I can. Rutgers still has a way to go to top those NW teams 50 years ago.

I wish there was video of that scoreless tie Illinois and Northwestern played in the 70s. That was epic. "If a tie is like kissing your sister, this is like kissing your ugly sister," somebody said.

If you're getting a full-ride offer to leave New Jersey, you're leaving New Jersey.

Rutgers has 2 wins and that makes them better than almost every team Northwestern had in the 70's and 80's, 1997 Illinois and 2013 Purdue.

Jim Browne (NTJB) was Northwestern's leading rusher that year. He had 162 yards.
Total. For the season.

Do not pottymouth our rivals. Except when I do. Projecting forward, both Rutgers and Purdue are in a race to the bottom. I believe Purdue will actually take the loser cake ten years from now. Although granted Rutgers is going to maintain steady negative pressure.

Rutgers has been great compared to Northwestern of the mid 70s early 80s
There were some horrible Northwestern teams for a very long time
The went 47 years inbtween Bowl game appearances
71 game stretch from 1975-1982
3-67-1 (0.049% win pct)
3 wins
67 losses
1 tie
lost 44 straight
and were 1-51-1 during a stretch

really bad. Small, slow, no strength in that team to speak of. That Minnesota team (Gopherquest) and early 80's Northwestern is right in the same neighborhood.
I'm really flabbergasted how Iowa only beat them 14-7

0-49 to a "down" MSU team. 39 total yards to Michigan at home, C'mon man!

Rutgers is already only 2 points behind Northwestern while giving up 135 fewer points.

81' NW might just be the worst team, followed by this Rutgers team of 2016.
November 12th, 2016 at 6:22 PM ^
Would be followed by '80 NW, '79 NW, and '78 NW. And then probably '77 NW, although they did manage to beat Illinois.

Minnesota gave up the largest number of points to Northwestern in 1981 and (so far) they've yielded the largest number of points to 2016 Rutgers.

...was their 29th in a row, breaking the all-time D1 record. When it was over their fans stormed the field and tore down the goalposts, chanting "We're The Worst!"

My high school just dropped their 24th in a row; they were outscored 502-35 this year. They've lost their rivalry game 49 years in a row. Or maybe it's 50 or 51, I can't even remember.
My undergrad alma mater went 0-10 this year, too, and they had a 2-100 stretch in the 90s.
You gotta love football to be willing to play at schools like that, getting your brains bashed in week after week.
