Player name pronunciations?
Focused on the 2019 football recruiting class. This is how I hear the names in my head, but wondering what's actually correct.
Charbonnet - SHAR-buh-nay (like chardonnay with a "b")
Trente Jones - TREN-tay
Mazi Smith - may-zee or mozzie?
Sainristil - SAN-ri-steel
Giles Jackson - we know from UV that it's Jiles
And I still don't know how to pronounce Gemon Green... JEM-on?

Even simple ones like Frey (Fray)

Lol like it's a common name? Why wouldn't most of us think that?

Giles isn't a common first name but it is a somewhat common surname. Absolutely no one pronounces it with a hard G.

I believe it is pronounced yogging the j is silent. Apparently you just run for an extended period of time.

fill-ee-ONG-a? I've been thinking "fill-ee-AH-guh" this whole time.
And shouldn't it be "VELL-shoff" since he's German? We said "VOG-ner," not "WAG-ner."

Some pronunciations (and spellings for that matter) can become more Americanized over time. My ancestors came from Germany to rural Michigan a little over 100 years ago with a slightly different spelling and I'm sure a very different pronunciation.
This is not the case, however, for the Wagner family (whom I believe still live in Germany).

Welschof (which my phone autocorrected to “eels hog” at first) is from Germany though, just like the Wagners. Not sure what’s up with that one.

Eels hog, lol...
But yeah, that was my point. Welschoff is from Germany, not an American with German ancestry.
