Pistons Sign Ish Smith
I feel neither excited or depressed with this move.
Smith can't shoot 3s or defend, but he's ultra-quick and seems to be improving steadily as a floor general. He's essentially a poor man's version of Jackson and will let the Pistons offense keep flowing when Jackson sits. Steve Blake was bad and Smith is probably an average backup PG, so he makes the team a bit better.
Most importantly, they got him for a reasonable price. Avoding doing something dumb like paying Dellevedova a giant bucket of money is good news for a GM with a mixed track record in free agency (to put it kindly).
It also keeps their options open for another forward or wing.
Ish is short for Ishmael which is a Biblical name and a Moby Dick name
This is a great move for Detroit. They've upgraded a position of need (granted, they could have signed me and it would have been an upgrade over Blake), and that contract is going to become an even bigger bargain with the cap jumps against next year.
