Rumor: 2 MgoBloggers Won the Powerball

Submitted by xtramelanin on

Mates,

Rumor has it that at least two MgoBloggers won the $1.5 billion dollar Powerball prize.  It is not entirely clear which ones, but you have to figure that it might include MgrowOld, Hatter, robf, Putin, SD Mick, Grendel, or even MeanJoe and a few others.

I wonder how they are going to split the $, and what they'll spend it on.   Let the speculation begin...

p.s.  It goes without saying that if WD won it then Nike will be bought before the stock market closes today.

Well, it certainly wasn't me - I checked my ticket when I woke up this morning and discovered, much to my sadness, that I must spend more time in the "decidedly not wealthy" column of life. The hope as always is that next time we can correct this particular oversight.

I am open to sharing in someone else's winnings, of course. I am willing to do absolutely nothing for that share, but if you would like to write a check, I would accept it.

I went to buy 2 Powerball tickets, but after the clerk printed them up, i only had $3 in cash on me, so I had to cancel one set of numbers. Unfortunately those happened to be the winning numbers.

Used to play the same 6 numbers in the MI lotto every week.  She did this for years back when there was only one weekly drawing, so this was pre-powerball / mega millions.

Eventually she stopped playing, because she never won anything more than a few dollars.

Three weeks after she stopped playing her numbers hit for a $9 million jackpot.  I probably would have hung myself.

My wife and I bought a couple of tickets and no, we were NOT one of the mGoWinners last night.  But as we were talking about what we'd do with the money if we did win it struck me that I really didnt want to win.  Winning that much money would change literally EVERYTHING in my life and I honestly cant see how it would be better.  Clearly I'd never want for money again in my life but what about everything else?  Your relationship with your wife would change, your kids would change, your friends, your job - everything would change. And from everything I've read the people that win these mega-jackpots dont seem real happy a couple of years later.

I actually count it as a blessing to not be a winner.  Maybe that makes me wierd but that's honestly how I see it.  Anybody else feel that way?

Honestly I had many of those same thoughts as well.  Though, I don't believe enough of them to tip me to the "don't want to win it at all" side.  After all the discussion about it, my wife though was of the opinion that she would rather win the $1,000,000 prize (enough to be life changing for us).  I'd still take my chances with the 1.5 billion and roll the dice regarding all the complications.

it is absolutely true.  when i was in grad school out in socal i bounced at 'the' place to be for the celebrities, musicians, movie stars, rock stars, you name it.  you want to see prince, princess stephanie, michael keaton, rob lowe, OJ and marcus, and maybe have a leopard walk through the crowd, come see me at work back in the '80's.  it paid fantastically, and it also was a view into a world that you wouldn't imagine at first blush.   those folks are lost in life, messed up, followed by sycophants whom they have no idea if they are true friends, and even if they're pretty normal, their kids all end up in jail, rehab, running off with the livestock, it is bad ju ju.

and while it is fun to kick around the idea of 'what if' on the monster lotto, the price you would pay to win it is probably very dear, and not worth it in the long run.

Many jackpot winners tend to go bankrupt and there's that whole "optimal rich" studies that have been done in recent years. If you win the jackpot, the key is being smart. You should not tell anyone for weeks and hire a tax attorney immediately . Too many people don't do that and the money causes more headaches than joy

if you get an investment advisor first thing. then you sit down and make a list of what you want to do with the money. who gets what and say this is all you get until  i die. yes i would blow some but not that dumb to blow it all. tax's would get a bunch. i think typically people get new homes, cars and trips. you get so much a month that is what you live on. just like a paycheck. who knows just guessing. i will take the money those who do not want it can give it to me.

Exactly what I thought as well.  Is there any way having that dumptruck full of money will *improve* your relationship with your spouse or children or parents?  You'll never again know if people actually like you or not, including your own family.  The rest of your life you'll disappoint people if you don't give them the money they ask for.

I thought about buying a ticket and literally decided that I didn't want to take the chance of winning.  I'm sure you younger Mgobloggers will think this is the height of stupidity (I would have at age 23).  Hard to describe until you live it.
