hoops for a Hall of Fame coach at Syarcuse in front of 30,000 wild and crazy fans.
It would be far more embarrassing for Michigan to lose a highly rated football prospect to Syracuse than to lose Tyus Battle to Syracuse. (Syracuse's football program basically is just a distraction until basketball season begins. From 1965 through 2014, Syracuse football teams have won at least seven games only 21 times, while their basketball team has won at least 20 games, 41 times, and their lacrosse team has won ten national championships and finished second another six times.)
