I think Magnus makes a great point about our SOS being hurt by out big non-confernce opp.

- Hawaii

-UCF

-Colorado

These teams don't help us at all.

Magnus I'd like your take on this but this goes to another issue as well.

The Big Ten has the 2nd most players drafter in 2016 with 47, the SEC lead the way with 51. The next highest was the Pac-12 with 32! I belive the SOS in the Big Ten is hurt because of a lack of respect of the conference. Some of pointed to the road games at Iowa, MSU and OSU. The fact is until those team prove it on the field they aren't given credit for being good talented teams.

Going the other way the SEC is given the benefit of the doubt that they will replace all those draft pics. Thus those teams are ranked higher and thus have higher in-conference SOS.

Just something I am thinking about as I am here covering the SEC.

I hate to say it, but OSU helped turn the tide of SEC dominance two years ago. However, the conference needed to keep that up. It didn't and that is mainly because the two highest profile Big Ten bowl games (MSU and Iowa - divisions champs) were both embarrassing. Not just losses, but disgraces. That is the source of SEC bias IMO. I guess a flubbed punt is to blame....

Seriously - why?

It's as meaningless as Phil Steele predicting what the  weather will be next November 12th and people getting all worked up over it.

"PHIL STEELE SAYS MICHIGAN WILL HAVE UNSEASONABLY MILD NOVEMBER NEXT YEAR"

What?  How dare he predict that - who in the hell does he think he is?  Seriously - in the pantheon of meaningless prediction this one ranks right up there with Lunardi's bracketogy released before the season starts.

Interesting that with going on the road to Iowa, to MSU, and to OSU still has our SOS down into the 70's. And we have to play Wisconsin, which is certainly no pushover.

I knew UCF and Hawaii wouldn't turn a lot of heads in that department, but I didn't think they'd drag the SOS down that far.

those are PREDICTED SOS based upom this years records and are MEANINGLESS..Michigan has annually for decades played a better non con schedule that most of Div 1 schools and when its all said and done our overall SOS will be top 20 more than likely...Im already hearing SEC fans and Paul Finnebaum mocking our SOS as if the SEC for decades didnt schedule Marshmellow U...for years they have scheduled creampuffs out of league then they have to win 4 conference game to qualify for a bowl and because they all do it they go around and say Look at us we have 11 teams in bowls (most in home or nearby states) so therefore we are the best league...its all BS and self promotion..

Until I see a competent left tackle, a QB that can get it done, and a consistent line backing core, I can't put us in the top 10. I absolutely think we have the pieces to be top ten this year. I just worry about spring game tape of Grant Newsome getting beat like a drum by all defenders. A weak blindside with a new QB = trouble. I trust our coaching staff 100% and believe they will have our offensive line set by the end of camp.

Develops throughout the season the way I'm sure it will, Phil and others will have to put Michigan in the Top 4, and that's all that really matters. I'm not the type to get my hopes up too often typically, but this year I just have that feeling. Almost seems destined when I think of Peppers as the new Woodson (to a degree lol).

Bottom line, we will be stronger up front this season, and in thinking about the games we lost last season, that's exactly what we need.
