Question about PSU tix

Submitted by Mesabi Miner on

Hello my MGo-Bretheren

So I plan on attending the Penn State game with 3 of my friends. I am coming up from Ohio and already have a hotel booked for that Friday night. Last year I attended the BYU game and was able to purchase my tickets from Stubhub the Wednesday or Thursday before the game at a reduced price. This however was for only 2 tickets, and a non-conference game.

My question is, do you think it would be wise to wait until the week of the game again? I plan on using Stubhub again, and don't really want to take the risk of dealing with scalpers or the game selling out (unlikely, I know).

I'm in charge of the ticket situation (along with everything else) and everyone is excited so I want to do it right, but maybe save some money if I can. What do you guys think?

Thanks and Go Blue!

Stubhub is not worth it.

They ream you from behind with "fees". Projected fees for next week's game are over $40!

Stubhub would be a last resort for me personally. But if you have to, you have to. I'd buy now if I were you and I'd try the ticket office online first. Only a $4 fee.

That's misleading, though.

Is it really that big of a deal if you get seat 14 in row 31 and then seat 14 in row 32? You're basically next to each other anyways.

Or you could find ones with two between your two tickets and ask those people if you could switch.

Whatever you can do to make it work.

You come up with some ridiculous notions. Who the hell wants to screw around with all of that, and still end up hoping that maybe you can sit with the person you came with.

If I'm coming to the game with the mrs, yeah it's a major problem to not be sitting next to each other. Like, what?

The second one happened to me this past game so that's where I got the idea for. It works if you wanna go to the game when there aren't many seats left.

The first one works because I've done it before since I go with someone who doesn't complain about logistics. Being in front or behind someone is close enough given how packed in we all are.

If budget is the driving force and this way is the only way you can get to a game / more than one game....I get it.  Not judging you.  We all have to do what we have to do given our financial resources.  If you have the money but are being cheap and willing to inconvenience others (ask them to move, etc.), then just go to Stubhub and purchase tickets.  Way easy and the "extra cost" is worth the convenience and ensuring you sit together.

I may be able to make it to every game this year for the first time ever.

I paid $150 for tickets to last week's game, scored free tickets for this weekend's AND the Wisconsin game through work, and may score more from work for games later in the year against a Maryland or Illinois. Not to mention a ticket in the student section for the PSU game from a current Michigan athlete friend.

But for Colorado, stranded seats are available and I'm probably gonna go with the back option.

I can afford $40, but not $40 for nonsense imo. It's $40 to tailgate in our lot.

There's no way I would do that to someone like my wife or my kids quite honestly, and indeed, Stubhub tends to be a little better for finding groups of seats - they might not be absolutely ideal, but I would say that if you're going to take people, search StubHub or other services first. Going through the harangue that your idea suggests is not something a lot of people would be willing to do.

$40 is not a few dollars when you're going to multiple games.

Idiotic is overlooking the price of two person dinner for bullshit fees.

Be my guest if you wanna bend over and pay that. I will not. No one is wrong with their choice, it's just something that I don't do. If that bothers you, both of you can take a hike.

Whoa there, kiddo.

Suddenly you are not a part of "the Peanut Gallery"? You give yourself a shit ton of credit that you don't at all deserve. Your narcissism continually amazes me.

It's not our fault that you don't have close relationships, and therefore don't understand why someone would be willing to pay more to sit together. Yeah, let me just put this fat sweaty dude between my beatiful lady and myself.

WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL GUISE, GEEZ. YOU ARE CLOSE ENOUGH!

something like two seats in one row immediately ahead of or behind two seats in the next, it can actually make it easier for four people to talk to each other.

Wouldn't really think of it for just two people though.

You can pay Stubhub's fees for the convenience and so you have some recourse/assistance in the event there's a problem, or you buy direct from the university, or you can go to another website or the streets of Ann Arbor and take your chances.  It's a free country.

Also amusing judging by your recent posts that you're offended that I'm not drinking alcohol like it's water since I'm 21.

I've seen alcohol ruin lives and kill people around me. Maybe that's why there's some pause about drinking.

You don't like WD. You aren't wrong that he is a little annoying, but what is REALLY annoying is that you (and to a lesser extent Brown Bear) feel the need to call out every single mis-step the guy makes.  It usually goes like this:

WD: Something a little dumb.

Everyone else on MgoBlog: (eyeroll, but don't post)

TIMMAY: RAAAAGE!!1!!!

WD: Wut? Gives poor support for his position.

TIMMAY: You just don't get it. You are doing life wrong.

WD: No I'm not. I'm just a regular dude.

TIMMAY: No you're not a regular dude. I'm a regular dude and I'm better than you. Therefore, you are less than a regular dude.

WD: Haters gonna hate.

$40 in fees? Where are you getting that from?
I just went trhough the process of buying tickets on Stubhub and the fees were just under $16.

Really not all that bad.
And according to someone else on here, only about $2 more than going through the ticket office.
Oh, and I can buy tickets right next to eachother, and don't have to play the game of "will you switch" or turn around to talk with whomever I'm at the game with.

In the StubHub options panel -- click on the sliders, as if you were going to equalize your stereo from 1993 -- there's an option to "show prices with fees."

The bait-and-switch is irritating, but if you think of them as $121.30 tickets, what do you care how much of that money goes to StubHub and how much to the seller?

(Also, spoiler alert: StubHub charges fees to the seller, too -- so they're not even getting the $99).

Shop different sites, find the best value, and make your purchase.  If you're just trying to get in the door, and you're happy with singles in row 88, the ticket office is possibly the cheapest.  If you'd prefer to sit lower, or find multiple seats together, you'll need a reseller of some ilk.

OP: I've never had a problem getting a single at the gate, except one time -- Michigan @ Washington in 2001, when I finally found something just before kickoff.  For four together, though, I'd buy in advance: set a budget and watch the various sites until you see something you like, then pounce -- and don't look back.

I grew up in PA and my family are PSU fans. Especially my cousin who went to PSU's main campus in State College. I was invited to go to their game against Temple and declined due to other obligations.

However, now they are honoring JoePa, I don't think I can go see a game at Penn State. I just can't give money to an organization that thinks that is ok. It is going to be interesting the next time I'm invited to a game and I decline and say why.

Just had to get that off my chest. K thanx

Agreed.  I have Penn State fans that are friends and they are huge apologizers for Paterno.  They claim that the allegations aren't true, or at least most of them, and you cannot prove when Paterno really knew.  My reply is always "Paterno knew, that is clear.  And lets say he knew for only 1 year and did nothing.  Waiting that long is enough time to get your statue removed.".

That surprises me.  I'm a Penn State fan who will attend the game if it is a 3:30 kickoff, but will not if it is 12:00 (I have to be in Cincinnati Friday evening so I'd be driving up north Saturday morning.  But I'm not hitting the road at something like 4:30 or 5 AM).

Obviously I'm waiting til Monday AM (earliest possible announcement of the kickoff time) regardless, but if demand is fairly low (a non sell-out) that might effect my own timing.

It is sold out in effect.

It's down to single seats. Which means there are maybe 300 or so scattered single seats around the stadium, but out of 108,000 that's not much. Almost nobody is willing to buy single seats because very, very few people go to football games alone.

PSU almost never sells out anything, or gets close to scattered single seats.

We got down to single seats for Hawaii, and are down to single seats for Penn State and Illinois, and sold out of Wisconsin. The November games still are a while away. UCF and Colorado are like 97% sold out, but definitely won't get to 100%.

Basically no games sell out of single seats except for the super big matchups (Wisconsin looks to be the only one poised to do so this year/already has; MSU, OSU and ND always do).
